LAZIO 1-1 BESIKTAS

Pancu converted a penalty when the man who makes Sunday league players look like World Class athletes, Sergen, was found by Stam. Muzzi equalised with a fantastic overhead kick. I've been very disappointed with most overhead kicks I have seen over the past few seasons but this one had the distance and power to set it apart. Inzaghi's spectacular volley flashed wide, Corradi headed against the post and a brilliant save by Cordoba denied Albertini what would have been a brilliant late winner.

Assist : Sergen (won pen)

Whoever is lucky enough to get the runners-up from this group has an easy passage into the semi finals.

LAZIO 0-4 CHELSEA

Sereni punched Veron's free kick against Crespo, 0-1. Crespo should have added a second but paid the price for over elaborating when attempting to back heel Mutu's cross. The loathsome Mihajlovic, who should have been sent off twice for kicking then spitting at Mutu, was finally removed from the pitch after the ref gave him a second yellow for a blatant foul on Duff. Either side of goals scored after Sereni, the ex Ipswich 'keeper, gave up rebounds, Duff capped a great performance with a splendid individual effort. He received a pass from Veron (who was rubbish) skipped past two tackles then whipped the ball inside the post, I'm sure it took a deflection off Couto. Johnson stupidly got himself a second yellow for kicking the ball away late on. While he sits out the next game he should get himself to a barber, his haircut is the shits.

4 goals, 0 assists, that doesn't happen often. Five English players were on the pitch for Chelsea at the end of the match - Terry, Cole, Johnson, Bridge and the brilliant Frank Lampard.

Red Cards : Mihajlovic 52 (Lazio), Johnson 90 (Chelsea)

22 October 2003

CHELSEA 2-1 LAZIO

Stankovic headed Oddo's long ball across the face of goal and a Chelsea defence missing both Desailly and Terry failed to pick up Inzaghi and he headed past Cudicini. Lampard drew Chelsea level with a magnificent strike, curling the ball first time past Peruzzi following good work by the Duffer and Gudjohnsen. Mutu scored at the second attempt after Stam charged down his initial effort.

Assists : Stankovic, Gudjohnsen

SPARTA PRAGUE 2-1 BESKITAS

Sparta worked the ball down the left wing before Sionko passed Zelenka, with a brilliant first touch Zelenka took the ball away from Guiaro, then feigned to go right before running left, leaving Zago humiliated, and finished with a toe poke into the corner. What a bloody great goal. Pancu scored from the spot after Sergen threw himself over the 'keeper to win a penalty. Poborsky scored a dodgy winner late on. Labant crossed from the left, Kovac flicked on the ball to Poborsky, who was miles offside when he scored, and he knew it - he glanced at the linesman before running away to celebrate.

Assists : Sionko, Sergen (won pen), Kovac

1 October 2003

CHELSEA 0-2 BESIKTAS

After Crespo had missed a great chance Sergen stunning the billionaires when his shot deflected in off Terry. Desailly made a hash of a long ball, Cudicini raced off his line but missed the ball and Sergen volleyed in his second. Manzis got himself a second yellow for shooting after the linesman had whistled for offside. Veron headed wide from Lampard's cross and that was about as close as Chelsea got.

Red Card : Manzis (Besiktas)

LAZIO 2-2 SPARTA PRAGUE

Poborsky's long pass caught out a Lazio defence standing for offside and Sionko volleyed Sparta in front. Lazio wasted several chances to clear and a series of deflections left Poborsky with a tap-in. Inzaghi got Lazio back in the match at the start of the second half with a superbly taken volley then dived in the box to win the game tying penalty.

Assists : Poborsky, Corradi

16 September 2003

Minutes after Giuti had a goal bound shot brilliantly cleared Stam headed Lazio in front. Peruzzi brilliantly saved a free kick. Fiore lashed in a second after Partizan made a hash of a clearance.

Assist : Stankovic
