Santos opened the scoring through Edmundo, after they were awarded a free kick
over a dubious fault on the striker. After the break, Atlético pressed for the
equalizer, but Santos was dangerous on the counter-attacks. In the 67th minute,
Edmundo made a quick play through the middle and passed to Robert, who was
alone and made it 2x0. Eight minutes later, Cocito scored a consolation goal for
Atlético, on a long-range shot.

Ponte Preta played awfully in the first half of the match. On the 11th minute,
Portuguesa opened the scoring after a corner kick, that Emerson headed to goal.
But right after the break, the 'Macaca' found its game, and equalized on the 50th
minute, on a penalty kick. Nine minutes later, Hernani took advantage of a loose
rebound inside Portuguesa's box and scored for the home team. In injury time,
Washington scored one more goal for Ponte Preta.

Flamengo dominated this match. In spite of that, it took long for the first goal to
come. On the 57th minute, Denílson crossed from the right side and Adriano
scored with his head. In the 74th, the fate of the match was decided. Petkovic
fell inside Santos' box and the referee awarded Flamengo a dubious penalty.
Rincón argued and was sent off. Petkovic stepped up and scored. With six minutes
to go, the home team scored its third goal, after a good play by Denílson, who
dribbled a defender and passed to Fernando, who capitalized.

Bebeto had a quiet night on his first match for Vitória. The former National Team
striker saw his team lose to Grêmio thanks to a goal by Paulo Nunes, his first for
Grêmio.

After 134 days, Guarani finally broke its winless streak. The victim was Coritiba,
in a boring match. Few good chances were created until the 63rd minute, when
Luiz Carlos deflected the ball to his own net, giving Guarani the lead. In the last
minute, Marcinho, one of the few bright spots on the night, ensured victory for
the home team, taking advantage of a slip up of the Coritiba defense.

The first 87 minutes of this match were quite uneventful. When a goalless draw
seemed on the cards, there appeared Dill, who scored twice, coming back
to the lead of the Brazilian Championship top scorers' chart.

Corinthians finally ended its nine game winless streak thanks to a goal from
Muller, who was playing his first match for the 'Timão'. Scheidt (who came on
loan from Celtic) also made his debut, but he didn't played well and was sent off
after a harsh tackle. There were two other players making their debuts for
Corinthians: Rogério and Djair. The only goal of the match came on the 39th
minute. Kléber crossed from the left side, the defenders of Ponte Preta
mishandled the ball, which ended up on the path of Muller, who made no
mistake.

Palmeiras got its third away victory in the competition thanks to another bad
display by Fluminense. The only goal came on the 36th minute. Adriano received
the ball, attracted three defenders, and then passed to Arce, who crossed to
Basílio, that just tapped home. After the goal, the home team tried to press, but
they weren't able to create good chances.

Romário opened the scoring on the half-hour mark with a header, but just three
minutes later Paulo César tied the match for Juventude on a long range shot.
With fifteen minutes to go, Romário struck again, scoring his 12th goal in the
competition (only Dill, from Goiás, has scored more).

São Paulo FC was suffocated on the first hour of the match, but goalkeeper
Rogério managed to keep his goal intact. Gama defender Gerson was sent off
and that changed the game. In the 64th minute, São Paulo opened the scoring
through Beto, who took advantage of a rebound. On the ensuing play, the home
team tied the match with a header by Romualdo. But at that point São Paulo
was playing better and they regained the lead thanks to a header by Marcelo
Ramos. With ten minutes to go, Sandro Hiroshi scored the ensurance goal for
the 'Tricolor'.
