COMPETITIVE BUT OH SO MEDIOCRE BUNDESLIGA...
For the 2nd week in a row 4 out of the 5 "top teams" were unable to get
any points at all against midtable opposition. First off again Bayern
took the cake by staying without a point against the teams from the
East, they got their asses whipped by Rostock. Schalke weren't much
better either, they lost at home to "relegation candidate" Hamburg
which means that there is no team unbeaten at home anymore.
Leverkusen gave an absolutely uninspired performance away to 1860
München and kept on pissing away their title chances like they have
successfully done for the past couple of weeks. Thus the radiant
winner of the weekend is Dortmund who needed a grave mistake by the
referee though to start opening a can of woop arse on Eintracht
Frankfurt who now seem in deep deep trouble.
2 MARCH 2001
DORTMUND 6-1 FRANKFURT
Wörns 30 Yang 48
Ricken 64, 67
Bobic 71, 90
Addo 79
After Dedê struck the post Wörns headed Dortmund into the lead from
Rosický's corner. 4 minutes earlier Frankfurt had Schur very harshly
sent off for holding Ricken in a non-dangerous area, his 2nd bookable
offence. The Eintracht equalized on their first attack after the break,
Chen Yang hit a deflected shot past 'keeper Laux. Kryszalowicz missed
a huge sitter 1-on-1 with the Dortmund reserve 'keeper. Ricken turned
the game around with 2 goals in 3 minutes: First he fired Heinrich's
centre high into the net (he was way offsides though !) and then he
beat Heinen with a crisp shot from the edge of the box.
Frankfurt, because of the two mistakes by the ref, now totally fell
apart. Bobic scored from a goalmouth scramble off a set piece, Addo,
shortly after coming on as a sub for the again inspiring Rosický,
tapped in Ricken's centre and again Bobic got the final result done
with a marvellous scoop shot from well outside the area. Even they
are now leading the league Dortmund continue to stack low, Sammer:
"Our performance between the red card and the 2-1 was catastrophic
and if Kryszalowicz had used that chance there wouldn't have been
any questions about the title."
Red Card : Schur 26 (Dortmund)
Attendance : 62,000
3 MARCH 2001
BREMEN 3-1 FREIBURG
Pizarro 23, 45 Kobiashvili 68 (Pen)
Kobiashvili 51 (og)
Werder played Freiburg against the wall straight from kick-off.
After Aílton and Andy Herzog went close in the opening minutes
it was Peruvian jewel Claudio Pizarro who found the back of the
net first with a left-footed blast after Coulibaly flicked onto
Herzog's huge throw-in. Werder's #10 was also the scorer of the
2nd goal, Herzog's free kick rolled across the area for him to
tap in at the far post.
Pizarro continued to be the most dangerous attacker on the pitch,
Kobiashvili turned his sharp, goalbound centre/shot into his own
net. "Kobi" also managed the consolation goal from the penalty
spot after Krstajic bumped into Dorn in the area. Werder played
some of their best football this season even though Freiburg is
also kind of a favourite opponent for the Boys in Green.
Attendance : 29,650
STUTTGART 2-1 WOLFSBURG
Adhemar 2, 61 Rische 86
Ganea won a free kick near the box, "Baby Roberto Carlos" Adhemar
stepped up and took Reitmaier for a ride with a shot into the
'keepers corner. The diminutive Brasilian went on to strike the
post minutes later. Reitmaier made up for his mistake with two
brilliant saves from Adhemar and Bordon.
After an hour Adhemar grabbed his 2nd of the afternoon controlling
Seitz' cross and coolly firing past the 'keeper, his 5th goal from
3 starts ! Rische pulled one back with a thumping header from
Weiser's long cross on the counter attack.
Attendance: 15,000
UNTERHACHING 2-1 BOCHUM
Straube 37 Christiansen 27
Breitenreiter 85
Christiansen followed up after Tremmel spilled Peschel's shot.
Straube equalized with a fierce free kick from the edge of the
box. Bastürk was sent off for a rude foul on Zimmermann, 2nd
bookable offence. Breitenreiter won the game from a goalmouth
scramble and 1 minute from time Oberleitner got Fahrenhorst
sent off as well for first pulling his nutsack and then taking
a dive, massive mistake in judgement by the ref !
