One more time I have to apologize for being a week too late, then
things should be back to normal... I would be lying if I claimed
it was because I'm busy with the three massive homeworks I have to
write during the vacations (!) or it was because I'm looking for a
job because I plan to move into my own place in a few months and
would like a table and a chair besides my bed as well...
No, in fact the real reason has been a phenomenon known to the
users of #rss as "Juliane.jpg", for those of you who are still
groping in the dark, your author has been infected with an
incurable human virus called "love" and since this week was
Valentine's Day et al, the woman demanded a little more time
than she already gets...
Oh well, here we go with my "other love", the Bundesliga!
10 FEBRUARY 2002
NÜRNBERG 2-1 1860 MÜNCHEN
Rink 35 Bierofka 48
Tavcar 65
Rink headed in Krzynowek's cross. Bierofka swapped passes with Häßler
before curling a low shot into the right-bottom corner. Slovenia
international Rajko Tavcar got the game-winner 5 minutes after the hour
mark with a heavily deflected shot after swapping passes with Brasilian
striker Cacãu.
Assists: Krzynowek, Häßler, Cacãu
Attendance: 38,200
HAMBURG 4-0 KÖLN
Fukal 34
Sichone 63 (og)
Barbarez 67
Romeo 83
Fukal headed in Hollerbach's corner. Sichone tackled Barbarez' centre
into his own net. Fukal headed another Holler corner at goal, this time
'keeper Pröll managed to save at first but Barbarez was there to nod
in the rebound. Romeo completed the thrashing with a whack across goal
after being brought in promising position by Mahdavikia's ball over the
top of the Eff Zeh defense. Laslandes was sent off for an unnecessary
foul on Barbarez from behind.
It's carnival in Cologne and the FC is going disguised as football team
this year...
Assists: Hollerbach, Barbarez, Mahdavikia
Red Card: Laslandes 87 (Köln)
Attendance: 38,719
9 FEBRUARY 2002
SCHALKE 4-0 ST. PAULI
Sand 9
Möller 24
Böhme 54 (Pen)
Reck 80 (Pen)
Sand headed "Königsblau" into the lead from Böhme's pinpoint accurate
cross. A carbon copy of Böhme's cross left Möller all alone in front
of the 'keeper, he inexplicably hit the post with his first attempt
but put away his own rebound to make it 2-0. Bajramovic made a great
save from Wilmots' shot, too bad he's the right midfielder, not the
'keeper => straight red card and on top of it Böhme scored a penalty
as cocky as I have seldomly seen (chipped straight into the middle)!
Veteran 'keeper Oliver Reck, in his 18th & final season in the league
scored his first goal from the penalty spot as well after Asamoah was
brought down by Pauli 'keeper Henzler.
Assists: Böhme, Asamoah
Red Card: Bajramovic 53 (St. Pauli)

HERTHA 2-0 STUTTGART
Marcelinho 16, 37
This was amateur coach Falko Götz' first game in charge of the BuLi
team. As a result Gabor Király returned between the posts, Hartmann,
Beinlich and Alex Alves made comebacks in the Starting XI as well.
Marcelinho gave Hertha the lead from a fantastically curled free kick.
Hartmann won the ball in the kickoff circle, carried it to the opposing
area and was brought down under a challenge, still the ball broke to
Marcelinho who fired a low one-touch shot through the 'keepers braces
for the 2-0. Bordon was sent off for his 2nd bookable offence after he
again had to iron out a mistake by his new defense partner and VfB
record signing Fernando Meira. Preetz lifted the ball onto the crossbar
following a wonderful Marcelinho through pass.
Assists: Preetz, Hartmann
Red Card: Bordon 70 (Stuttgart)
Attendance: 25,329
ROSTOCK 4-0 FREIBURG
Di Salvo 10, 61
Lange 24
Rydlewicz 71
Lange played a longball over the top of the SCF defense, Kruse slept,
Rydlewicz got away in his back, closed in on goal, drew out the 'keeper
and centred to Di Salvo for the 1-0. Hansa's energetic captain then won
the ball in his own area, carried it for more than half the length of
the pitch at full pace, Müller tackled the ball into Lange's path, he
remained cool and slotted past Reus.
Lantz played a through pass to Di Salvo and with the nail of his big toe
he poked the ball over the 'keeper who came rushing out. Iashvili won a
penalty for ??? but Schober saved from his countryman Tskitishvili,
unfortunately for the 'keeper he hit the ground so awkwardly that he'll
miss approximately 6 weeks with a shoulder injury; 38-year old Perry
"Grim Reaper" Bräutigam, the league's oldest player came on in his
place.
