CHELSEA 1-2 LAZIO

Inzaghi volleyed straight at De Goey from Nedved's brilliant cross. De Goey was called into action again minutes later, tipping out a drive from Veron, Marchegiani did the same at the other end to keep out Zola. De Goey spilled a Mihajlovic free kick but Lebouef made a fantastic clearance with Inzaghi ready to pounce. Marchegiani flew across goal to keep out a Babayaro header. Nedved once again supplied a perfect cross to Inzaghi but he headed wide. Poyet broke the deadlock when his powerful drive deflected off Mihajlovic.

Boksic powered through as Desailly made a mess of a poor pass from Lebouef, incredibly stayed on his feet despite being pulled but lifted the ball wide of goal with De Goey on the floor. Another missed opportunity for Lazio, Boksic with a fantastic first time cross to Nedved, he killed the ball with his left but shot wide with his right. Lazio were finally rewarded for their persistence when Desailly beat Inzaghi to Nedved's cross but also his own 'keeper. Boksic talked the ref into awarding a free kick for handball, Mihajlovic stepped up and blasted past De Goey. Couto was sent off for a wild lunge on Flo. Petrescu shot across goal, the ball took a deflection off Negro and bounced wide of the post.

A niggly game with lots of cynical fouls. The ref didn't help matters by letting the players get away with kicking the shit out of each other. Chelsea paid the price for taking their foot off the gas after going in front but Lazio were the better team.

Outstanding performances from Nedved and Inzaghi. Zola did his usual choke job in a high pressure match. Chelsea desperately missed the presence of Wise who was rested.

Red Card : Couto 83 (Lazio)

FEYENOORD 1-3 CHELSEA

Zola played a one-two with Poyet, Poyet's awesome return pass was matched by a wonderful volley and subsequent awesome save by Dudek. Van Wonderen body checked Flo in the box, penalty but Dudek saved Lebouef's weakly struck spot kick. Rzasa headed off the line twice. Wise forced Dudek into making a save. Konterman headed a deep cross straight to Zola, he brilliantly killed the ball before crashing a half volley off both posts into the net.

De Goey gifted Feyenoord the equaliser, punching out a pass from Rzasa that was going wide straight to Kalou. Dudek then made another fabulous save from Deschamps, before he shot Di Matteo had cynically taken out Rzasa with an elbow to the jaw. Zola released Babayaro with a beautifully weighted pass, he lofted a cross to the back post and Wise headed in. Minutes later it was all over. Poyet picked out Flo with another wonderful , he ran into the box, brushed aside Van Wonderen and swept the ball into the left corner. De Goey made the save of the night, Hollywood style from a Cruz half volley.

Feyenoord go into their final match a point behind Lazio. They need to win their last match away to hopeless Marseille and hope Chelsea do them a favour and either draw or defeat Lazio.

LAZIO 5-1 MARSEILLE

Inzaghi ran onto a fabulous pass from Nedved and stuck the ball under Porato's legs. Porato made a brilliant save from a close range Inzaghi effort. Marseille had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside. Inzaghi hit Marseille with two goals in two minutes, tapping in from Conceicao's centre and putting away a rebound after Porato brilliantly saved a shot from Boksic.

Leroy powerfully headed in Lazio reject De La Pena's free kick. Inzaghi was then, shock, horror, legitimately hauled down in the box for a penalty by Abardonado. Ironically his spot kick was saved. He then reverted to type and went looking for a penalty, it wasn't given, the ball fell to Conceicao and his shot deflected off Dalmat, by this time Inzaghi had gotten off his arse and turned in for goal number 4. Boksic headed in a deserved goal from Conceicao's cross. Far too easy. Marseille are the worst team left in the competition.

29 FEBRUARY 2000

LAZIO 1-2 FEYENOORD

Simeone blew an open goal from Mihajlovic's corner and was denied again by team-mate Inzaghi as he got in the way of a goal bound shot. Veron played the ball to Sensini on the edge of the box, Sensini chipped the ball back to Veron and he went airborne to volley Lazio into the lead, great finish.

Tomasson came on as a sub in the second half and eventually turned the game in Feyenoord's favour. Boksic ran onto a magnificent Veron pass, out on the touchline he basically did a Puskas, pulling the ball back before releasing a beautifully weight pass for Boksic, he skipped a tackle and with the goal at his mercy shot horribly wide. A terrible waste of a magnificent pass, the action replay looked awesome. Mancini wasted another great chance for Lazio, heading wide a Lombardo cross. Marchegiani made a fantastic reaction save to keep out Cruz. Dudek made a fantastic save to tip over Sensini's header. Marchegiani spilled a shot by Tomasson, Samardzic played the ball back across goal, Couto really should have cleared and Tomasson was left with a routine finish. A shocking header from the usually reliable Sensini gifted Tomasson an opening and he brilliantly placed the ball past Marchegiani.

