BUNDESLIGA ROUND 11

BAYERN IN FUNNY JERSEYS CONTINUE THEIR RAMPAGE

28 OCTOBER 2001

HAMBURG 0-1 ROSTOCK
						Beierle 42

On their 6th high quality counter attack Hansa finally got themselves
on the scoreboard: Di Salvo schooled Hoogma on the wing and Beierle
drilled in the eventual game-winner with a sliding shot. Already his
4th goal for Rostock, he is becoming equally important for Hansa as
he was for Duisburg 2-3 years ago when he was *The Whole F'n Show*!
Di Salvo had the regular 0-2 disallowed for offside, still Hansa hung
on to the victory as a few half chances from Barbarez and Heinz aside,
Hamburg rarely threatened.

Assist: Di Salvo
Attendance: 46,169

NÜRNBERG 1-3 HERTHA
Wiblishauser 59 Marcelinho 20, 90
						Goor 74

7 players of Nürnberg were suspended from the team due to "lack of
professional behaviour and performance" in midweek which led manager
Edgar Geenen (who was sacked by 1860 München due to "shady business"
not long ago...) to open a good ol' can o' whoop-arse on those players.
Eventually he went way overboard by heavily insulting the players with
the consequence that the whole mess will now go to court...oh well...

To football: The aggressive Dárdai who provides Hertha's central
midfield with some vital combativeness (which they sorely lacked at
the beginning of the season with the Beinlich - Marcelinho - Deisler
formation) stole the rock off Gomis before releasing Marcelinho on
the counter attack, the blond Brasilian easily beat the 'keeper with
a simple fake before slotting in from an acute angle.

Wiblishauser equalized with a heavily deflected distance shot at the
hour mark. Nikl amateurishly gifted the ball away under pressure from
Preetz, Goor cruised in to sovereignly make it 1-2. Nikl, as good as
a player as he is, has not convinced as leader of the FCN defense
after the transfer of Johansson. Goor found Marcelinho on another
counter attack, the ball went through Kampa's braces, game over.

Assists: Dárdai, Jarolim, Preetz, Goor
Attendance: 24,700

27 OCTOBER 2001

KAISERSLAUTERN 0-0 SCHALKE

DJ subbed for the injured Lincoln and just couldn't give the team
the impulses necessary to knock out a shaken Schalke. Möller, culprit
of both goals on Wednesday, smashed against the crossbar after a solo
over half the length of the pitch, already Schalke's 8th alu-hit of
the season. Sand missed another great chance 1-on-1 with Koch, last
seasons' topscorer still without a single goal this season... Both
teams had legit penalty claims turned down. Game could also have
ended 3-3 or rather 2-3 as leaky defense lines allowed plenty of
chances and as Schalke was the better team.

Attendance: 40,600 (sold out)

1860 MÜNCHEN 1-4 LEVERKUSEN
Häßler 31 Hoffmann 33 (og)
						Placente 78
						Schneider 84
						Neuville 90 (Pen)

Häßler fired 60 into the lead against the flow of the game. On the
opposite side little "Icke" unnecessarily gave away a corner from
which Hoffmann headed the equalizer...into his own net! (it was his
27th birthday, nice present he made himself...;) Bierofka send a
dipping shot onto the crossbar. Lúcio idiotically got himself sent
off with a double yellow for arguing over a free kick! Then Bayer
mounted their ultimate comeback:

Sebescen with a long throw-in, Neuville boxed out Tapalovic and
Placente excaped his marker Pürk to arrive at the far post and
score his first ever Bundesliga goal. Butt launched the ball
upfield, Neuville waited for support and then dished the ball
out to Schneider who swept it past Jentzsch. Neuville won a
penalty and converted himself for the 1-4 final result.

Thus Bayer equals the all-time starting record for most games in
a row without defeat, currently held by Eintracht Frankfurt from
the 1992-1993 season. Guess who coached the Eintracht back then?
Toppmöller. They finished 3rd by the way...

Assists: Cerny, Ballack, Sebescen, Neuville (x2)
Red Card: Lúcio 68 (Leverkusen)
Attendance: 25,000

KÖLN 0-2 BAYERN MÜNCHEN
						Pizarro 27, 70

Get this: Bayern had packed in the wrong jerseys for this game (they
normally play in red as does the home side Köln) so they had to cut
the sleeves off their training shirts and pull them over their game
jerseys! Pizarro substituted for Élber who was told to take it easy
for a few weeks by coach Hitzfeld so it was the Peruvians chance to
wreak some havoc at the centre of attack. And he did!

First he headed in Tarnat's free kick and then he pounced onto
Sichone's terrible candle to make the game safe for Bayern midway
through the 2nd half. Sichone truly had an abysmal game, seldomly
have I seen a defender being abused in such a bad way. He is only
a shadow of the impressive centre back he was last season now.

In between Roque Santa Cruz also roqued the crossbar for Bayern.
Generally you got the impression that this was only a better practise
session for the European Champs (playing in training shirts and all...).
To add to Köln's misery captain and top offense threat Lottner tore a
muscle and will join top attacker Timm on the injured list for a couple
of weeks. Things are not looking particularly bright for Köln at the
moment...

Assist: Tarnat
Attendance: 42,000 (sold out)

COTTBUS 0-2 DORTMUND
						Ricken 78
						Amoroso 83

This game should have been shown in Rio and São Paulo: 6 Brasilians
on the pitch! And one went to work right away: Amoroso first shook
the post after Piplica spilled Stevic's free kick and then headed
over an absolute sitter following a flash of inspiration by Rosický.

Kaluzny was hot for Cottbus, good thing he's returned from injury
so quickly as he's one helluva playa! Ricken won the game 12 minutes
from the end with a shot from the edge of the box in his first ever
game as captain of the Yellow Blacks.

Amoroso added a long overdue goal of himself 5 minutes later when
he easily scored from Man Of The Match Ricken's through pass. 10
yellow cards in this game, 5 on each side (season record if I'm
not mistaken)!

Assists: Koller, Ricken
Attendance: 19,300

STUTTGART 2-0 ST. PAULI
Tiffert 11
Endreß 89

Tiffert gave Stuttgart the lead with a nice turn-around shot after
swapping passes with Ganea, the 1st Bundesliga goal for the German
U-21 forward. Seitz headed against the crossbar following more good
work from Ganea. Kientz got himself sent off for a mean, mean elbow
to the face of Hleb. Endreß beat 'keeper Bulat to Adhemar's corner
to head in the 2-0 a minute before the end.

Assists: Ganea, Adhemar
Red Card: Kientz 74 (St. Pauli)
Attendance: 23,000

BREMEN 1-0 WOLFSBURG
Bode 79

Very drab game which Bode won with a header from Frings' headed pass.
Aílton even missed an injury time penalty.

Assist: Frings
Attendance: 25,814

MÖNCHENGLADBACH 2-2 FREIBURG
Münch 10 (Pen) Kehl 3
Witeczek 81 Sellimi 65

Iashvili forwarded But's corner to Kehl who blasted in off the crossbar.
Van Houdt dived over the 'keeper who was on the ground, Münch converted
the penalty à la Neeskens. Sellimi capitalized from a goalmouth scramble
and Witeczek again equalized with a nice shot across goal after Nielsen
pressed Kehl into a turnover.

Assists: Iashvili, Van Houdt, Nielsen
Attendance: 27,876
