BAYERN ARE THE WINNERS OF THE WEEKEND
Reigning champs FC Bayern put the Bundesliga relation of power back
into perspective with a convincing victory over then league leaders
Leverkusen.
N°2 Schalke showed that they aren't championship material with a
juiceless loss in Wolfsburg, the Kings Blues had gunned all their
load in their cup game midweek against Dortmund.
Hertha managed to squander a two goal lead against Freiburg while
Dortmund and Köln continue to deliver impressive displays against
Stuttgart and 1860 respectively.

KÖLN 4-0 1860 MÜNCHEN
Kurth 42
Arveladze 65
Lottner 67
Springer 76
60 coach Lorant considered quitting after the teams' humiliating 0-5
home defeat against Bundesliga bottom team Bochum midweek in cup
play. Despite new 'keeper (Hofmann for Jentzsch) and new attack
(Beierle & Winkler for Max & Agostino for whom Milan has allegedly
offered ŁM10) nothing really changed for the Lions.
Kurth opened the floodgates with a header from Arveladze's cross.
The Georgian striker then made the 2-0 himself with an easy tap-in
from Scherz' centre. Captain Lottner who extended his contract until
2003 in midweek scored the 3-0 with a follow-up from his own shot
before Springer put the icing on the cake with a header from Lottner's
corner.
Häßler came closest for the Lions when he smashed a shot against
the post, 60's only scoring chance of the game. [TL]

BOCHUM 2-1 FRANKFURT
Drincic 15 Reichenberger 49
Fahrenhorst 34
Schindzielorz took the ball off Branco, Maric forwarded it to his strike
partner Drincic who beat Heinen with a low, well-placed shot into the
far corner. The next member of the German U-18 national team
debuted in this game : Frankfurt winger Giuseppe Gemiti!
Another young man, Bochum's Fahrenhorst, scorer of a spectacular
first time volley goal earlier in the season made it 2-0 with a pretty
curled shot from the edge of the box. Reichenberger pulled one back
with a header from Rasiejewski's headed pass.
Guié-Mien had the equalizer on his foot but only struck the post. [TL]

STUTTGART 0-2 DORTMUND
Dedę 5
Stevic 64 (Pen)
Endreß fouled Stevic at 25 meters out, Dedę smashed in the resulting
free kick with a little help from Hildebrand who again left his corner.
The young VfB 'keeper then clumsily fouled Addo 1-on-1 after Borussia's
Ghanaian clobbered the entire (!) Stuttgart defense, penalty, Stevic
converted.
Stuttgart has hit rock bottom, the air for coach Rangnick gets thinner
and thinner. [TL]

WOLFSBURG 2-0 SCHALKE
Thomsen 56
Akonnor 89
Maric struck the post after a great solo. The Croatian striker was
then busted open during a collision with Polish thug Hajto but kept
on playing ! Thomsen headed in Greiner's corner. Akonnor decided the
game with a beautiful lob from 25 meters out courtesy of Kryger's
tackle upfield. [TL]

HERTHA 2-2 FREIBURG
Tretschok 28 (Pen) Dorn 35
Sverrisson 29 Kobiashvili 73 (Pen)
Dárdai won a penalty with a leap over Diarra's tackle, Tretschok
converted. Defender Sverrisson made it 2-0 with a cracking shot
into the near corner from Preetz' through pass. Dorn headed one
back from But's free kick.
Berlin-born Freiburg 'keeper Richard Golz kept the visitors in
the game with a fabulous save from Deisler's first time strike
and then Freiburg stole a point with a Kobiashvili penalty won
by Sellimi for being 'pulled down' by Rehmer. [TL]

BAYERN MÜNCHEN 2-0 LEVERKUSEN
Jancker 5
Élber 48
Effenberg played a dream through pass like only he can do, Jancker
ran onto it, stayed cool and buried it with a chip shot past Matysek.
Bayer then lost playmaker Ballack with a bruised shoulder (will be
out for 4-5 weeks) after a rude foul by Jeremies.
Bayern now had even more spaces and after a nice interplay by Paulo
Sergio and Élber Bayern's n°9 whacked in the 2-0 only 3 minutes after
the break. Hothead Róbson Ponté got himself sent off for a baby head
butt on Jeremies, great acting on Jerry's part though...
Jancker headed against the post, was then subbed for Scholl who almost
scored the 3-0 as well after dancing past 3 Leverkusen defenders.
All in all a very solid display by the defending champs who were never
really challenged in this game. [TL]
Red Card : Róbson Ponté 52 (Leverkusen)

KAISERSLAUTERN 2-1 HAMBURG
Klose 86, 88 Butt 90 (Pen)
As always in Kaiserslautern we had to play against 12 men : The team of
Lautern and the ref. As Kovac, Cardoso and Hollerbach came back from
injury we did quite well except for the last minutes when we played too
defensively.
Kovac was fouled in the box after 10 mins, but the ref didn't give us
the penalty... From then on it was an even game with very good
chances for both teams, e.g. Pettersson ran past Butt but missed
the empty net and Heinz missed alone in front of the goal.
The closer the game came to its end the more defensive HSV played
and so we got what we begged for : 2 goals in the last 5 minutes of
the game. Holler fouled Buck, got his second yellow card and after
we kicked the cross of the freekick out of our box Lautern made a
laugh from our offside trap and Klose scored easily.
2 minutes later the same situation, but this time the cross found Klose
and he headed it in. In injury time Kovac was pulled down in the box,
this time the ref gave the pen and Butt converted. [SM]
Red Card : Hollerbach 85 (Hamburg)

COTTBUS 1-0 ROSTOCK
Reghecampf 70
Very rough and dirty East Derby, the first casualty was Cottbus'
Bosnian defender Hujdurovic who was sent off just before half time
for his 2nd bookable offence. Franklin then got Hansa captain Wibrĺn
his marching orders as well by going down as struck by lightning when
being slightly shoved -- acting performance worth an Oscar if you ask
me !
Beeck should have been sent off, suspended and heavily fined for
recklessly stomping on Agali. Some football was played as well,
Reghecampf scored the goal of the evening from Franklin's through
pass. Hansa was screwed, even through Energie played the more
dedicated game I don't see how they would have scored against 11
Rostocker... [TL]
Red Cards : Hujdurovic 40 (Cottbus), Wibrĺn 60 (Rostock)
