FIFA Take 1 billion in TV Rights from 2010 World Cup
FIFA have sold the rights to the 2010 World Cup with five broadcasters in Europe's
biggest markets for a total of 1 billion. The tournament will continue to be shown
on free television after FIFA agreed deals with the BBC and ITV (England),
ARD/ZDF (Germany), TF1 (France), TVE (Spain) and Rai (Italy). Pay television
channels Premiere (Germany) and Sky (Italy) will split the coverage in their
respective countries. FIFA cliam the deal is worth double the amount paid for the
rights to next summer's World Cup in Germany.
Eto'o Signs New Contract
Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o has signed a new five year contract and doubled his
wages from 2.3 million a season to 4.6 million a season. Barca have also included
the La Liga trademark ridiculous buy out clause in this case 150 million.
Kaladze Stays on At Milan
Kakha Kaladze has signed a five year contract with Milan after his proposed move to
Chelsea fell through.
Zola Retires
Gianfranco Zola has called time on a 21 year career just days before his 39th
birthday :
"I think this is the right thing to do. Some time has passed since the end of the
championship but I needed to reflect a bit. Now that my career is finished I can say
that I am happy with what I have achieved. Not everyone can say that they set
themselves an objective and reached it - I did that and it is very satisfying.
Aussie Coach Quits
Frank Farina has resigned as coach of Australia, blaming speculation over his future :
"Ever increasing speculation on my position is not something that I want to see affect
the performance of the team and the potential for that happening has led to this
announcement. We have the players and the backing to get us to the World Cup and
no single element of our approach should be allowed to undermine that."

van Persie Released
Arsenal forward Robin van Persie has been released from custody but is still under
investigation over an alleged rape which took place on June the 13th.
Terim Back as Turkey Boss
Fatih Terim has been re-appointed coach of Turkey following the dismissal of Ersun
Yanal. Terim was coach of Turkey between 1993-1996 before coaching spells with
Galatasaray, Fiorentina and Milan.
The Beast Fishes for Move to England
"I would love to play for a team such as Manchester United or Arsenal. I have made
up my mind that I want to go to England. 'It wouldn't just be a financial decision.
The league there is the best in the world and my style of play would suit it. I don't

Mexicans Sent Home After Failing Drugs Tests
Mexican players Aaron Galindo and Salvador Carmona were sent home from the
Confederations Cup on Tuesday amid rumours that their urine samples showed
traces of the banned steroid nandrolone. FIFA have confirmed that despite the
duos ejection Mexico's results will stand.
