SCHALKE 3 (Asamoah 12, Rafinha 19, Kuranyi 36)
ROSENBORG 1 (Kone 23)

Rosenborg found the German champions, 0-2 winners in Norway, much tougher opposition than Valencia. They fell behind in the 12th minute to an Asamoah goal. The German international's volley, from a Grossmuller free kick, took a deflection off Strand before agonisingly pulling wide of Hirschfeld's fingertips. Rafinha, who is obviously Brazilian, played a one-two with Kuranyi, cut inside a defender as he ran into the box and beat Hirschfeld at his near post. Tettey got possession out wide on the left after some fantastic one touch passing (no, really), his cross flew over the heads of three defenders leaving Kone to bring the ball under control before shooting past Neuer. Kuranyi brilliantly stepped away from a defender on the edge of the box before beating Hirschfeld' with a precise finish.

Schalke's potential last 16 opponents are Porto, Real Madrid, Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United, Inter, Sevilla or Arsenal. They're praying for Porto. Rosenborg head into the UEFA Cup.

6 November 2007

VALENCIA 0
ROSENBORG 2 (Iversen 31, Iversen 58)

The tiny Riseth sprung a counter attack with Sapara and Iverson in support, Riseth played the ball out wide to Sapara, he passed to Iversen and the former Spurs striker turned his marker before shooting in off a post. Hildebrand was largely to blame for Rosenborg's second, he failed to attack Sapara's corner leaving Iversen with a free header to complete the most unlikely of doubles. Rosenborg hit the woodwork twice and had more shots on goal.

VALENCIA 0

Dorsin took a throw-in on the left wing and as he ran onto Sapara's return pass he flicked the ball Miguel, who he absolutely dwarfs, with his next touch he cut inside Helguera before passing to Kone, as he tried to bring the ball under control it rebounded off a defender and he shot first time through his legs, Canizares tried to clear but the ball hit his right foot before trickling into the net. Riseth headed in Rosenborg's second after Valencia failed to clear a corner.

Needless to say Valencia missed injured David Villa badly.

CHELSEA 2 (Malouda 4, Drogba 47)
SCHALKE 0

Drogba headed a longball out wide to Malouda, he managed to hold off a determined Rafina before hitting a low shot straight at Neuer who made the mistake millions of woman continually make i.e. he forgot to close his legs. Grossmuller scored a brilliant goal but it was disallowed for a marginal offside. Ferreira swung a deep cross into the box and Drogba got in front of his marker to send a header past the poorly positioned Neuer who was officially the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga last season.

3 October 2007

VALENCA 1 (Villa 9)
CHELSEA 2 (Moretti 21 og, Drogba 71)

Ferreira tackled Villa are he made a run on goal, the ball took a deflection off Essien and bounced over Terry and Carvalho, Villa burst into the box and tapped past Cech as he advanced off his line. Seconds after Joaquin wasted a great chance Chelsea equalised. Malouda played a one-two with Drogba, ran between two defenders onto the Ivorian's pass then fired a centre across the box and Moretti turned the ball into his own net before Joe Cole could. Drogba scored the winner on the break. Makelele hacked away a ball into the Chelsea box, Marchena tried to play it back but hit Cole and made a lame appeal for handball as the midfielder turned away before releasing Drogba with a brilliant pass with the outside of his right foot, Drogba held off Albiol and smashed the ball past Hildebrand. Villa and Silva missed excellent chances to equalise and in the fourth minute of injury Baraja was left unmarked on a free kick but scuffed his shot.

SCHALKE 2 (Jones 62, Kuranyi 89)

Rosenborg held out for an hour before a failed offside trap left Jones with a one vs one against Hirschfeld and he shot in off the 'keeper. Kuranyi scored a second on the break. Once again the Rosenborg defence appealed for offside as Kuranyi ran onto a longball out of defence, Basma got back to recover but Kuranyi checked inside before curling the ball into the bottom left corner.

ROSENBORG 1 (Koppinen 24)

Dorsin swung in a deep free kick from the left and Koppinen got goal-side of Terry to lash a left foot volley past Cech which Roman Abramovich and his hot new girlfriend found very amusing. Shevchenko headed in a Malouda cross to rescue a point with an angry Mourinho looking on from the bench.