Red Cards : Bastürk 60 and Fahrenhorst 89 (Bochum)
Attendance : 9,000
COTTBUS 0-2 KAISERSLAUTERN
Basler 52 (Pen)
Hristov 63
Klose won a penalty, Basler beared the responsibility in default
taker Harry Koch's absense (suspended) and converted the spot kick.
Buck played in Bjelica with a nice through pass, Croatia's Player
of the Year fed Hristov with a classy backheel, the Bulgarian
banged the decisive goal in off the post. Rising FCK talent Klose
stupidly got himself sent off for shoving Hujdurovic right in front
of the ref. Franklin headed against the crossbar but it remained
0-2.
Red Card : Klose 86 (Kaiserslautern)
Attendance : 18,246
ROSTOCK 3-2 BAYERN MÜNCHEN
Agali 29 Kuffour 33
Salou 51 Jeremies 66
Jakobsson 61
Jeremies tried to clear a routine ball but instead whacked the ball at
Agali who ran into the area and sent Kahn crashing onto his arse before
tapping into the empty net. Kuffour equalized with a strong header from
Scholl's free kick, the first Bayern goal by a defender this season.
Another African player then regained the lead for the hosts, Togo's
Bachirou Salou ran onto Baumgart's phenomenal through pass, engaged his
turbo and showed the Bayern defense his heels before dribbling Kahn into
the ground and coolly slotting home.
Jakobsson even made it 3-1 with a thumping header from Emara's free kick
courtesy of slack marking by Effenberg. Jeremies pulled one back through
sheer will: He received the ball from Élber, cruised into the area,
Pieckenhagen could barely parry his first shot but was chanceless on the
follow-up. Ref Merk sent off Bayern assistant coach Henke for whining
and then Kahn got his marching orders as well for delay of game and
pushing the ball into the Hansa goal with his fists (!) in the final
minute (hilariously stupid move, was shown again and again on TV this
weekend).
Red Card : Kahn 90 (Bayern München)
Attendance : 20,500 (sold out)
KÖLN 1-0 HERTHA
Cullmann 48
Cullmann headed in Lottner's free kick for the lone goal of the night.
Konstantinidis headed against the crossbar for Hertha. Köln created
shitloads of chances on the counterattack but carelessly pissed them
away.
Attendance : 34,500
4 MARCH 2001
SCHALKE 0-1 HAMBURG
Meijer 87
Reck made a great save against Kovac early on. Barbarez too easily
destroyed Hajto on the wing, made his way into the box and curled
a shot against the crossbar. Asamoah missed a sitter after great
build-up play with Möller & Böhme. The Ghanaian/German forward
dragged a well-taken turn around volley just wide minutes later.
Kovac had a handballed goal rightfully disallowed early into the
2nd half.
Mpenza had a goal called off at the other end as well, the refs
ruled that Möller's cross had crossed the touchline in the air.
Mahdavikia pathetically blew a huge chance 1-on-1 with Reck when
sent clear of the defense by Kovac. Two weak tackles from Waldoch
(back from injury) and Hajto allowed substitute Heinz to roam free
on the wing, his precise centre was put away by Meijer for the not
undeserved victory.
Attendance : 37,421
1860 MÜNCHEN 1-0 LEVERKUSEN
Schroth 85
After Bayern and Schalke miserably failed to regain the top of
the table Leverkusen had the unique chance to tighten things up
even more at the top. Matysek, back in goal, made a good save
from Häßler's free kick. Jentzsch made an equally good save from
Neuville's deflected shot. Max had a goal rightfully disallowed
for handballing just before halftime.
Kirsten missed a sitter with the 'keeper flatfooted and the goal
wide open minutes after the break. "Der Schwatte" then wide-openly
headed over Schneider's cross. Frustrated by missing these great
chances he got himself sent off for a rude tackle from behind on
Riseth, his 2nd bookable offence. Cerny followed him 8 minutes
later for a blatant handball, his 2nd yellow as well.
Schroth powerfully headed in the game winner from Bayer reject
Hoffmann's cross 5 minutes before the end of the game.
Red Cards : Kirsten 62 (Leverkusen), Cerny 70 (1860 München)
Attendance : 21,500
