Bielsa Rewarded For Failure

In a move of incredible stupidity Martin Bielsa has been given a contract
until 2006 as coach of Argentina despite their first round exit at the
World Cup.

No Senegal Return For Metsu

The Senegalese Football Federation have confirmed that Bruno Metsu will not
be allowed to return as coach at the end of his 10 month contract with UAE
side Al-Ain. Metsu guided Senegal to the World Cup Quarter-Finals back
in June.

Bayern Donate Gate Receipts To Flood Victims

Bayern Munich will donate the gate receipts from Wednesday's Champions
League tie against Partizan Belgrade to victims of recent floods in Germany.
Bayern expect to raise at least €200,000 despite a comfortable first leg lead.

Hargreaves In No Hurry For Premiership

Bayern Munich's English midfielder Owen Hargreaves made the following
comments in an interview with respected German sports magazine Sportbild :

"I've talked to many (English) players. They tell me nice things about their
clubs. Many players have contacted me on this issue, saying I should play
in England so that the English fans and the coaches could watch me play.
That would be the only way to keep a starting spot on the national team
but why should I swap sides? Bayern Munich are the best club in the World.
Much better than every good club in England."

Trezeguet Back Next Year?

Juventus striker David Trezeguet could be out of action for five months due
to complications with a right knee injury. Trezeguet was injured during a
three way friendly tournament with Milan and Inter.

Ronaldo Saga Over

Real Madrid have ended negotiations with Inter over the transfer of Ronaldo
after failing to come to terms. A statement on Real's website read :

"Real Madrid states that insurmountable differences exist between the club

and Inter Milan concerning the transfer of Ronaldo. It has been seemingly
impossible to arrive at a satisfactory agreement during the friendly and frank
negotiations this morning which has forced both clubs to bring the talks to an
end."

Real were only willing to offer €12 million and two players from a selection

which included Fernando Morientes, Flavio Conceicao and Santiago Solari.
Inter were willing to accept €20 million and 2 players having originally asked
for €100 million.

Eriberto Exposed As A Fraud

In an interview with the daily Corriere dello Sport Eriberto admitted that he
was four years older than originally claimed and had been playing under the
false name of Eriberto. Luciano Siqueira took up the name Eriberto and
falsified his age starting in 1996 :

"I was an orphan and I needed (to do it). I dreamt of becoming a

professional footballer and so I accepted it even if by that time I was older.
My wife was fundamental in this, she convinced me. Also I wanted to make
this move as a show of responsibility in front of my son Felipe, who is two
years old. I want that he will also take my name Siqueira."

Eriberto is currently in Brazil where he confessed to the fraud at a tribunal.

Manninger Released

Austrian goalkeeper Alex Manninger has been released from his contract
with
Espanyol six weeks after joining from Arsenal.

Terry Cleared of Assault

Chelsea defender John Terry was cleared of charges following a brawl at a
London nightclub. Terry was cleared on charges of wounding with intent to
cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding, possessing a bottle as an
offensive weapon and affray. Chelsea team-mate Jody Morris also was cleared
of affray but Wimbledon defender Des Byrne, who was also involved, was
found guilty of possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon but was cleared
of affray.

Serie A Suspended

Serie A has been suspended until the 15th of September 2002 following
disputes over television contracts. Atalanta, Brescia, Chievo, Como, Empoli,
Modena, Perugia and Piacenza have failed to agree contracts with Italian
pay television channels Telepiu and Stream. The clubs are demanding
€10 million for rights to their home games while Telepiu and Stream are
only offering €4.5 million.

The FIGC (Italian FA) have also failed to reach agreement with state

broadcaster RAI over free to air highlights. 

Beckham Autobiography

David Beckham has signed a deal worth two million pounds ($3.05 million)
to produce an autobiography which will be written by a ghost writer.

Bode Retires

33 year old former German international midfielder Marco Bode has
announced his retirement from football after failing to find a club having
left Werder Bremen at the end of the season. Bode scored 101 goals in
379 games for Bremen.

Shevchenko Out For Two Months

Andriy Shevchenko will be out of action for two months after undergoing
surgery on a damaged knee ligament.

Haaland To Take Legal Action

Defender Alf Inge Haaland and his club Manchester City have confirmed that
they would be taking legal action against Roy Keane over the tackle that may
have ended his career. In extracts from Roy Keane's controversial biography
the disgraced former captain of Ireland speaks of retribution for a previous
challenge by Haaland :

"I told him (Haaland) and don't ever stand over me again sneering about fake

injuries and tell your pal Wetherall there's some for him as well. I didn't wait
for Mr Elleray (the ref) to show the red card. I turned and walked to the
dressing room."

The Football Association are also considering legal action over comments

made by Keane in his book.
