Diouf Fined for Spitting Incident

Bolton forward El-Hadji Diouf was fined £500 (€735) pounds and ordered to pay
£500 in costs after pleading guilty to a charge of reckless behaviour for spitting
drink at an 11 year old Middlesbrough fan, James Shields, last November during a
league match between Middlesbrough and Bolton last November. It's the second
time Diouf has been charged with spitting and he is in court again next week for
driving under the influence.

The boy's mother, Barbara Shields, said :

"I think he should say sorry. £1,000 pounds is nothing to him, the money he is on
a week. I just think he is an arrogant man."

Diouf's solicitor, Alan Walsh, offer an 'apology' on the player's behalf.

Argentinean's Refused to Swap Shirts

"I didn't swap shirts at the end. They didn't seem too willing to do it for some reason.
If there's any needle between the two sides it's not from us. This win did mean a lot,
though. You could see the way we celebrated the goals and the way the bench got
excited. It's always special to beat Argentina but the main reason was that we've
taken a bit of criticism this season and sometimes rightly so." - Frank Lampard

Ricken Out for Six Months

Dortmund midfielder Lars Ricken has become the third player at the club to suffer a
cruciate ligament injury and isn't expected to play again this season. Czech
international striker Jan Koller and Dutch forward Cedric van der Gun are the two
other long term casualties.

Vieira Felt Rejected by Arsenal

"Arsenal did nothing to keep me. The bottom line is they could have kept me. I saw
myself finishing my career at Arsenal. I thought I would be at the club for another
three years. I don't know if they needed the money for players or the new stadium,
but it was their decision to sell me. One moment I was on the phone to Arsene
Wenger discussing our expectations for the season. The next I was told by David
Dein (the vice president) there was an offer from Juventus and the club was neutral
about my decision to accept it or not. Neutral? What was that was about? There had
been offers before, particularly from Real Madrid and every year it had been made
plain Arsenal wanted me to stay. Had they talked to me the way they did the
previous summer there is no doubt I would still be at the club but they didn't."
Patrick Vieira
