JUVENTUS 7-0 OLYMPIAKOS

Stung by talks of a mini crisis following three successive defeats the Champions of Italy gave the Greeks a frightful beating. Trezeguet tapped in Maresca's center and Miccoli blasted in a second minutes later. All three players combined for Juve's third, Miccoli turned Maresca's through pass onto Trezeguet and he shot inside the post. Eleftheropoulos punched out Miccoli's cross and Maresca met the ball with a spectacular mid air volley, in off Kostoulas. Trezeguet managed to miss an open goal after a Miccoli effort bounced off the inside of both posts. There was no chance of a hat-trick as he was substituted for Di Vaio shortly after. Di Vaio got in on the act when he smashed in Miccoli's pass, no chance of a hat-trick either (of assists) as he was substituted for Del Piero who blasted in 2 minutes after coming off the bench. Zalayeta put Juve 7-up from Maresca's corner.

Assists : Maresca, Miccoli (x2), Di Vaio, Maresca (ck)

SOCIEDAD 1-1 GALATASARAY

Berkant found Sukur unmarked in the box and he chipped the ball wide of Alberto. De Paula equalised from Xabi Alonso's free kick.

Assists : Berkant, Xabi Alonso (fk)

OLYMPIAKOS 2-2 SOCIEDAD

A fantastic pass by Alkiza split the Olympiakos defence, Katergiannakis raced off his line to the edge of the box but was caught out by Gabilondo's instant shot. Stoltidis equalised with a ferocious shot after Giovanni back heeled a free kick. Westerveld didn't learn the lesson from the first half and rushed out of his goal to intercept another Giovanni pass, Castillo flew past him then lobbed the ball into the bottom corner from a tight angle, great finish. Schurrer's sweetly struck volley ensured Real Sociedad's passage into the knockout stages.

Red Card : Kovacevic 68 (Real Sociedad)
Assists : Alkiza, Giovanni (fk), Giovanni , Aranzabal

OLYMPIAKOS 3-0 GALATASARAY

Mavrogenidis shot the Greeks into the lead with a brilliant half volley after the Gala defence failed to deal with Venetidis' cross. Castillo managed to miss an open goal after Giovanni gave him a present following a mistake by Frank de Boer. Now I always enjoy watching players who don't have the talent to match their arrogance humiliated and that's precisely what happened late in the half. Venetidis hoofed a ball upfield, the absolute shit Frank de Boer kicked fresh air when attempting to clear, Castillo ran onto the ball, rounded the 'keeper and this time he didn't miss. Ayhan was sent off for kicking Stoltidis. The French commentators erupted in laughter following a spectacular moment of pure comedy. Djordjevic and Mondragon squared up after play stopped for offside, they butted each other, nothing more than love taps, then, with the precision of synchronised swimmers, dived in opposite directions clutching their faces. Both players earned a yellow card for this, Djordjevic his second. They should have been up for comedy sketch of the year. More Frank de Boer brilliance followed in the 96th minute. Giovanni left him for dead with an outrageous dummy, he tried to chop him down but missed and the Brazilian raced forward then sent an exquisite lob over Mondragon.

Assists : Venetidis (x2), ?

JUVENTUS 4-2 SOCIEDAD

After Juve failed to scored from a Westerveld goalkick the first time the Dutch 'keeper decided to give them a helping hand when he sent another one straight to Camoranesi. Trezeguet took his pass, rounded Westerveld and tapped into an empty net. Nedved found Di Vaio with a pass wife left, Di Vaio cut inside a defender before drilling a low shot inside the post. His second goal owed more to bad goalkeeping then Zambrotta's cross.

Juve added a fourth on the break this time Trezeguet profited from more woeful defending. Tudor turned a centre into his own net and De Pedro gave Real Sociedad some respectability with a sensational left footed free kick.

Juve should have no problems sealing a place in the next round with victory in Spain. Sociedad's defence really is the absolute shits.

Assists : Camoranesi, Nedved, Zambrotta, Nedved, Nihat (won fk)

30 September 2003

GALATASARAY 1-2 SOCIEDAD

Nihat flew down the right wing, skinned Tamas then rolled a pass across the face of goal which was met by Kovacevic, 0-1. Sukur wasted several chances before equalising but Alonso restored Sociedad's leader with a brilliant header from a Karpin corner. Hasan Sas was sent off for grabbing Alkiza by the throat after being chopped down.

Assists : Nihat, Arif, Karpin (ck)

OLYMPIAKOS 1-2 JUVENTUS

Karembeu chipped a cross into the box, Stoltidis managed to out jump Legrottaglie to head past Buffon. Nedved drilled a free kick through one of the many gaps in the Olympiakos wall. He scored another from long range thanks to Katergiannakis' terrible positioning.

Assists : Karembeu, Tacchinardi (won fk), Trezeguet

17 September 2003

JUVENTUS 2-1 GALATASARAY

Del Piero gave last season's beaten finalists the first of what we assumed would be many goals with a fine shot on the turn. Trezeguet's spectacular volley was brilliantly saved by Cordoba. An uncharacteristic mistake by Buffon put Gala back into the match when he punched Sukur's header straight into his net. Trezeguet was denied a second time when Joao Batista cleared off the line. Gala were caught out by a quickly taken Del Piero free kick, Ferrara the unlikely match winner with an even more unlikely volley! Cordoba pulled off another wondrous save late on from Di Vaio.

Four wins out of four for Serie A.

Assists : Camoranesi, Cesar Prates (ck), Del Piero (fk)
