Serie A Round 4

Despite a miserable performance Fiorentina steal a victory over Udinese thanks
to Edmundo's injury time winner. Inter gain their third successive victory with a
comfortable display against Perugia. Parma continue to struggle but Lazio finally
grab their first win of the season.

4 October 1998

BOLOGNA 0-0 PARMA

Chiesa blew Parma's best chance. How a joke like Chiesa gets picked for Italy I'll
never know. Parma have scored one league goal in 4 games. If Malesani doesn't
address Parma's impotent attack (I refuse to do a Viagra joke) soon they're
destined for a mid-table finish.

Attendance : 26,229
Red Card(s) : Eriberto 62 (Bologna)

FIORENTINA 1-0 UDINESE
Edmundo 92

Edmundo picked up the ball in midfield, charged towards goal, played a one two
with Rui Costa and was left with an easy finish when Turci dived early.

Fiorentina finally played like a typical Trap side, mind numbingly boring defensive
football. Udinese overpowered Fiorentina's weak midfield at will but were unable
to create many clear cut chances thanks to some ruthless defending by hatchet
men Torricelli and Repka.

Attendance : 33,795

INTER 2-0 PERUGIA
Zamorano 11
Djorkaeff 54

Djorkaeff headed a deflected cross into Zamorano's path and he duly obliged with a
brilliant volley into the left hand side of the net. Djorkaeff was left with an easy
header when Roccati spilled Moriero's long range shot. Nakata was restricted to a
tame shot and one defence splitting pass which was dealt with by Bergomi. No
Ronaldo, Baggio or Ventola but Inter where still too strong for Perugia.

JUVENTUS 1-0 PIACENZA
Inzaghi 8

Attendance : 45,193
Red Card(s) : Rizzitelli 90 (Piacenza)

Inzaghi headed in Del Piero's free kick. Piacenza then made a mockery of Juve's
sorry excuse for a defence but were unable to find a way past Rampulla. Juve
regained control but were let down by some poor finishing. Both 'keepers pulled
off several great saves. Del Piero looks half the player he was last season. Zidane
was anonymous. Rizzitelli was sent off for protesting over a non penalty.

LAZIO 2-0 CAGLIARI
Couto 49
Stankovic 69

Couto headed in Mihajlovic's free kick and Stankovic was left with a tap-in
following a great run by Salas.

Almeyda played his best ever game in a Lazio shirt but that doesn't say much
because he is a terrible player. Mihajlovic was once again at the heart of Lazio's
best football. He should be switched to central midfield where his average
defending will not be a problem. As terrible as I think Couto is as a defender he
is Bierhoff standard in the air.

Attendance : 35,000
Red Card(s) : O'Neill 55 (Cagliari)

SALERNITANA 1-1 EMPOLI
Breda 7 Lucenti 33

Breda met Di Vaio's cross with a magnificent dipping volley, fabulous goal. Empoli
made a balls up of a cross and Lucenti rifled the ball into the roof of the net.

Attendance : 30,350

VENEZIA 0-2 MILAN
							Bierhoff 3
							Leonardo 67

Luppi was stretchered off after he took Leonardo's shot full in the face, poor
bastard. Bierhoff headed in Leonardo's corner and then repeated the favour with
the pass for Leonardo's third goal of the season.

Venezia controlled the game so much it was not funny. Lehmann pulled off three
miracle saves, in the Pagliuca class. Other than the two goals Milan didn't
threaten.

Attendance : 13,500
Red Card(s) : Iachini 67 (Venezia)

VICENZA 1-0 BARI
Otero 16

Otero headed in Schenardi's free kick.

Attendance : 16,000

SAMPDORIA 2-1 ROMA
Palmieri 61 Delvecchio 26
Jacopino 75

A slick passing move involving Paulo Sergio, Totti and Tommasi was finished off
by Delvecchio. In the 58th minute Zeman substituted Totti. Delvecchio was denied
what looked a certain second goal thanks to an incredible save by Ferron. Palmieri
headed in Ortega's free kick. Ortega won a free kick, Jacopino curled it into the
net. Roma's first defeat of the season and a much need 3 points for Sampdoria.

Red Card(s) : Aldair 94 (Roma)
