KAISERSLAUTERN EQUAL THE BUNDESLIGA'S ALL-TIME STARTING RECORD!
7 games, 7 wins, only matched by the 1995-1996 FC Bayern (which
eventually finished 2nd). Other records: Bayern have only conceded
2 goals against in 7 matches (0.29 gag). Last but not least Bayer
Leverkusen have made their best start into the season since 15
years at 4-3-0.
23 SEPTEMBER 2001
MÖNCHENGLADBACH 2-2 ST. PAULI
Van Lent 51 (Pen) Bajramovic 60
Van Houdt 90 Meggle 90
Demo should have been sent off for an evil eye gauge on Meggle which
"Hollywood" Hogan would have been proud of, only saw yellow though!
Meggle clipped veteran Nielsen in the box, Van Lent dispatched BMG's
1st spot kick of the season. Bajramovic tapped in a rare Pauli goal
from Gibbs' centre. Events followed hot on each other's heels in
injury time: Van Houdt pounced onto Hausweiler's shot and poked the
certain game winner past Bulat from a suspiciously offside looking
position before Meggle deflected Rath's free kick into the net for
the unthinkable equalizer! Finale Grande!
Assists : Nielsen, Gibbs, Hausweiler, Rath
Attendance : 30,961
1860 MÜNCHEN 2-1 WOLFSBURG
Borimirov 5 Akonnor 67
Max 75
Cross Häßler, flick Schroth, Borimirov faster to the ball than Munteanu,
he heads the marble into the top-right corner. Akonnor tapped in Rau's
centre after a Wolfsburg assault on the 60 goal in the 2nd half. Max
came on as a sub and scored his first goal after 800 goalless minutes
with a smack across goal after great work and a final through pass from
Borimirov who once again was the best player on the pitch.
Akonnor was sent off for his 2nd bookable offence, a rough foul on
Zelic. Biliskov also received his marching orders, a clean red card
for an elbow check on Agostino, very harsh decision. Wolfsburg coach
Wolfgang Wolf is on the brink of getting fired.
Assists : Schroth, Rau, Borimirov
Red Cards : Akonnor 84 and Biliskov 90 (Wolfsburg)
Attendance : 18,000
22 SEPTEMBER 2001
KÖLN 1-2 NÜRNBERG
Baranek 24 Nikl 15
Sanneh 28
Nikl ran half the length of the pitch before cracking a rocket into
the left corner. Baranek made up for slack defending on Nikl's goal
when he ran onto Arveladze's throughball and turned Kos before
shooting past Kampa for the equalizer. Veteran midfielder Tony Sanneh
again gave the club the lead with a towering header from Jarolim's
free kick. Köln attacked in the 2nd half but they lacked some serious
concentration in front of goal so the club was able to bring their
first road win home.
Assists : Jarolim (x2), Arveladze
Attendance : 29,000
KAISERSLAUTERN 4-1 HERTHA
Klose 23 Marcelinho 80 (Pen)
Lokvenc 50
Preetz 82 (og)
Lincoln 83
Lokvenc scrambled the ball to Klose who continued his rising form by
rifling under Király. The huge Czech attack tank then made it 2-0 with
a toe-poke from Basler's corner. Lincoln won a penalty after dribbling
a knot into the legs of Marx but Basler did a "Baggio" i.e. hitting the
spot kick way over the crossbar. Preetz fell over Strasser's leg, pen
as well, Marcelinho did better than Mario, 1-2.
But it was "Der Lange" as well who broke Hertha's neck 2 minutes later
hitting Basler's corner into his own net. 22-year-old Brasilian prodigy
Lincoln put the icing on the cake with a classy finish to Lokvenc'
centre, the new Red Devils' playmaker has become easily one of the very
best offensive players in the league in only 7 weeks time.
Assists : Lokvenc (x2), Basler (x2), Preetz
Attendance : 36,927
FREIBURG 2-0 SCHALKE
Hajto 55 (og)
Tanko 68
Iashvili centred and Hajto catapulted himself to the top of the own goal
rankings among active players (it was his 4th) by whacking Reck through
his braces (it was the 15th time already that "Pannen-Olli" has been
beaten by one of his teammates -- another record!). Coulibaly played to
Tanko on the edge of the box, he tunnelled his former teammate Möller,
cruised inside the area and ripped a fierce shot into the roof from an
acute angle. World Class Goal, similar to Batigol's against Arsenal from
2 years ago!
