FENERBAHCE 0

Attendance : 15,000
Red Card : Maldonado 90 (Fenerbahce)
Assist : Milevski

PORTO 2 (Alves 39, Lopez 54)
ARSENAL 0

The opening goal served as another reminder that Arsenal's achilles heel is defending the set piece. Alves connected with Meireles' inswinging corner with a downward header smack bang in the middle of the penalty box. Djourou, who was supposed to be playing at left back, was caught hopelessly out of position as Lisandro gathered a Fernando pass, ran into the box and finished with an unstoppable shot into the top left corner.

Attendance : 37,602
Assists : Meireles (ck), Fernando

25 November 2008

FENERBAHCE 1 (Alves 63 og)
PORTO 2 (Lisandro 19, Lisandro 28)

Lisandro pounced on a gift from Fenerbahce's briefly brilliant hulking goalkeeper Volkan to give Porto the lead. He should earn a ban for his second goal. He used his arm to bring a throw in under control before beating Volkan after his initial effort was saved. Kazim's speculative shot from 25 yards took a wicked deflection off Bruno Alves past his own goalkeeper. UEFA are seriously idiots, how in the hell is that a goal for the striker?

DYNAMO KYIV 1 (Milevski 21)
PORTO 2 (Rolando 69, Lucho 92)

Milevski beat Helton from the edge of the box with a precise low first time shot, passing the ball into the bottom corner. Centre back Ronaldo threw himself at a Meireles free kick to head in the equaliser. Dynamo hit the woodwork before being mugged on the break. Lisandro Lopes played a one-two with Hulk and despite being forced wide by two defenders crossed to the back post for Lucho to tap past Bogush.

Attendance : 16,000
Assists : Ghioane, Meireles (fk), Lucho

21 October 2008

FENERBAHCE 2 (Silvestre 15 og, Guiza 78)
ARSENAL 5 (Adebayor 10, Walcott 11, Diaby 22, Song 49, Ramsey 94)

Arsenal put their indifferent league form behind them with another sparkling European victory. Walcott and Adebayor toyed with Fenerbahce's offside trap to send Arsenal racing into a two goal lead. Silvestre sliced Guiza's shot past his own goalkeeper but Fenerbahce's hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed when Diaby trapped a long ball and made the most of a lucky bounce off Maldonado to restore Arsenal's two goal lead. Song punished comical set piece defending to thump in a fourth but proved to be less effective at the other end, his wayward header sending Guiza clear. Ramsey combined with Eboue on the edge of the box, finishing with a crisp low drive.

Attendance : 49,521
Assists : Fabregas, Fabregas, n/a, n/a, n/a, Eboue

30 September 2008

ARSENAL 4 (Van Persie 31, Adebayor 40, Van Persie 48, Adebayor 71 Pen)
PORTO 0

Arsenal went route one for the opener. Adebayor headed a Toure longball onto Fabregas, he played it back to the striker who managed to find a generous amount of space between five defenders, he pulled away as two of them made a lame attempt at holding their line and patiently waited for RVP to arrive before centring for the Dutchman to slide into the net. RVN returned the favour with a corner for Arsenal's second. RVP got the faintest of touches to a Walcott pass, flicked it around Bruno Alves, by the time he realised what had happened RVP had already pulled the trigger, 3-0. Walcott and Nasri missed open goals which prompted Wenger to burst out laughing. Someone send him a tape of the Hull City match. Bendtner went down easily under an admittedly stupid challenge by Guarin and Adebayor sent Helton the wrong way from the penalty spot. 4-0 flattered Porto.

Attendance : 59,623
Assists : Adebayor, RVP (ck), Walcott, Bendtner (won pen)

17 September 2008

PORTO 3 (Lisandro 10, Lucho 13, Lino 92)
FENERBAHCE 1 (Guiza 29)

Meireles found Lisandro Lopez with an excellent cross on the turn leaving the forward with an easy volley at the back post. Lucho scored a fantastic second. Lugano, who dwarfs Lisandro, tried to re-enact a scene from Brokeback Mountain but Lisandro spurned his advances and played a ball inside to Rodriguez, he pulled his centre back to the edge of the box and Lucho arrived with such speed both feet left the air as he connected with blistering right foot volley which absolutely flew into the net. Helton made a superb point blank save to deny Helton but Guiza beat him on the rebound.

Fenerbahce should have been awarded a penalty at 2-1 for a foul on Lugano. Hulk, the nickname used by Givanildo Vieira de Souza in much the same way Kaka' plays under his nickname, ran through a sloppy challenge by the normally dependable Lugano and angled a pass between three defenders for Lino, on as an injury time wasting sub, to score with his first touch. Brilliant match.

Attendance : 43,000
Assists : Meireles, Rodriguez, n/a, Hulk

DYNAMO KYIV 1 (Bangoura 64 Pen)
ARSENAL 1 (Gallas 88)

Sagna wrestled Dynamo's Vukojevic to the ground to concede a stupid penalty. Bangoura made Almunia look like a chump, he went down early as the striker fired into his bottom left corner. Arsenal's shit captain, Bill Gallas, came to his teams unlikely rescue. Man of the moment Walcott fired an unplayable centre across the box, Adebayor misskicked and Gallas made sure by driving the ball into net.

Attendance : 20,000
Assists : Vukojevic (won pen), Adebayor
