Serie A Round 28

Roma hammer Lazio in a typically explosive Rome derby. Milan hit back from
a goal down to defeat Parma in the game of the season. Fiorentina are denied
a crucial 3 points thanks to Guerrero's late equaliser for Bari. Inter crash
2-0 away to Salernitana, despite Ronaldo and Zamorano. Juve need a late
equaliser from Di Livio to avoid defeat against Bologna.

11 April 1999

CAGLIARI 1-2 UDINESE
Kallon 81 Jorgensen 43
							Walem 60

Jorgensen headed in Genaux's cross. Walem curled in a free kick. Kallon
finished brilliantly from O'Neill's knock down. O'Neill struck the crossbar
from a free kick, Scarpi pulled off several great saves for Cagliari.

Attendance : 20,000

FIORENTINA 2-2 BARI
Rui Costa 40 Osmanovski 65
Padalino 72 Guerrero 88

Rui Costa swapped passes with Torricelli on the wing, charged into the box
and hammered a diagonal shot into the far corner of the net. Osmanovski
equalised with a stunning half volley. Padalino headed in Rui Costa's cross.
Fiorentina wasted several chances to clear a cross, the ball fell to
Guerrero who blasted a shot into the roof of the net. Mareggini had a
stinker of a game in goal for Fiorentina.

Attendance : 32,010

JUVENTUS 2-2 BOLOGNA
Inzaghi 16 Kolyvanov 33
Di Livio 81 Cappioli 51

Inzaghi scored from Deschamps cross. Juve were awarded a penalty for a
dangerous challenge in the box by Ingesson. Antonioli saved Inzaghi's
penalty. A route one classic and Bologna were level, Antonioli launched a
goal kick, Andersson headed on and Kolyvanov fired past Peruzzi. Bologna
went ahead from a counter attack, Cappioli with a nice first time finish
from Kolyvanov's pass. Di Livio headed in Esnaider's cross. Juve's
defending was woeful.

Attendance : 45,459

MILAN 2-1 PARMA
Maldini 59 Balbo 38
Ganz 73

Giunti struck the crossbar. Abbiati pulled off several great saves before
being beaten by Balbo's cross/shot at the near post. Weah looked set to
equalise before Benarrivo snatched the ball off him with a miraculous
tackle. Cannavaro made a similar goal saving tackle to deny Boban early
in the second half. Maldini scored a brilliant equaliser, blasting in from
Giunti's free kick he then raced down the pitch to deny Veron an immediate
equaliser with another stunning tackle. Guly fired over with an open goal
begging after Ganz had been denied by another great tackle, this time by
Buffon. Ganz raced onto a magnificent through pass from Boban, flicked the
ball past Buffon and just managed to beat Cannavaro to the ball and slid
into an empty net. Abbiati denied Stanic with an incredibly brave/incredibly
stupid challenge.

Veron was the pick of an outstanding first half display by Parma. Zac
substituted Bierhoff for Ganz in the second half and it seemed to lift a
heavy weight off the team's shoulders. No longer having to supply Bierhoff
with crosses they played Parma off the pitch with some great football.
Giunti outdid Ambrosini for workrate in midfield, Maldini turned back the
clock 5 years, Boban was magnificent but it was Weah and Ganz who changed
the game, that and the substitution of Thuram. An interesting dilemma for
Zac. Clearly he needs to vary Milan's tactics so that they do not rely so
heavily on Bierhoff. Did I mention the great tackling? Best game of
football in Serie A this season, get a tape of this match, it's a must see.

Attendance : 65,000

PIACENZA 2-0 PERUGIA
Lamacchi 90
S Inzaghi 96

Lippi was at the match, possibly watching Nakata or Inzaghi. Inzaghi should
have been sent off for an elbow on Ripa. Rizzitelli was sent off for an
off the ball challenge. Perugia made a mess of Stroppa's free kick, Lamacchi
turned and shot past Mazzantini. Boskov walked off and missed Inzaghi's
brilliant second goal for Piacenza.

Red Card(s) : Rizzitelli 88 (Piacenza)
Attendance : 10,000

SALERNITANA 2-0 INTER
Di Michele 9
Giampaolo 90

Di Michele ran onto a superb through ball and shot past Frey, still in goal
for Pagliuca. Salernitana should have won a penalty when Frey hauled down
Di Michele in the box. Both teams had goals disallowed for offside, Ronaldo
and Gattuso respectively. Giampaolo raced onto Di Vaio's brilliant pass to
complete Inter's misery. Inter are like women drivers, they shouldn't be on
the road! (That's a joke). Don't why Zamorano was sent off. It could be
argued that at least a few Inter players made an effort in their 4-0 defeat
to Samp but in this match other than Ronaldo no one tried.

Red Card(s) : Zamorano 93 (Inter)
Attendance : 40,000

SAMPDORIA 2-1 VENEZIA
Montella 5 (Penalty) Valtolina 52
Cate 71

Samp were awarded a penalty for handball, Montella converted. Valtolina
broke from midfield, rode several tackles and chipped the ball over Ferron.
Cate scored thanks to a clever pass by Laigle.

Attendance : 19,000

VICENZA 2-0 EMPOLI
Negri 50
Otero 73

Negri scored from Dicara's rebound. Empoli made a mess of Zauli's cross
and Otero was left to head in from close range.

Attendance : 15,000
Red Card(s) : Camara 90 (Empoli)

ROMA 3-1 LAZIO
Delvecchio 12, 42 Vieri 78
Totti 90

Delvecchio scored a magnificent first goal, running 50yds, turning
Mihajlovic inside out and blasting a shot high and handsome past
Marchegiani. Delvecchio poked in Totti's cross despite Nesta being all
over him in the box. Vieri was gifted a goal when Konsel spilled a
speculative shot by Nedved. Paulo Sergio and Mihajlovic were sent off
for fighting. Nesta was sent off for bringing down Di Francesco when
through on goal. Alenichev abused Lazio in the box, the ball broke to
Totti who smashed his shot against Pancaro and scored from the rebound,
albeit via handball.

Red Card(s) : Paulo Sergio 70 (Roma), Mihajlovic 70 (Lazio),
Nesta 80 (Lazio)
Attendance : 75,560