Assists : Iashvili, Coulibaly
Attendance : 25,000 (sold out)
DORTMUND 1-1 LEVERKUSEN
Amoroso 7 Berbatov 79
Amoroso created a great opening for Koller but a horrible first touch
defused what should have been a certain goal. Amoroso then showed how
it's done properly when he sprinted onto Rosický's through pass (what
vision the kid has!), rounded Butt and squeezed the ball just inside
the post. It has already been the 3rd time the pair has successfully
linked up this season.
Sebescen gifted Dedê the ball and a free run at goal but the Brasilian
wingback didn't take the present i.e. Butt managed to save. Zé Roberto
intercepted Herrlich's hospital pass and sent Brdaric to the touchline,
the former A2-International pulled the ball back to fellow substitute
who was open to tap in without challenge.
Dortmund is good at smashing minors but not a big game winner team yet.
Assists : Rosický, Brdaric
Attendance : 64,500
HAMBURG 0-4 BREMEN
Aílton 13
Bode 34
Ernst 84
Stalteri 86
The HSV fired 5th year coach Frank Pagelsdorf during the week after
the teams' poor start, 2nd chairman Holger Hieronymus takes over as
interim coach. Aílton pounced onto Groth's hospital pass and took
5m off Hamburg's defense before firing under Pieckenhagen for the
0-1. Toni is the fastest player I have seen in the past couple of
years barring a pre-injury Ronaldo. Free kick on the edge of the box:
Lisztes rolled the ball up, Borowski stopped and Bode hammered through
a wall full of holes for his 1st goal of the season, 95th in a Werder
uniform (he needs 2 more to join green & white legends Frank Neubarth
and Rudi Völler as Werder's eternal top scorer!).
Ernst linked up with Bode on the wing and literally walked (he really
isn't the fastest player of 'em all) into the middle before ice-coolly
making it 0-3 thus breaking Hamburg's neck during their strongest period
in the game. Stalteri swapped passes with Bode who had one of his rare
better games before stumbling in the 0-4. It was Werder's 1st win in
Hamburg in almost 10 years, with that the club's season objective n°1
has already been accomplished! HSV fans chanted "Wir ha'm die Schnauze
voll!" (we're fed up!) after the game and president Hackmann called it
"a black day in the proud history of the club". :)
Assists : Borowski, Bode (x2)
Attendance : 43,014
STUTTGART 2-1 ROSTOCK
Balakov 55 (Pen) Jakobsson 11
Ganea 85
After 3 straight 0-0's at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion, the club
promised every fan with a ticket for the game a free beer on Monday
should the team make it 4 in a row...they wouldn't!
Rydlewicz rolled the ball up for Jakobsson and the Hansa defense boss
beat Hildebrand with a huge free kick from 25 meters. Benken tugged
Adhemar's shirt _and_ shorts (now he was making sure!) in the box, ref
didn't like it, awarded a penalty, Balakov converted for Stuttgart's
first home goal of the season!
Bordon was sent off for hacking Beierle after already been booked.
Lantz received his marching orders 4 minutes later for following up
on Meißner. Ganea bottled a major chance 10 minutes before the end
created by the once again raging Hleb, the VfB attacker made it 100%
better 5 minutes later when he scored the game-winner from Soldo's
through pass.
Assists : Rydlewicz, Adhemar, Soldo
Red Cards : Bordon 60 (Stuttgart), Lantz 64 (Rostock)
Attendance : 19,500
COTTBUS 0-3 BAYERN MÜNCHEN
Zickler 2
Pizarro 3
Piplica 74 (og)
Zickler paid back the trust Hitzfeld had in him to let him start by
heading his 50th Bundesliga goal from Tarnat's free kick ("Tanne" also
made his 1st Bundesliga game of the season after recovering from a
broken foot) already in the 2nd minute -- dream start for the visitors!
Pizarro headed in Brazzo's cross only 60 seconds later -- game already
decided after 3 minutes!
2 goals in the first 3 minutes is also a new Bundesliga record! Niko
Kovac struck the crossbar, already the 2nd time this week he hit wood
(he also did it against Sparta Prague during the week). Niko Kovac then
swung a cross into the box and Mátyus beat Santa Cruz to the ball to
make it 0-3, 'keeper Piplica also had more than a hand on it which is
why he gets credited for the (own) goal. That was it.
Assists : Tarnat, Salihamidzic
Attendance : 20,100
