26 July 2006 The FIGC (Italian FA) have declared Inter champions for the 2005-2006 season after Juventus' last two titles were revoked and second placed Milan were deducted 30 points from last season's tally – leaving Inter in first place on 76 points. No champion will be declared for the 2004-2005 season. Inter's 14th scudetto is their first since 1989. President Massimo Moratti said : "I am fully satisfied by the awarding of the title to a club and team that behaved correctly." Coach Roberto Mancini added : "I'm happy. Regardless of how it arrived. It is right to reward those who have given their best and have always been honest. It is strange to win like this but we played fair." Sandro Mazzola, the clubs greatest ever player, said : "This title can't be compared to the ones that I
won, they were different wins in different seasons. Those were other times
but now what has happened has happened and there is a league table with Inter
in top spot and so it was normal that the award went to Inter but the fans
should be doubly happy - for the title but also because Inter didn't get
themselves involved in certain situations (the
scandal)." 34 year old Brian McBride has announced his retirement from International football : "This is a special day in that I have the opportunity to thank US Soccer for all they have done for me and my family. The consistent and determined efforts of the coaches, staff and players at US Soccer have helped bless me with the honour of being a part of three World Cups and playing the game I love over many years since first being called up in 1993. I will truly miss being part of the team. Additionally, I want to thank the fans of US Soccer for their enthusiasm and support. Without the encouragement and warm words from many fans, I would not be where I am today." McBride scored 30 goals in 95 international
appearances.
