Pizarro mistimed his jump as he tried to attack Deisler's sky high free kick but the ball bounced off his shoulder past Butina. Portillo, still sporting that ridiculous Rod Stewart haircut, beat Kahn with a brilliant right footed shot from the edge of the box.

RAPID VIENNA 1-3 JUVENTUS
Del Piero scored one of the best goals of his career. Wide left 30 odd yards from goal he sent a free kick sailed over the wall before it dropped into the bottom corner. OUTSTANDING. Vieira headed back a goal kick, Del Piero flicked the ball forward and Ibrahimovic intercepted before a defender could clear. He moved the ball to his left foot before hitting an extremely HARD shot past Payer. Three minutes later Del Piero stabbed a wayward Ibrahimovic shot into the net. Kincl tapped in a consolation goal after the Juve defence screwed up a corner.

BAYERN MUNICH 4-0 RAPID VIENNA
Deisler opened the scoring with a shot from distance. Karimi doubled Bayern's lead from a corner. He controlled Schweinsteiger's cross on his chest before hitting a spectacular mid-air volley. Bayern hit Rapid on the break twice to complete an easy victory. Schweinsteiger carried the ball 60 yards before playing in Makaay with a brilliant pass and he found the corner as Payer ran off his line. Makaay's second was almost a carbon copy, this time Demichelis provided the through ball and Payer once again paid the price for coming off his line too early.

JUVENTUS 2-1 BAYERN MUNICH
Nedved, on as a second half substitute for Del Piero, fell in the box after running into Lucio but before anyone could begin their penalty protests Trezeguet had already smashed the ball into the back of the net. Abbiati then did a passable impression of Juve's third choice 'keeper Chimenti when he completely misjudged the bounce on Deisler's free kick. Five minutes from time Trezeguet chested down a lobbed pass from Vieira before volleying into the corner, great finish.

BRUGGE 3-2 RAPID VIENNA
A superb disguised pass sent Dollinger racing down the left flank and Kincl met his first time cross with a great diving header. Brugge equaliser from a corner. Rapid's 'keeper failed to hold Balaban's shot and Portillo (on loan from Real Madrid) scrambled over the line. Brugge hit the front when Balaban's free kick took a wicked deflection off the Rapid wall and Verheyen lobbed in a third after Balaban tore through the heart of the Rapid defence before laying on a pass. Hofmann set up a tense finish with a spectacular header from the edge of the box.

BAYERN 2-1 JUVENTUS
Emerson's attempted clearance hit the ref and Sagnol sized possession. He sprayed the ball out wide to Diesler who went past Zambrotta before hitting a shot straight at Abbiati, he moved too early then froze and the ball bounced off his left knee into the net. With Thuram pre-occupied with Makaay and Cannavaro, for no apparent reason, standing in the middle of the goal Demichelis took advantage to head in Deisler's corner. Makaay wasted four excellent second half chances. Ibrahimovic grabbed a consolation goal after Juve won a series of corners.
So much for my prediction.

I'm going to resist the temptation to say Bayern suck, Lizarazu and Kahn are geriatrics and Ze Roberto has no business playing for Brazil until Juve beat them. Nice stadium though.

JUVENTUS 3-0 RAPID VIENNA
Ibrahimovic sent Zambrotta down the left after some extravagant ball juggling and Trezeguet volleyed into the net. Mutu scored his first official goal for Juventus thanks to weak handling by Rapid 'keeper Payer. Ibrahimovic completed a ridiculously easy victory with a miss-hit volley.

Brugge conceded a free kick on the edge of the D. Nedved sent the ball flying through a gap in the wall and into the bottom corner. Trezeguet ran across the Brugge
defence while they were trying to play offside before darting through the middle onto a peach of pass from Camoranesi and lobbed over Stijnen. Stijnen denied
Ibrahimovic a certain goal with an excellent save at his near post. Yulu-Matondo re-directed Blondel's wild shot past Abbiati. Vieira was sent off for an innocuous
challenge on Englebert Humperdinck, who received a standing ovation at half time for singing his all time biggest hit 'Please Release Me (let me go).' If you go to
