Eriksson Blamed For Fixture Congestion

Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson have blamed England coach Sven-Goran
Eriksson's request for a four week break at the end of the season for the Christmas
fixture congestion :

"It is particularly difficult this Christmas because we have to squeeze in an extra
game. After negotiations with the Football Association, we agreed a four-week
break at the end of the season for England's World Cup preparations. If someone
shows how it is logistically possible to fit in a break in the middle of the season
then we will certainly look at that."

What Johnson failed to mention is that last season four rounds of fixtures were
played over a 9 day period, instead of a 8 day period this season. Not surprisingly
the Premier League didn't suggest a reduction in the number of clubs would help
ease fixture congestion nor did they explain how they found so much time in the
calendar to squeeze in all but two rounds of the pointless League Cup.

Liverpool fans are amazing, the club is amazing. We have a good team, a good
manager and everything is okay. I don't know why I'm going to leave. I'm really
fed up with all this speculation on me. I'm going to move to Marseille, it's always

Newcastle's Steven Taylor faces a three month spell on the sidelines after re-injuring
his shoulder on his comeback during the club's boxing day defeat at Liverpool :

"I'm devastated to be honest. I was conscious of the injury right from the start.
I think that was natural because there was a fear that the shoulder could pop out
again but I had to test it out at some point. It could have gone three or four games
down the line, it could have lasted until the end of the season. It was one of those
situations where I didn't know what was going to happen and, unfortunately, it went
Liverpool in the first game back. I will have to have it operated on as soon as possible
now and get back as quickly as I can. I knew as soon as I made the challenge in the
air that it had gone again. I felt it go when I jumped up and when I landed it was
really painful. I tried to pop it back in but it was already strapped up as a precaution
and it wouldn't go back in."

Larsson Wants to Go Home

"We feel that it is time for us to move home. There have been many questions about
my contract and I think it is good to avoid all this speculation in the future. Me and
my wife have spoken about this for a while now and it's a decision that has grown on
me over the course of the season. If I had played more things might have been
different, but the fact that I'm not playing regularly is not the main reason why I'm
going back to Sweden. The time is right. It's as simple as that." - Henrik Larsson

Di Stefano Needs By-Pass

Head of cardiac surgery Anastasio Montero issued the following statement :

"He has a circulation problem and there are some arteries feeding the heart that have
been seriously narrowed. We need to carry out a bypass to overcome this problem
but we will have to wait for his condition to improve before we can operate. He has
had a heart attack and if we operate now it will be in unfavourable circumstances.
His heart is beating with difficulty. A person needs sufficient arterial pressure or else
they will die and because of the heart attack his heart does not have enough
strength. We have inserted a system that will help the heart and the rest of his body
function for the time being."

Di Stefano is a smoker and also suffers from diabetes.
