HERE WE GO AGAIN!
After 69 days of withdrawal the round leather was finally rolling
again this weekend. The league welcomes back newly promoted yet
legendary clubs Mönchengladbach and Nürnberg as well as the "cult"
team of St. Pauli. The Bundesliga can be very proud of some of
their new signings like Amoroso (ex-Parma), Marcelinho (ex-Gremio)
or Matellan (ex-Boca) who will surely carry the crowds into plenty
of "oh's" and "ah's".
So without further ado: Let the 39th ever Bundesliga season begin!
Saturday 07/28/00, 15.30 cet
LEVERKUSEN
2-1
WOLFSBURG
Lúcio 40, 47
Feldhoff 86
Lúcio, arguably the best defender in the Bundesliga, got tired of
Wolfsburg's offense "attempts" and joined the attack: New signing
Sebescen tackled the ball into his path and he beat the 'keeper
with a fierce low drive from 25 meters out. This guys' an animal!
His 2nd came courtesy of Schneider's ball over the top of the VfL
defense, overall his 7th goal in only his 16th game, a quote even
a forward would be proud of! Ex-Leverkusener Feldhoff pulled one
back from Petrov's through pass.
Assists: Sebescen, Schneider, Petrov
Attendance: 22,000
MÖNCHENGLADBACH
1-0
BAYERN MÜNCHEN
Van Lent 23
Bayern started the match very defensively and let the "Fohlen" have
plenty of space in midfield. Former Bayern midfielder Witeczek punished
them dearly by launching an inch-perfect crossfield pass to attacker
Van Lent who showed Linke his heels and blindly whacked a shot across
goal, past Kahn and into the net.
The defending champions stepped on the gas a little more after the
break when Scholl and Santa Cruz came on for the anonymous Paulo Sergio
and Jancker. Bayern should have won a penalty when Korell handballed
under pressure from Élber. Still Gladbach deserved the victory with
Kahn, Hargreaves and Élber being the only Bayern in any kind of form.
Assist: Witeczek
Attendance: 34,500 (sold out)
FREIBURG
3-0
BREMEN
Kobiashvili 50 (Pen)
Tanko 87
Coulibaly 90
Gay twat Zeyer dived for the most blatant penalty you'll ever see
and got it, Kobiashvili converted, Rost had a hand on it. Kehl set
up Tanko on the counter attack, the fast-paced Ghanaian striker
rounded Rost and tapped into an empty net. Coulibaly made it 3-0
with a ferocious free kick from the edge of the box.
Assists: Zeyer, Kehl
Red Card: Stalteri 83 (Bremen)
Attendance: 25,000 (sold out)
DORTMUND
2-0
NÜRNBERG
Amoroso 12, 33
Koller flicked onto Reuter's longball, Amoroso splashed between the
Nürnberg defense and placed the ball past Kampa for the first goal
of the 2001-2002 Bundesliga season! Evanílson headed Stevic's cross
to his countryman and Amoroso scored his 2nd of the afternoon with
a crisp 1st time volley from just inside the area. Dortmund looked
sharp offensively, Rosický-Koller-Amoroso is a deadly trio, problem
could be their ancient defense (Kohler+Reuter+Heinrich=100 years)
though. Nürnberg were out of their depth in their first game back
in the top flight.
Assists: Koller, Evanílson
Attendance: 65,500
1860 MÜNCHEN
0-4
KAISERSLAUTERN
Strasser 57
Marschall 60
Pettersson 76
H Koch 83 (Pen)
Strasser couldn't watch this boring summer kick anymore so he took
matters into his own hands and beat 'keeper Jentzsch with a tame
roller from just outside the box. Oläf-Marschall-Fußballgott, FCK
goalgetter of days long gone headed it Basler's corner at the hour
mark for the 0-2.
Harry Koch played the ball over the top of the 60er defense,
Pettersson sprung onto it, Jentzsch came out of the goal and the
blond Swede lobbed into the empty net. Adonis converted a penalty
won by substitute Klos to complete the lucky drubbing.
Assists: Basler, H Koch, Klos
Attendance: 26,500
STUTTGART
0-0
KÖLN
Game wasn't bad for a 0-0 draw. Also marked the debut of 19-year
old German junior international striker Kevin Kuranyi for Stuttgart.
Baranek had the biggest chance of the game when he crashed a shot
against the crossbar.
Attendance: 32,000
COTTBUS
1-0
HAMBURG
Miriuta 90 (Pen)
Game already looked like a certain draw when new Energie signing
Marko Topic dropped to the floor under pressure from Pieckenhagen
and ref Dr. Wack blew his whistle. Playmaker and captain Miriuta
sent the 'keeper the wrong way for a not undeserved victory.
Assist: Topic
Attendance: 17,783

SCHALKE
-
ROSTOCK
Ppd to 08/21/00 -- new Arena "AufSchalke" hasn't been completed
in time.
Attendance: n/a
ST. PAULI
0-0
HERTHA
Hertha were on another planet technically, Pauli opposed it with hard
struggle and brave fighting. Deisler went close with two free kicks.
Alex Alves struck the crossbar after good work from Hartmann and new
signing Marcelinho. Bulat, in goal for the newcomers, had an excellent
match and didn't show any weakness.
Attendance: 19,700 (sold out)
