Chelsea levelled before the break when Daniel Sturridge crossed for Raul Meireles to volley home and it swung in Chelsea's direction after the break when Gael Clichy was shown a second yellow card for a challenge on Sturridge. STOKE 2 (Etherington 13, Etherington 43)
TOTTENHAM 1 (Adebayor 62 Pen)
Tottenham's winning run ended after losing to Stoke in a pulsating encounter at the Britannia. Stoke began exceptionally well and could have been ahead prior to actually taking the lead inside thirteen minutes. A deflected cross was nodded on and fell to Peter Crouch inside the six yard box and although he couldn't get a shot in, he managed to squirm the ball across goal for Matty Etherington to crash in from close range. The lead was doubled before half time as a long throw was nodded on by Jon Walters and bobbled in at the far post by Etherington again to nab his second. Spurs made changes at the break with Jermaine Defoe and Sebastien Bassong on and originally it made little difference, however on the hour, Spurs got back into it as Luka Modric was tripped in the area by Glenn Whelan and Emmanuel Adebayor made no mistake from the penalty spot. Scott Parker almost levelled it up minutes later but was denied by a superb save by Thomas Sorensen. Indeed Stoke were leading a charmed life as Ryan Shawcross cleared a shot off the line with his elbow whilst Adebayor had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside when replays proved he was clearly on. The decisions continued to go against Spurs as Younes Kaboul was shown a second yellow card for shoving Walters as he made tracks down the left which was probably a little harsh in fairness.

Red Card : Kaboul 82 (Tottenham)

SUNDERLAND 2 (Vaughan 84, Larsson 92 fk)
BLACKBURN 1 (Vukcevic 17)
Sunderland scored two late goals as they came from behind to see off fellow strugglers Blackburn. With new boss Martin O'Neill taking charge for the first time, Sunderland were looking for a good start but the opposite occurred as Rovers took the lead courtesy of poor defending from the hosts. Morton Gamst Pedersen's free kick was controlled on the edge of the area and fired goalwards by Chris Samba and although keeper Kieron Westwood saved, Simon Vukcevic was on hand to nod in. Kieron Richardson missed a glorious chance for Sunderland as keeper Paul Robinson saved his close range prod and after the break, Richardson's stinging effort was deflected with Robinson again saving well. They finally grabbed a deserved equaliser when a cross from the left by James McClean was nodded clear to David Vaughan who unleashed an unstoppable first time shot which arrowed in from 25 yards. It was all set up for a grand finale and it arrived two minutes into stoppage when Sebastien Larsson curled in a free kick from the edge of the area which clipped into the net via the near post.

The visitors took the lead when an Andrew Croft header was saved and the ball bounced over the line off of Wes Hoolahan. Newcastle were level at the interval after Johan Cabaye's looped pass went Demba Ba clear to slot in, however two quick fire goals either side of the hour put Norwich in control as firstly Grant Holt nodded in off the bar after his initial header was saved and then Steve Morison added the third with a firm header from Crofts cross. Dan Gosling had gifted the ball to Crofts in the build up and his day got worse three minutes later when he was sent off for studs first challenge on Russell Martin. Newcastle are made of stern stuff though and pulled one back when Ba netted again after being sent clear by Shola Ameobi but Norwich wrapped it up when Holt headed in Bradley Johnson's cross.
