SANTOS 3 : Edmundo 6, 38, Dodô 25
Corinthians celebrated its 90th birthday in the worst possible mood after this
embarrassing defeat on the hands of Santos. Fans burned flags of the team and
called for the sacking of Carlos Nujud, football director of the club.
Santos dominated the match and took them only six minutes to open the scoring,
through Edmundo, who took advantage of two consecutive mistakes by the
Corinthians defence. After missing a handful of chances, Santos made it 2x0
through Dodô. In the 38th, Edmundo scored his second, taking advantage of a
blatant mistake by João Carlos. With a three-goal lead, Santos just let the time
pass in the second half, securing a deserved victory.
VITÓRIA 3 : Alan Delon 24, 72, Vítor 35
INTERNACIONAL 0
Scoring sensation Alan Delon struck twice to ensure a comfortable victory for
Vitória. The top scorer of the Brazilian Championship scored his first goal in the
25th minute. Just ten minutes later, Vítor made it 2x0. From this point on, the
match lost interest, as it was clear that Internacional wouldn't be able to claw
back to the match. Midway through the second half, Alan Delon scored again,
this time from the penalty spot.

ATLÉTICO PARANAENSE 2 : Lobatón 34, Kléber 71
Atlético Paranaense continued with its good run in the Brazilian Championship
with this quite comfortable victory over poor Botafogo Carioca. Even being away
from home, Atlético dominated the proceedings and it was just natural when
Lobatón opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Midway through the second half,
Kléber added some insurance in a game that the home team never seemed able
to get into.

PALMEIRAS 0
SÃO PAULO FC 3 : Rogério Pinheiro 13, Marcelo Ramos 19, Gustavo Nery 81
Less than one thousand people attended to this traditional derby of the city of
São Paulo. The match was poor, in spite of the three goals. São Paulo FC played
slightly better, and deserved to win. The Tricolor opened the scoring on the 13th
minute, after a free kick taken by Souza and the Palmeiras defence failed to
clear. The ball ended up with Rogério Pinheiro, who scored. After taking the
lead, São Paulo FC went back to defence, but Palmeiras created just a couple of
threatening plays.
In the second half, the Tricolor scored twice, both goals coming in counter-attacks.
First with Marcelo Ramos completing a cross by Beto and then with Gustavo Nery
making a nice move to go past goalkeeper Sérgio.
ATLÉTICO MINEIRO 1 : Valdir 12
FLAMENGO 2 : Petkovic 55, Edílson 75
Flamengo was the best team right from the start, but Atlético managed to open
the scoring against the run of play. In a counter attack, Guilherme found Valdir
all alone in front of the goal, and the attacker scored. After allowing the goal, the
team from Rio de Janeiro lost focus, and couldn't create any scoring chances in
the first half.
After the break, Flamengo wentto the attack. In the 10th minute, they hit
Atlético's post, and in the ensuing play Petkovic was brought down inside the
box. The Serbian player converted from the spot. With fifteen minutes to go,
Petkovic shot from long range, and goalkeeper Cléber wasn't able to hold on to
the ball, that fell on the path of Edílson, who tucked it in.
SANTOS 1 : Edmundo 74
CRUZEIRO 1 : Jackson 44
Edmundo was again the highlight of Santos. The striker created many
opportunities in the first half, but he was guilty of some poor finishing. The home
team dominated the half, but they weren't able to score. In the 44th, Cruzeiro
opened the scoring against the run of play, with Jackson hitting the bottom left
corner of Carlos Germano's goal from long range. Cruzeiro came to the second
half with a defensive formation. It worked quite well until the 74th minute,
when Caio, Dodô and Edmundo made a nice passing play, with the latter scoring
the game-tying goal.
FLUMINENSE 1 : Alessandro 75
BOTAFOGO CARIOCA 0
Fluminense shocked the country with this victory. Why? Because the team, that
should be playing in the second division, has just taken the lead of the
competition! This is due to three main reasons : they played many matches
(9, more than most of the teams), they faced weak opposition (just one decent
opponent so far) and the very, very, low level of this year's tournament. The
match against Botafogo (another team that was supposed to be at the second
division) used to be a derby in de past, but now it's depressing. Few good plays
were created and the only goal came in the 75th minute, when defender
Váldson was caught napping, leaving Alessandro all alone to score.
VITÓRIA 4 : Pedro Paulo 71, Alan Delon 84, Moisés 85, Vítor 89
SPORT 3 : Lima 10, Taílson 58, Ricardinho 87
Sport was the last undefeated team of the Brazilian championship, but their
unbeaten streak was brought to an end by Vitória, in a pulsating match. Sport
opened the scoring with a free kick by Lima, which deflected on a defender and
fooled the keeper. This was the only goal of the first half. All the emotion came
after the break. In the 58th, Taílson made it 2x0 for Sport. In a fourteen minute
span (between the 69th and 85th minute), Vitória scored three times, through
Pedro Paulo, Alan Delon and Moisés, and took the lead. But in the 87th Sport
tied the game, with Ricardinho. In the last minute of regulation, Vítor scored
for Vitória, giving the home team an unexpected victory.
Attendance : 10,267
GRÊMIO 2 : Anderson 3, Amato 11
PONTE PRETA 2 : Marco Aurélio 4, Adrianinho 62
Interesting match, where Ponte Preta came twice from behind to snatch a point
at the Olímpico Stadium. The match started in high pace, with Anderson
opening the scoring with a header in the 3rd minute. In the next play, Ponte
Preta tied the match with Marco Aurélio. In the 11th, Grêmio regained the
lead through Gabriel Amato (former Rangers player). Both teams missed some
great chances, until the 62nd minute, when Washington was brought down
inside Grêmio's box and Adrianinho converted from the spot. Each team still
had a chance to win the match, but it ended up in a deserved draw.
AMÉRICA MINEIRO 1 : Celso 32
GUARANI 0
América Mineiro won its first match on the competition, and the victim was a
sorry Guarani side, that loves to lose against weak opponents. The first exciting
play came on the 28th minute, when Marcus Vinícius took a free kick for Guarani
and Renato deflected it in with his hand. The referee correctly dismissed the
goal. Four minutes later came the only goal of the match. Celso took a free kick
for Juventude with perfection, giving no chance to goalkeeper Gléguer. The
remainder of the match was too boring to tell. The only scoring chances came
on free kicks.
