BUNDESLIGA ROUND 30

22 APRIL 2001

FREIBURG 5-2 KAISERSLAUTERN
But 15, 39 Djorkaeff 49
Sellimi 30 Pettersson 69
Baya 37
Kobiashvili 42

Baya smashed a stunning first time volley against the crossbar from
But's cross. Strasser played a catastrophic pass into Grammozis heels,
Iashvili played in But and the Russian playmaker swept the ball past
Koch. The FCK 'keeper made a fine save from Baya after the Tunesian
playmaker destroyed Strasser and Ramzy with his dribbling skills.
Golz made a great save from Lokvenc' diving header.

Sellimi coolly slotted in after the ball favourably broke to him from
a goalmouth scramble. His countryman Baya volleyed in the 3-0 from
Zeyer's cross only 7 minutes later. But made it four after a walk
through the FCK defense and Kobiashvili added a 5th with a phenomenal
efford after clobbering 2 "defenders" and firing into the far corner
with his outside instep. Red Devil 'keeper Koch almost cried on his
way into the locker room at half time.

Richie Golz must have had mercy with his poor colleague when he
smacked a goal kick straight to Buck who fed Djorkaeff for the 5-1.
Hristov should have been sent off for trying to cripple Schumann
with a brutal tackle, ref only gave the bloody hack a yellow card.
But could have completed his hattrick but he blazed Iashvili's
cross over the bar, Pettersson grabbed a goal from DJ's through
pass and Klose came on as a sub and struck the post.

Attendance : 25,000 (sold out)

1860 MÜNCHEN 2-1 STUTTGART
Max 12 Balakov 28 (Pen)
Beierle 56

Schroth would have headed in Borimirov's cross wasn't it for Max who
put his perm to the ball before it crossed the line to steal the goal
and claim it for himself. Ganea won a penalty, Balakov converted with
style - Stuttgart's last 3 goals came from penalty kicks! Schroth
headed Bierofka's excellent cross against the post. Riseth tore a hole
into the VfB defense with a surging run, released Borimirov on the wing
and Beierle put away his centre with ease for the game winner. Häßler
struck the post with a 30 meter free kick, his 10th(!) alu-hit of the
season.

Attendance : 24,100

21 APRIL 2001

BREMEN 2-3 WOLFSBURG
Aílton 42 Akpoborie 29
Pizarro 84 Sebescen 44, 68

Akpoborie received the ball from Juskowiak, Verlaat pathetically went
down too early trying to tackle the ball and while on the ground Jonny
who is rumored to have a "Slave Ship" back in his home country poked
the ball through Rost's braces into the net. Rapid passing led to the
equalizer: Frings to Pizarro to Aílton who scored his first goal in a
while with a left-footed stroke.

Akpoborie headed against the woodwork. Rost turned a tremendous 30m
Sebescen free kick against the crossbar as well. Munteanu saved Bode's
shot on the goalline, Bode's only positive scene all game. Sebescen
wide-openly headed in Munteanu's corner following a grave positional
error by Bode who was later taken off by coach Schaaf. Claudio Pizarro
fantastically volleyed in Eilts' cross with a scissor kick, in vain...

Attendance : 32,107

COTTBUS 1-0 UNTERHACHING
Franklin 57

Helbig was booked for a cheap "Hand of God" imitation. Franklin had
a penalty claim turned down after falling over Seifert. The Brasilian
attacker had another chance when he volleyed just wide shortly before
the break. Latoundji juggled past Hirsch on the wing, Franklin killed
his hard centre and placed it into the top-left corner for the only
goal of the afternoon. 'Haching hasn't scored in 4 games.

Attendance : 17,358

ROSTOCK 2-1 KÖLN
Benken 23 Kurth 73
Majak 48

Salou flicked the ball up and whipped a blind cross into the box,
Benken shoved Keller to the ground before heading home the 1-0.
Salou then took out Sinkala with an elbow shot to the face, Cichon
had to come on in his place. Majak headed Rydlewicz' corner under
the crossbar. Kurth powerfully headed in Lottner's corner for the
consolation goal. Schröder pulled down Scherz in the box but no
penalty given, Hansa escape with lucky 3 points. After the game
Köln coach Lienen heavily (and deservedly) criticised the ref for
screwing his team.

Attendance : 15,200

LEVERKUSEN 1-1 HAMBURG
Kirsten 44 Tøfting 41

Tøfting fired the Hanseats in front with a deflected free kick.
Ballack headed Zé Roberto's cross to Kirsten who bundled his
12th of the season across the line. Hejduk was sent off for a
late tackle on Ujfaluši in his first start since last fall.
Berti is just about done, I wouldn't be surprised if manager
Callmund would try to talk Rudi Völler into taking over the
team until the end of the season again.

Red Card : Hejduk 87 (Leverkusen)
Attendance : 22,500 (sold out)

FRANKFURT 0-2 BAYERN MÜNCHEN
						Scholl 22
						Tarnat 90

Scholl gave Bayern the lead with a left-footed shot into the far
corner from Lizarazu's excellent through pass. Hargreaves, playing
for the injured Jeremies, volleyed inches wide. Zickler blazed
agonizingly wide after good work from Scholl and Santa Cruz on the
counter attack. Frankfurt should have been awarded a penalty when
Lizarazu jumped into Bindewald's heels but no call.

At the other end Kracht mowed down Paulo Sergio, same result.
Bindewald was lucky to escape with a yellow card after wrestling
down Zickler as last man. Tarnat came on as a substitute in his
100th Bundesliga game and scored a beautiful goal with a diving
header from Salihamidzic's cross.

Attendance : 57,000 (sold out)

SCHALKE 3-1 HERTHA
Böhme 57 Deisler 34
Van Hoogdalem 79
Mpenza 86

Reck made a tremendous double save from Alex Alves' self-won, 6th
minute penalty to kick off this game in style. Still Deisler fired
Hertha into the lead after Konstantinidis flicked onto a throw-in.
Böhme equalized with an impossible free kick against Király who
made a similar capital blunder as in the teams' 1st meeting this
season in Berlin. Van Hoogdalem headed in the eventual game winner
from Böhme's corner. Mpenza made sure of victory by sprinting onto
Möller's fine outside instep pass, brutally destroying Rehmer and
squeezing one past Király into the near corner.

Attendance : 56,556

20 APRIL 2001

DORTMUND 5-0 BOCHUM
Ricken 18
Heinrich 29
Reina 66, 68
Stevic 89 (Pen)

Not one but two Bochum defenders managed to let Kohler's longball
slip through to Heinrich who centred and Ricken tackled the ball
into the net for the 1-0. Heinrich then made the 2-0 himself with
a goalmouth tap-in from Rosický's free kick. Billy Reina scored
two within two minutes after the hour, the 1st a turnaround volley
after his initial shot was blocked, the 2nd a shot into the far
corner from Ricken's "through heel". Micky Stevic rounded up the
night with a penalty won by Reina.

Attendance : 65,500
