REIGNING CHAMPS LOSE FURTHER GROUND

Leverkusen bounce back to defeat Kaiserslautern. Bayern only manage
one point in Freiburg because of a dubious free kick. Schalke stay
in the mix as well with a home win in the small Ruhrderby against
Bochum as did Hertha with an unexpected away thrashing of Bayern
beaters Frankfurt.

Youri Mulder, getting his first start in ages, paid back coach Stevens'
trust by scoring the 1-0 from Sand's pass. Small neighbour Bochum
had the better start into the 2nd half, Marijo Maric with the equalizer
after Möller's hospital pass. White hot Ebbe Sand won the Kings Blues
yet another game with a blast from the edge of the box in the 63rd
minute.

Evanílson lobbed the ball into the box with his back to the goal, Ikpeba
kicked fresh air, Reina ran onto the ball and buried it in the far corner.

Evanílson then made it 2-0 himself when he ran onto Stevic's free kick,
Wolfsburg's defense was very poorly positioned, and lobbed the ball
over Reitmaier who came out.

Akpoborie pulled one back against 3 Borussia defenders from Voss'
header. Lehmann parried another shot by the Nigerian against the
post in the 2nd half.

Timm scored his 6th of the season after Micevski favourably deflected
the ball to him in the box. The Cologne youngster then racked up his
7th assist of the season as he perfectly set up Lottner on the counter
attack who scored his 7th goal (as midfielder/defender!).

With Alex Alves, Beinlich and Daei out injured it was defender Van Burik
who headed in defender Sverrisson's cross. Konstantinidis put the guests
up 2-0 with another header, this time Deisler providing the cross. Preuß
was sent off for a love tap on Preetz and then "Der Lange" ran wild in
the Eintracht defense first wide-openly tapping in Deisler's cross and
then completing the rout from Tretschok's through pass.

Jancker fired Bayern into the lead from just outside the box, Élber
let the ball bounce to him. Baya won a controversial free kick (TV
replays showed that neither Sforza nor Fink really fouled him) which

Swedish striker Magnus Arvidsson scored the lone goal of the night
after rounding the entire Hamburg defense like slalom poles and
hitting a disguised shot past Butt. Hamburg was groggy after
battling Delvecchio, Montella & Co. 48 hours earlier.

Ganea struck the post for Stuttgart. Bode wasted numerous chances
before Aílton scored the only goal of the evening with a lob against
Hildebrand who stood slightly too far in front of his goal. Lisztes
was sent off for his 2nd bookable offence.

Leverkusen should have been awarded a penalty when Ramzy hacked
Zé Roberto in the box in the Bundesliga home debut for Berti Vogts.
Neuville opened the scoring with a tap-in from Kirsten's low, hard
centre. Hoffmann played the ball back to his 'keeper, Matysek kicked
fresh air, Hristov stumbled the equalizer into the empty net.

Kirsten headed Bayer back into the lead from Neuville's cross on the
counter attack. Diminutive Portuguese winger Jose Dominguez, only
signed 2 weeks ago from Tottenham, delighted the FCK faithful with
a fantastic solo down the left wing finished by a cracking shot high
into the net to make it 2-2.

Ramzy handballed in the box, Ballack strongly converted the spot kick.
Marschall, Djorkaeff and again Marschall all failed to beat Matysek
from 7 meters out, on the counter strike Neuville capped off his World
Class performance (2 goals, 1 assist) with the 4-2 from Rink's opening
cross pass.

Zdrilic deflected Schwarz' free kick into the net. Haching dominated
weak and tired Lions in their own den which resulted in the 0-2 by
Oberleitner after Zimmermann destroyed Cerny on the wing and
perfectly centred for him.