Probably Veron's best performance of the season, he was off the charts awesome. Once again Lazio shot their load. Incredible match.

7 DECEMBER 1999

FEYENOORD 3-0 MARSEILLE

After 5 minutes Maurice ran onto a longball and was pulled down by Van Wonderen so like a cowardly little shit he pleaded with the ref to produce a card, he complied and showed Van Wonderen a red. Cruz headed wide from Rzasa's cross. Dudek parried Luccin's shot. Paauwe sent Perez reeling with a solid kick to the knee, the officials missed it. Van Gastel picked out Cruz with a fantastic first time pass, he cut inside the box and Rzasa ran onto the ball but shot horribly wide. Great move, shit finish.

Kalou turned Gallas and Fischer inside out but shot weakly at Porato. Fischer was sent off for a clumsy challenge on De Visser. Cruz fired the Dutch into a deserved lead with a fantastic first time strike following great work by Kalou. Luccin fouled Kalou, offered his hand and they and the rest of the players were about to go at it before the ref stepped in. The ref booked both players, he should have gave Luccin a red for such a shite haircut. Speaking of crap haircuts, Perez was sent off for two fouls within a minute. Van Gastel smashed the resulting free kick off the crossbar. Feyenoord then strung together a great passing move Kalou with the finish from Cruz's back heel, Porato tipped the ball onto the crossbar only for Bosvelt to head in the rebound. Kalou had a goal disallowed for offside, Di Visser was booked for diving in the box. Cruz played a one-two with Paauwe, went wide of the keeper and tapped in his second.

Despite the fact that Marseille had a man advantage for the majority of the match they cowardly sat back and seemed content for a draw. Credit to Feyenoord for showing great character and playing some beautiful football. Kalou was fantastic. Cruz is a super finisher but doesn't seem to get involved enough in the build up play.

Red Cards : Van Wonderen 7 (Feyenoord), Fischer 67 (Marseille)
Perez 83 (Marseille)

24 NOVEMBER 1999

CHELSEA 3-1 FEYENOORD

Kalou stung De Goey's palms with a fierce drive. I think it was Feyenoord's only shot on target other than the goal! Poyet's scissor kicked bounced off Van Wonderen to safety, Dudek made a miraculous save to keep out Wise. Flo drew out Konterman, who had been a real thorn in the side for Chelsea, from the centre of defence passed to Petrescu who whipped in a fantastic first time cross and Babayaro powered his header beyond Dudek.

More of the same in the second half. Petrescu headed against the crossbar, Dudek saved brilliantly from Zola and Petrescu had a shot blocked from the rebound, another great save by Dudek from Poyet, Babayaro headed against the post but Flo bundled in the rebound and added another at the second attempt after Dudek once again saved a shot. Cruz intercepted Desailly's hospital pass and slotted the ball beyond De Goey for an ill deserved consolation goal. Chelsea could have scored at least 8 goals and that's no exaggeration.

MARSEILLE 0-2 LAZIO

Arsenal reject Diawara fired a volley wide and had a goal harshly disallowed for offside. Luccin split the Lazio defence with a superb pass, Dugarry spun and weakly shot at goal. Salas latched onto a mistake by the awful Perez (why did Marseille sign him?) and picked out Conceicao with a fine cross but Porato saved brilliantly with his feet. More good play by Salas went un-rewarded, Stankovic blazing over from just outside the box and Conceicao once again wasting a Salas cross.

Mihajlovic picked out Salas with a beautiful long pass but the Chilean weakly shot at Porato. Ravanelli came on for the wasteful Diawara and would have given Marseille the lead but for a superb block from Mihajlovic. Stankovic headed over when unmarked in the box but made amends minutes later with a header from Pancaro's cross. Salas set-up Conceicao again, he missed again but even he couldn't miss minutes later when the Marseille defence stood on the half way line and Salas gifted Conceicao an open goal. It took Marseille almost 90 minutes to test Marchegiani who made a magnificent save to deny Berizzo. Ravanelli volleyed wide in injury time as for some reason the Lazio players lost their heads and picked up a rash of unnecessary bookings. An embarrassingly comfortable display from Lazio. Salas deserved a goal.
