Mourinho Pays Compliment to Ferguson
"I can't possibly win as much as he (Alex Ferguson) has done because I
won't stay
in England that long and because what he has done is not possible any
more in
modern football. It is a record only possible in England because it is
the only country
where a manager can stay for such a long period. For him to stay there
19 years
is incredible because at a club like Manchester United you can't go
three or four
seasons without winning trophies but every season for him has been
silverware,
silverware, silverware. I can't do that, but bringing the championship
back to
Chelsea after 50 years means that, in 30 years' time, if you ask a boy
who is
10 now he will know Jose Mourinho." - Jose Mourinho

"With regard to what has been published by the English media today,
Milan
categorically deny that we are in negotiations with Chelsea for
Shevchenko. In
an effort to put an end to the speculation, Milan would again like to
underline that
the player is untransferable."

Mexico Fined 480,000
Mexico have been fined 480,000 after two of their players (Aaron
Galindo and
Salvador Carmona) were sent home from June's Confederations
Cup tournament
after testing positive for nandrolone. The Mexican Football
Federation carried out
the tests before the start of the tournament and expelled
the players after they had
played in their team's victories over Japan and Brazil.
Chelsea Deny Shevchenko Interest
"It is our policy not to comment on speculation linking Chelsea to
players but there
are continuing, and totally incorrect, reports regarding Shevchenko
that only serve
to destabilise those players already at Chelsea. We are not seeking to
sign a
forward and we have total confidence in those we have."
Robinho 'Transfer' Blocked
The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) have refused to sanction
Robinho's 'transfer'
from Santos to Real Madrid. Real offered to pay 25 million, 60% of
the player's buy
out clause, while Robinho agreed to waive his rights to the other 40%
but CBF
general secretary Marco Teixeira (the brother of Santos President
Marco Teixeira?)
said :
"We are informing you that it is impossible for us to send the
International Transfer
Certificate for the player. Santos will not accept the transfer
without full payment
of the buy-out clause in the contract, which is legally binding and
fixed at 41 million."
Ljungberg Extends Contract
Freddie Ljungberg has extended his contract with Arsenal until 2009,
when he will
be 32.
