Assist machine Lampard ran onto the ball after it was conveniently left for him by Borre, Crespo met his cross with a lovely mid-air volley. Crespo also had a hand in Chelsea's second, he flicked on Lampard's corner and Carvalho lashed a right foot shot into the top corner.

Gerrard dropped a pass over a defender towards Morientes who was standing on the right of the box, he chested the ball down before blasting a half volley in off a post. Luis Garcia scored a second with an amazing flick header from just inside the box, shades of a goal Van Basten scores against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu many years ago. Kewell, who hands down has the worst haircut in football, which takes some doing with Cisse around, overran a pass as he tried to go through two defenders but Cisse pounced to complete an emphatic victory and condemn Anderlecht, the biggest jobbers of all time, to their 11th consecutive defeat.
Kompany didn't play (again). Anderlecht are in no position to ask for a high fee for him, no matter how good he is.

CHELSEA 4-0 REAL BETIS
Chelsea's first two goals were absolute gifts. Varela decided to play a blind pass out of defence, straight to Essien who found Drogba in space on the left
side of the box. Drogba rolled the ball under Doblas and Rivas, who was coming in at some pace couldn't put on the brakes and helped the ball into the net.
Doblas caught a Lampard free kick, took two steps back and dropped the ball at Carvalho's feet, 2-0. Just like super shot in Addidas Power Soccer. Shame on
anyone who actually paid money for that pile crap.
A superbly constructed counter attack ended with Cole placing the ball low inside a post. Lampard sent Wright-Phillips clear down the right flank with a
fantastic 40 yard crossfield pass, SWP hit a first time volleyed pass towards the back post and Crespo powerfully headed into the net.

Betis made the worst possible start on their Champions League debut when they failed to deal with a longball and Pongolle's shot took a wicked deflection off Juanito before looping over the 'keeper. Luis Garcia doubled Liverpool's advantage with a tap-in following good work by Crouch and Zenden. Arzu reduced the arrears after Hyypia was slow to react on a through ball.
