SERIE A ROUND 8

PANCARO SAVES LAZIO

Pancaro scores a late equaliser at Inter to keep Lazio's unbeaten run
intact. Fiorentina's home misery continues as Batistuta misses a penalty
but Balbo rescues a point. Roma and Milan are held to draws allowing Juve
to consolidate their 2nd place.

30 OCTOBER 1999

FIORENTINA 1-1 TORINO
Balbo 89 Sommese 79

Silenzi, Batistuta and Rui Costa missed relatively easy chances. Batistuta
hit the crossbar. Rui Costa won a penalty which Batistuta launched high
into the stands. Sommese lashed a low shot past Toldo from Ferrante's
delightful rolled pass. Balbo glanced in Firicano's scissor kick.

VENEZIA 0-1 BOLOGNA
							Bilica 12 (og)

Bilica headed a throw in past his own 'keeper. Maniero's penalty rebounded
off a post.

Red Card(s) : Cardone 76 (Venezia)

INTER 1-1 LAZIO
Blanc 54 Pancaro 89

Inter broke the deadlock following a great one touch passing move involving
Blanc, Jugovic and Sousa, Zamorano fired a low shot past Marchegiani. Salas
was booked for diving, should happen every match. Blanc had a header
disallowed, not sure why and Zamorano wasted a great chance to make the
game safe when he headed against the post from Zanetti's perfect cross.
Pancaro won the free kick from which he scored Lazio's equaliser, Veron
launched the ball into the box, it deflected off Zamorano and Pancaro
poked in the rebound.

31 OCTOBER 1999

JUVENTUS 1-0 PIACENZA
Del Piero 76 (Pen)

Davids returned wearing shades due to his glaucoma. Piacenza had the best
two early chances, Van der Sar pulled off an amazing save to deny Mazzola.
Roma kept out Inzaghi. Inzaghi shot against the crossbar and Davis struck
the post from the rebound. Roma made another great save to deny Bachini.
Davids hit the crossbar again before Birindelli threw himself to the floor,
Del Piero and Inzaghi must have taken the day off, penalty. Del Piero
converted. Davids was awesome.

LECCE 0-1 PERUGIA
							Olive 69

Inevitably Nakata had a hand in Perugia's goal, Olive scored from his cross.
It's a good job Nakata and Mazzantini have started this season so well as
Rapajic has been anonymous. Mazzantini rescued Perugia at the death with a
Hollywood save from Lucarelli.

Attendance : 14,968

ROMA 2-2 CAGLIARI
Montella 2 Oliveira 15
Delvecchio 39 Mboma 85 (Pen)

Both teams and all the officials stepped onto the pitch wearing crash
helmets, don't know why. Yes, they did take them off before starting.
Montella scored his 2nd goal for Roma with a fantastic volley from
Assuncao's free kick. Roma's trademark offside trap, I knew Capello's
arrival would change little in that department, gifted Oliveira the
equaliser. Delvecchio headed in Totti's corner. Scarpi denied Totti twice
with great saves. I haven't got a clue why Oliveira was sent off. Mayele
dived over Antonioli to win a penalty, Mboma converted. Roma probably would
have been awarded at least one penalty of their own had their players not
thrown themselves to the floor when breathed on in the box.

Red Card(s) : Oliveira 72 (Cagliari)
Attendance : 54,357

UDINESE 3-2 REGGINA
Poggi 31, 80 Kallon 56
Fiore 73 Possanzini 87

A neat passing move led to Poggi's first, a tap-in from Fiore's cross. Sosa
missed a sitter. Kallon was gifted a run in on goal when Zanchi fresh air
kicked a pass, Kallon beat Turci. Fiore curled in a free kick. Poggi ran
onto Locatelli's through pass, headed down the ball and turned a defender
inside out before firing a low shot past the 'keeper. Pirlo picked out
Possanzini with an beautiful chipped pass and he lifted the ball over Turci.
I've finally figured out why so many people have been raving about Pirlo,
he's awesome.

Attendance : 18,000

VERONA 0-0 MILAN

Helveg should have been sent off for a dirty foul on Colucci. A hospital
pass by N'Gotty gifted Adailton a great chance but he screwed his shot wide.
What happened to Adailton? He's never fulfilled the promised he showed in
the 1997 World Youth Cup. Leonardo wasted two great chances in the first
half, attempting extravagant half volleys instead of bringing down the ball
and shooting. Frey was only troubled once, from Boban's corner. Boban wasted
a great chance when put through by Serginho and Bierhoff wasted two
admittedly tough headers.

Attendance : 25,000

PARMA 2-1 BARI
Masinga 5 (og) Innocenti 82
Innocenti 28 (og)

Parma were awarded a dodgy first goal when Mancini brilliantly cleared
Cannavaro's deflected shot off Masinga. Innocenti was helpless as Di Vaio's
shot took a deflection off him into an empty net. Masinga headed against
the crossbar, Innocenti smashed in a low free kick to set up a tense finish.
