A dreadful mistake by Reinartz gave possession to Soldado on the edge of the Leverkusen penalty area leaving Jonas with the simple task of tapping in his centre. Schurrle levelled after four Valencia defenders ball watched Kadlec's cross. A marvellous pass on the turn from Ballack sent Sam race clear of two defenders and from an angle wide right on goal he curled a shot into the left corner of Alves' net. Brilliant goal.

Meireles hammered in the first with a low 20 yard drive. Torres tucked away a Lampard through ball and bounced a header past a poorly positioned Koteles. Ivanovic headed in the 4th from a Malouda free kick and Kalou tapped in the fifth after Koteles denied Torres a hat-trick with a great point blank save.

The German champions were rocked by an eighth minute header from Holebas. Lewandowski equalised on the counter. Djebbour restored Olympiakos' lead when he danced around a defender and lashed a shot into the left corner. Modesto punished more horrific defending to head in Ibagaza's free kick.

Shirokov missed an 11th minute penalty for the visitors. Willian dropped a shoulder to go past a defender and from the edge of the box curled a right foot into the top corner. Bukharov made one of the assists of the season, curling a ball between two defenders with the outside of his right foot, Shirokov bounced it on his chest to go past Malafeev and managed to squeeze it into an empty net as it seemed destined to roll out of play. Adriano turned onto Rat's wayward shot to give Shakhtar a half time lead but Chyshov slipped when chasing after a square pass across Shakhtar's suicidally high line, made an attempt to swipe the ball away from Fayzulin but missed and Fayzulin beat Rybka with a beautifully weighted lob as the 'keeper ran to the edge.
