8 SEPTEMBER 2001
MÖNCHENGLADBACH 0-1 LEVERKUSEN
Butt 3 (Pen)
Demo smashed a 1st minute volley against the woodwork to open this
game with a bang! Ballack took a dive in the box only 1 minute later after
been minimally pulled by Nielsen, Butt, now also the penalty-taker in
Leverkusen, coolly dispatched the spot kick (already the 20th of his
career!). 'Gladbach was the much better team throughout the game and
Bayer has to thank Butt who had to defuse at least a dozen (!) high%
chances for full 3 points.
Assist : Ballack
Attendance : 30,184
FREIBURG 1-1 ROSTOCK
Benken 56 (og) Di Salvo 81
Benken deflected Coulibaly's shot unstoppably into the net after a
daft passing move involving the whole Freiburg midfield. Zeyer volleyed
against the crossbar following a corner. Wibrån stole the ball off Zandi
who was just seconds into the game and Di Salvo combined with Baumgart
for the equalizer. Kobiashvili could have won the game for the host
but only struck the post.
Assists : Coulibaly, Baumgart
Attendance : 24,500
DORTMUND 0-2 BAYERN MÜNCHEN
Salihamidzic 22
Santa Cruz 58
Reuter deflected Sforza's centre to Brazzo who fired through Dedê's
braces and into the left pocket for the 1st Bundesliga goal against
Borussia in the 2001-2002 season. Salihamidzic played a major role
in the 0-2: He launched a stunning 50m pass to Jancker who had his
shot blocked by Wörns but Santa Cruz, who the Bayern bosses think
will have a breakout season, was on target from the edge of the box.
Fink and (later) Hargreaves had Rosický fairly and firmly under
control, Amoroso didn't see the light against Kuffour either.
Motivated Bayern are scary and should be very hard to beat once
again this season. Ottmar Hitzfeld remains undefeated against
his old club.
Attendance : 68,600 (sold out)
ST. PAULI 0-2 SCHALKE
Agali 35, 77
Böhme created an opening for Kmetsch on the wing, he floated a cross
into the box and tree-long Nigerian striker Agali, playing for the
injured Sand, headed in his 2nd of the season. Baris made an absolute
mess out of Hajto's longball, again Agali was there to punish it by
easily beating Bulat from close range.
Assist : Kmetsch
Attendance : 20,725 (sold out)
1860 MÜNCHEN 1-0 NÜRNBERG
Riseth 76
Riseth gave 60's fans something to cheer in an otherwise utterly
boring game when he fired Häßler's long cross under Kampa and into
the net.
Assist : Häßler
Attendance : 40,200
STUTTGART 0-0 HERTHA
The VfB had an already awarded 5th minute penalty taken back because
Todt was supposed to be offside when he was brought down by Rehmer.
Wenzel was sent off for calling the linesman a blind twat after he
awarded a throw-in to Hertha which should have went the other way!
Game sucked big time, poor people who had to stand/sit through this,
Stuttgart's 3rd straight 0-0 at home.
Red Card : Wenzel 52 (Stuttgart)
Attendance : 22,500
COTTBUS 3-3 WOLFSBURG
Kaluzny 2 Juskowiak 28
Da Silva 45, 47 Petkovic 39
Kennedy 77
Kaluzny headed in Miriuta's free kick after 70 seconds, the fastest goal
of the season so far! Fellow Pole Juskowiak headed Wolfsburg level from
Róbson Ponté's cross. Miriuta struck the post from another free kick.
Petkovic turned the game around after a nice solo over half the length
of the pitch capped off with a cool finish. Da Silva made it 2-2 with an
injury time header from Kobylanski's corner.
The Brasilian defender also struck 2 minutes after the break with one
more header, this time from Kaluzny's flick on Miriuta's free kick.
Reghecampf smashed a shot which should have put the game out of reach
against the post so Australian amateur Joshua Kennedy could make it 3-3
only 29 seconds after coming on as a sub courtesy of good passing from
Akonnor and Juskowiak.
Assists : Miriuta, Róbson Ponté, Karhan, Kobylanski, Kaluzny, Juskowiak
Attendance : 14,442
KÖLN 2-1 HAMBURG
Lottner 67, 90 Cullmann 21 (og)
Cullmann headed Ketelaer's free kick past his own 'keeper. Lottner came
on as a sub after achilles' tendon problems during the week and broke
the spell when Panadic fumbled Reeb's cross and he was left with an easy
tap-in. Köln's captain curled in a 90th minute free kick to give the
Domstädter the deserved 3 points and once again prove how irreplacable
he is for the team. Last season's co-top goalgetter Barbarez made his
comeback from injury in this game and how cruelly for all HSV fans had
to leave with hyperextended ligaments again...
Assists : Ketelaer, Baranek
Attendance : 35,000
KAISERSLAUTERN 2-1 BREMEN
Ramzy 64 Banovic 14
Klose 70
Werder surprisingly started without Eilts, Klasnic, Ernst and Herzog
who all found themselves on the bench. Frings won the ball off Lincoln
in defense and immediately started the offense with a long outlet pass
to Tjikuzu who advanced the ball to Borowski, the youngster finally
getting a start in front of the far-over-the-hill Eilts played an
excellently-timed through pass to playmaker-of-the-future Banovic
who swept the ball past Koch for the 0-1.
Bremen should have went further ahead but bottled plenty of promising
chances (Bode being the main culprit) and were duly punished when ex-
Werderaner Ramzy slotted in Lincoln's free kick. Ruthless pressing won
'Lautern the ball in midfield, Hengen released Klose who easily went
past the snail-paced Skripnik and Verlaat before rifling past Rost for
the game winner. FCK is the new league leader after another game they
played 45 good and 45 evil minutes in...
Assists : Borowski, Knavs, Hengen
Attendance : 36,763