Rydlewicz crowned his Man of the Match performance with a perfectly
placed header over the 'keeper from Lantz' cross. It was Hansa's highest
victory in 4½ years!
Assists: Rydlewicz, Lantz (x2)
Attendance: 12,100
WOLFSBURG 2-1 COTTBUS
Róbson Ponté 12, 24 Da Silva 90
White-hot striker Tomislav Maric was out with a broken rib, Klimowicz
played instead. Phenomenal one-touch passing from Munteanu and Kühbauer
opened the gates for Róbson Ponté who pushed Klimowicz aside before
volleying past Piplica. Weiser sent Petrov soaring down the left flank,
he effordlessly burned Beeck with the ball (!) before centring for
Róbson Ponté for the easiest of all tap-ins. Allegedly Barcelona scouts
were in the stands to monitor Petrov in this game... Klimowicz had a
headed goal disallowed for brushing aside Piplica with his huge body!
Reghecampf curled a free kick against the crossbar in Miriuta's absence
& then provided the cross to Da Silva's 90th minute consolation header.
Assists: Kühbauer, Petrov, Reghecampf
Attendance: 11,217
BREMEN 1-0 KAISERSLAUTERN
Aílton 51
Werder officially said goodbye to Austria's Andreas Herzog who was the
teams' playmaker in the past 9 years in a moving and tearful ceremony.
Koch made a great save against Lisztes early on after the Hungarian
stole the ball off ex-Werderaner Ramzy in the box. The 'keeper repeated
the trick against one of Lisztes' fabulous free kicks minutes later.
Aílton volleyed straight at the 'keeper after more hair-raising errors
in the FCK defense.
Wehlage created an opening for Bode with a precise 40m pass, Harry Koch
ran over Werder's all-time topscorer as well as his namesake and 'keeper
leaving Aílton to arrive and tap into an empty net. To top things Koch
also hurt himself during the collision and had to be substituted. There
is a saying here in Germany which fits quite nicely to this one: "Viele
Köche verderben den Brei..." (many cooks spoil the mush). :)
Attendance: 27,100
LEVERKUSEN 5-0 MÖNCHENGLADBACH
Ballack 9
Neuville 17
Schneider 31
Ramelow 84
Berbatov 87
Ballack gave Bayer the lead with a mighty left-footed hammer courtesy
of Bastürk's ball over the top of the defense. Berbatov, playing for the
suspended Kirsten, abused his marker Pletsch to no end before centring
for Neuville who slid in the 2-0. Schneider scored with a very long free
kick from the wing which made its way past everybody including 'keeper
Stiel. Korell was sent off with double-yellow for a 50/50 challenge on
Neuville.
Van Lent hit a running drive against the post on the counter attack.
Ašanin "stopped" Schneider's cross for Ramelow who had a field day
tapping in from close range -- all four goals came from members of the
German national team! Berbatov completed the rout after more great work
down the wing from the lively Schneider.
Assists: Bastürk, Berbatov, Placente, Schneider
Red Card: Korell 57 (Mönchengladbach)
Attendance: 22,500 (sold out)
BAYERN MÜNCHEN 1-1 DORTMUND
Élber 81 Amoroso 78
Kahn had to risk his neck with a save against Rosický who marched thru
the FCB defense unchallenged in the 5th minute. Élber wasted a great
chance created by a Scholl through pass at the other end. Kuffour and
Kahn both went up for a high cross and Ghana's captain hit the "World
Keeper of the Year" in the chest with his full weight -- Kahn had to be
treated for minutes but was able to continue. He then totally went nuts
after ref Steinborn gave Dortmund a free kick at the edge of the box
after Lizarazu was said to have hacked Rosický, in fact he got all ball
though!
Dortmund was the more offensive team in the first half, played more
aggressive football and had more possession as well. Kahn made one of
his trademark Hollywood saves from Ewerthon's rip across goal to kick-
start the second half. Effenberg, sporting a new army-cut, sold Wörns a
rude dummy before cracking a shot against the crossbar, his best scene
of the match. Amoroso won a free kick in dangerous position and curled
it into Kahn's corner to give the visitors the not-undeserved lead.
Élber headed Bayern level out of nowhere with the back of his head
from Scholl's long cross.
Just when you thought that everything was over, these Bayern hit back!
Élber even had a chance to win the game 4 minutes later after dodging
Kohler's tackle but Lehmann saved so this one ended in a 1-1 draw which
is, after all, probably a fair result for both sides.
Assists: Amoroso, Scholl
Attendance: 54,000
