Serie A Round 24

Fiorentina defeat Parma in a thrilling encounter, Lazio hammer Salernitana, Milan
keep up the pressure with another single goal victory, this time over Piacenza and
Roma are screwed by some awful refereeing away to Udinese.

7 March 1999

BARI 1-0 INTER
Osmanovski 43

Inter with without Baggio and Ronaldo but still had the better of the game.
Osmanovski dived low to head in De Ascentis' cross. Ventola had a goal bound
header cleared, Ze Elias flashed a shot wide with an open goal begging and
Zamorano blew a one on one with Mancini. Masinga went close with a header.
Bari's fourth successive league victory over Inter.

BOLOGNA 2-1 VENEZIA
Andersson 73 Maniero 25 (pen)
Signori 86

Marangon won a penalty with an over the top dive, how the ref justified awarding
a penalty is beyond me. Maniero converted. After hitting the crossbar twice,
Andersson headed in Binotto's cross and Binotto set up Signori for the winner
with a long punt into the box, Signori profited from non marking and picked his
spot. For once Recoba had no influence on the game.

Attendance : 28,000

CAGLIARI 1-0 VICENZA
De Patre 24

De Patre headed in Vasari's cross. Muzzi continued to miss chances.

Red Card(s) : Brivio 74 (Vicenza)
Attendance : 20,000

FIORENTINA 2-1 PARMA
Oliveira 43 Stanic 64
Rui Costa 55 (penalty)

Crespo blew two great early chances and Toldo somehow managed to keep out
a close range strike by Chiesa. Oliveira blasted Fiorentina into the lead with a
free kick, Buffon horribly misjudged the flight of the ball, even if it bounced
awkwardly. Crespo continued to miss chances in the 2nd half. Rui Costa
converted a penalty awarded when Esposito fell over in the box, Buffon didn't
help by charging out of his goal. Stanic turned in Thuram's low cross at the near
post. Fiorentina tore through Parma's defence on the counter attack and Oliveira
wasted two chances to increase their lead. Toldo made a great save to deny
Dino Baggio, Fuser and Stanic went close. Parma had the possession and the
chances but failed to capitalise. Batistuta is expected to return for Fiorentina
next week. This was the first of Parma's crucial away tests against the big guns
and they blew it.

Attendance : 33,967

LAZIO 6-1 SALERNITANA
Negro 43 Vanucchi 30
Vieri 50
Salas 61, 68
Fresi 81 (own goal)
Netsa 90

Vanucchi headed in Kolousek's free kick. Bolic dropped a Mihajlovic cross, Negro
tapped in the equaliser. As the Salernitana defence stood still waiting for the ref
to award a free kick for a foul in their penalty box, Salas and Pancaro set-up
Vieri for a tap-in. Salas helped himself to two tap-ins thanks to crosses by Vieri
and the ever impressive Conceicao. Fresi deflected Baronio's shot past his own
'keeper and Nesta volleyed in Conceicao's corner. Nice scoreline shame about the
basic football.

Attendance : 50,000

MILAN 1-0 PIACENZA
Bierhoff 42

Leonardo knocked himself out following a clash of heads with Vierchowod, Ganz
came on in his place. Bierhoff headed straight at the 'keeper from point blank
range and Abbiati was quick off his line to deny Inzaghi after he was played in by
Costacurta's hospital pass. Bierhoff eventually headed in Guly's lofted pass.
Albertini seemed to pull a hamstring, strange considering he never runs, hope
he's out for 6 years, Donadoni came on as a replacement. Polonia was sent off
for a love tap on Morfeo. Abbiati once again denied Inzaghi with a great save,
Morfeo struck the post and Bierhoff blew a great chance created by Boban's
outrageous chip. Ganz wasted another decent opportunity again created by Boban.
Guly and Boban had super games, Abbiati continues to look solid, well as solid as
Rossi, in goal.

Red Card(s) : Polonia 54 (Piacenza)
Attendance : 45,000

PERUGIA 3-1 EMPOLI
Tedesco 47 Zalayeta 7
Petrachi 54
Bucchi 74

Zalayeta ran from the halfway line, created himself an opening and finished at the
second attempt after his initial shot was blocked. He went close with a drive from
outside the box but after that it was all Perugia. Bucchi had a goal wrongly
disallowed for offside. Sereni made a balls up of Nakata's cross and Kaviedes
poked the ball back for Tedesco to smash home the equaliser. Rapajic fired in a
shot from outside the box, the ball cannoned off Nakata into the path of Petrachi
who slotted past Sereni and the 'keepers misery continued as he blocked Nakata's
shot but Bucchi was on hand to put away the rebound.

Attendance : 15,000

UDINESE 2-1 ROMA
Jorgensen 83 Fabio Junior 28
Amoroso 88 (penalty)

Fabio Junior benefited from Gautieri's miss-controlled pass and fired Roma into
the lead. Amoroso won a penalty with a lame dive but ballooned his shot over
the bar. Poggi ran onto Tomassi's hospital pass and shot straight at Chimenti
who seemed to have held the shot but inexplicably spilled it straight to Jorgensen
to whack in the equaliser. Genaux crossed, the ball struck Aldair outside the box
but not only did the ref award a penalty he also sent off Aldair for what a blind
man would term handball. Shameful, shameful refereeing. Amoroso made no
mistake second time round.

Red Card(s) : Aldair 88 (Roma)
Attendance : 18,000

SAMPDORIA 1-2 JUVENTUS
Ortega 63 Amoruso 74
							Inzaghi 90

Laigle had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half. Ortega curled in a
free kick. Amoruso killed Deschamps cross on his chest and fired a stunning half
volley high past Ferron and Inzaghi won the match with a great first time finish
from Amoruso's pass. Both teams created plenty of chances but Juve looked the
better team.
