Former Spanish national team Coach Jose Antonio Camacho has been named
new coach of Benfica.

Big Phil Takes Over as Portugal Coach

Luiz Felipe Scolari, who lead Brazil to their record fifth World Cup victory, will
coach Portugal through the Euro 2004 European Championships. Big Phil was
eager to add the European Championship to an already impressive list of
major honours :

"After winning the Gulf Cup (Kuwait), the Libertadores Cup (Palmeiras and

Gremio) and the World  Cup I think that maybe the European Nations Cup is
the one that's missing. This is one of the things which made me interested in
the offer."


Ajax Hit With Tax Demand

The Dutch tax service have hit Ajax with a tax for £3.5 million in relation to the
signings of former players Shota Arveladze and Michael Laudrup. The tax
inspectors visited the club in May to investigate allegations of irregular
payments to Arveladze (signed from Trabzonspor in 1997) and Michael
Laudrup (signed from Real Madrid).

This Week's Punch-up At Bayern

Samuel Kuffour has become the latest Bayern Munich player to be involved in
a training ground fight. Kuffour is facing a fine after fighting with Jens
Jeremies. Earlier in the month Lizarazu started a fight with team-mate Niko
Kovac.

Statue Unveiled In Honour Of Valderrama

A seven metre tall bronze statute of Colombian legend Carlos Valderrama has
been unveiled in his home town of Santa Marta. Valderrama played 110 times
for Colombia.

Senegal Name New Coach

The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) have announced Guy Stephan as the
new coach of their national team in succession to Bruno Metsu. Stephan was
a member of France's national coaching staff. Metsu, hugely popular among
Senegal's players, signed a 10 month contract with UAE side Al Ain and had
hoped to return to coach Senegal at the end of his contract.

Kaha Asatiani Shot Dead

Former USSR international Kaha Asatiani was shot dead by gunmen in his car.
The 55 year old was capped 16 times.

Henry - Ronaldo Not Worthy of Ballon d'Or

Arsenal striker Thierry Henry claims Ronaldo should not be considered for the
prestigious Ballon d'Or (European Footballer of the Year) award :

"My three contenders would be Zizou (Zidane) whose goal in the Champions

League final will be remembered for a long time yet. Michael Ballack, who
missed out in the World Cup final with Germany and in the Champions
League final with former club Bayer Leverkusen and Roberto Carlos.
The Ballon d'Or rewards performances over the whole year and not just over
one competition. Over the year, I wouldn't put Ronaldo in with my favourites."

Reyna Out For Six Months

Sunderland midfielder Claudio Reyna will be out of action for upto six months
following reconstructive knee surgery.

Kahn, Ronaldo and Zidane Short listed For FIFA Award

FIFA have announced that Oliver Kahn, Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane are
finalists for the World Player of the Year award.
