BAHIA 2 : Marcos Chaves 30, Jean 84
CORINTHIANS 1 : João Carlos 33
Marcelinho was the biggest cause of this defeat by Corinthians. In the 29th
minute he was sent off for his second bookable offence and from that point
on Bahia dominated the match. It didn't take long for the home team to open
the scoring, with Marcos Chaves heading home a cross from the right side. In
the 33rd minute, Corinthians tied the match, thanks to a header by João
Carlos. The visitors tried to hold on to the tie but with six minutes to go
Jean scored the game-winning goal for Bahia, taking advantage of a bad
mistake of the Corinthians defence.
Red Card : Marcelinho (Corinthians)
VASCO 2 : Romário 3, Juninho Paulista 52
VITÓRIA 2 : Sinval 57, Felipe 91
Vasco threw away a two-goal lead in a match that they should have won. In
the third minute, Romário opened the scoring, volleying home a cross by
Juninho Pernambucano. After the break, the other Juninho made it 2x0. The
keeper deflected Euller's shot and Juninho tucked the rebound in. It didn't
take long for the home team to halve their deficit, through Sinval. But the
game-tying goal came only in injury time, when Felipe capitalised on the
lack of attention of Vasco's defence.
SÃO PAULO FC 3 : França 8, Carlos Miguel 77, Fábio Simplício 91
CORITIBA 2 : Da Silva 32, Marquinhos 54
Table-toppers São Paulo FC had to work hard to get this win over bottom
placed Coritiba. The home team started better, and França opened the
scoring in the 8th minute. But then São Paulo laid back and let Coritiba
take control of the match. In the 32nd, Alexandre made a nice play and
passed to Da Silva, who entered the box and scored. A few moments later,
Belletti made a rough foul, Alexandre tried to intimidate him, both players
argued and were both sent off. Eight minutes after the break, Beto (from São
Paulo FC) was also sent off, and in the next play Marquinhos put Coritiba
ahead. Carlos Miguel tied the match for the home team against the run of
play. The 'Tricolor' was awarded a free kick near the corner of the box.
When everybody expected a cross, Carlos Miguel shot directly to the goal,
and scored. The game winner came on injury time. Defender Leonardo made
a mistake and the ball ended up with Sandro Hiroshi, who passed to Fábio
Simplício to score.
Red Cards : Belletti (São Paulo FC), Beto (São Paulo FC), Alexandre (Coritiba),

SANTOS 1 : Robert 91
VASCO 1 : Juninho Paulista 42
The much anticipated clash between public enemies Romário and Edmundo
ended up in disappointment, since both had off nights. In one of the few
bright moments of the first half, Vasco opened the scoring. Paulo Miranda
made a nice play at the left side and crossed to Euller, who backheeled the
ball to Juninho, who scored. Nine minutes after the break, Santos had a great
chance to tie the match, after they were awarded a penalty. Edmundo took it,
but goalkeeper Fábio saved his shot. The referee ordered the penalty to be
retaken, Edmundo took it again and he again missed, this time hitting the
post. The match seemed decided, but in injury time goalkeeper Fábio wasn't
able to hold on to a shot by Edmundo and Robert scored on the rebound.
PALMEIRAS 3 : Tuta 1, Galeano 30, Lopes 68
ATLÉTICO MINEIRO 2 : Marques 15, Guilherme 88
This was a good match. In the first play of the match, Juninho went down the
left side and crossed to Tuta, who headed home. In the 15th minute, Caíco
crossed to Marques, who, all alone in the box, had no problems to score.
Both teams missed a couple of chances before Galeano put Palmeiras back
ahead on the half-hour mark. Both sides wasted many chances on the second
half. On the 68th minute, Juninho made a harmless cross from the left side,
but no defender was able to clear and the ball ended up with Lopes, who just
deflected it into the empty net. With two minutes to go, Guilherme scored
Atlético's second goal, on a perfect free kick, but it was too late for a
comeback.
FLAMENGO 1 : Denílson 16
SPORT 2 : Taílson 45, 63
Star-studded Flamengo were once again embarrassed at home. In the first
quarter of hour, it looked like the match would be easy for Flamengo. They
scored one goal through Denílson, and wasted several other chances. But
after the goal the home team laid back, and the match became boring. In
the last minute of the first half, Taílson tied the game. He received the ball
on the edge of the box, turned around and shot on the left corner of the
goal, with no chance for the Flamengo keeper. Sport dominated the second
half, and Taílson put them ahead from the penalty spot. After that, the 'Fla
' players became tense and committed many violent fouls. In less than three
minutes, they had two players (Denílson and Athírson) dismissed for violent
fouls, what destroyed any hopes of a comeback.
Red Cards : Denílson (Flamengo), Athírson (Flamengo), Ricardinho (Sport)

INTERNACIONAL 3 : Elivélton 33, Leonardo 84, 85
BAHIA 2 : Marcos Chaves 49, Fábio Costa 77
Internacional finally got its first home win of the season. Inter had many
scoring chances before opening the scoring on the 33rd minute. Elivélton
took a free kick, which was saved by goalkeeper Émerson. But the rebound
fell to the striker, who poked it in. Four minutes after the break, Marcos
Chaves tied the match. In a free kick, Fábio Costa put Bahia ahead on the
77th minute. But Leonardo scored twice on the final six minutes to give
Internacional the victory.

15 OCTOBER 2000
BOTAFOGO CARIOCA 1 : Rodrigo 67
SÃO PAULO FC 0
The rain-soaked pitch contributed to make a boring match. Most of the (few)
chances were created by Botafogo, but they were constantly denied by good
saves by Rogério. But on the 67th minute, a seemingly harmless shot by
Rodrigo found its way into the net, in a shot that the São Paulo FC keeper
should have stopped.
GUARANI 3 : Otacílio 3, Fumagalli 12, Marcus Vinícius 45
CORINTHIANS 2 : Ricardinho 42, Luizão 52
This was Candinho's first match in charge of Corinthians. And the former
assistant coach of the Brazilian National team will have his hands full to
correct the many mistakes displayed by the 'Timão'. Guarani practically
ensured victory on the first fifteen minutes of play, when they scored
twice, through Otacílio and Fumagalli. Ricardinho headed Corinthians back
into the match in the 42nd minute, but Marcus Vinícius restored Guarani's
two-goal lead in the first half injury time. After the break, Corinthians
improved a little, and Luizão halved their deficit in the 52nd minute, but
that was all.
GRÊMIO 2 : Paulo Nunes 13, Ronaldinho Gaúcho 66
PORTUGUESA 2 : Irênio 11, Lúcio 87
Portuguesa opened the scoring on their first shot on goal. Irênio took a
free kick and goalkeeper Danrlei failed to stop the weak shot. Two minutes
later, Portuguesa's defender Vinícius tried to clear a cross, and shot it on
Paulo Nunes. The ball hit the Grêmio striker and ended up on the back of the
net. Grêmio wasted some good scoring chances before taking the lead on the
66th minute. Fábio Baiano received the ball seemingly in an offside position.
He entered the box and blatantly dived. The referee awarded him a penalty,
which was converted by Ronaldinho Gaúcho. The home fans were already
celebrating victory when Lúcio scored a surprising goal for Portuguesa, with
less than three minutes to go.
