Serie A Round 23

Juve show signs of recovery as they hold Inter to a goal-less draw at the San Siro.
Piacenza hammer Bologna thanks to a ridiculous 3 penalties. Milan blow a chance
to go top, albeit briefly, as they are defeated by Paulo Sergio's goal for Roma.
Fiorentina and Lazio needs late goals to grab a draw and win respectively and
it's a good weekend for Parma as they go joint 2nd with Fiorentina after Chiesa
inspires them to victory over Perugia.

27 February 1999

ROMA 1-0 MILAN
P Sergio 64

For the second time this season Helveg delivered a great cross, Leonardo headed
wide and also had a shot magnificently cleared off the line by Tomassi and Sala
also cleared off the line from Delvecchio. Roma were the only team that
threatened in the second half and after Di Francesco blew a shot from 6 yards and
Totti struck a free kick against the crossbar Paulo Sergio won the match with a
header from Totti's cross.

Attendance : 63,944

PIACENZA 5-0 BOLOGNA
S Inzaghi 20, 37 & 86 (pens)
Rastelli 43
Piovani 84 (pen)

A criminal display of refereeing condemned Bologna to a heavy defeat. Inzaghi and
Statuto won two penalties with shameful dives both converted by Inzaghi. Rastelli
was gifted a penalty when a Mangone played him in with a treacherous hospital
pass and he fell over Antonioli, such stupidity deserves to be punished but Inzaghi
blew the spot kick. Rastelli headed in Stroppa's free kick. Boselli was sent off for
going through Rastelli. Piovani converted another penalty won for handball and
Inzaghi scored a fine goal after some nice ball juggling.

Red Card(s) : Boselli 51 (Bologna)
Attendance : 11,000

PARMA 3-1 PERUGIA
Chiesa 31 (pen), 44 Bucchi 60
Crespo 81

Balbo was tripped in the box (I'm feeling generous), Chiesa converted. Vanoli, no
I don't know who he is either, whipped a superb first time cross into the box and
Chiesa blasted a volley past Mazzantini. Great goal. Bucchi's shot deflected off a
Parma player past Buffon and Perugia's fat bastard president Gaucci was shown
celebrating wildly, although that could be because the clown Asprilla had just
come on the pitch. Crespo grabbed a goal from Fuser's free kick.

Attendance : 23,000

INTER 0-0 JUVENTUS

Only thing of note from the first half was some moron in the stands trying to blind
Pagliuca with those laser pens. Juve had the better chances, Birindelli forcing
Pagliuca to save from a wide angle and Henry blazing wide when after good work
on the edge of the box. Baggio's best moment was a great through ball for
Ventola who was denied by Peruzzi's trademark idiot charge off his line. Ferrara
headed over from a corner and Inzaghi blew a late one on one with Pagliuca. Poor
game but Juve should be ecstatic with the point given Inter's recent home form.

Attendance : 80,372

BARI 1-1 CAGLIARI
D Andersson 83 (pen) Neqrouz 81 (og)

Not sure who's shot deflected off Neqrouz past Mancini for the opening goal. Bari
were awarded a penalty when Macellari kneed Zambrotta in the face. Andersson
equalised from the spot. Mancini pulled off a brilliant save to deny Muzzi late in
the match.

Attendance : 18,000

EMPOLI 0-1 SAMPDORIA
							Pecchia 33

Pecchi earned a much needed three points with a super first time strike from
Ortega's through pass. Both teams created and spurned numerous chances.

Attendance : 16,330

SALERNITANA 1-1 FIORENTINA
Di Vaio 75 Torricelli 86

Di Vaio won a penalty, Bernardini spooned the shot against the crossbar. Di Vaio
gave Salernitana a deserved lead with a fantastic strike, taking the ball on his
chest and firing past Toldo. Torricelli equalised from Heinrich's cross.

Attendance : 33,000

VENEZIA 1-0 UDINESE
Recoba 83 (pen)

Udinese's away kit is a nice shade of puke/piss orange. Once again it was the
Recoba show, after going close on several occasions he converted a penalty won
for handball.

VICENZA 1-2 LAZIO
Cardone 67 Conceicao 48
							Mihajlovic 90

There was a nasty clash of heads between Stovini and Favalli which drew colour.
Otero had a goal disallowed for offside, I estimate that over the last two seasons
Vicenza must have had somewhere in the region of 20 goals disallowed and that's
no bullshit. Conceicao volleyed in from wide of goal, Nedved cleared a shot off the
line but failed to repeat the trick minutes later as Cardone headed in a corner.
Aurelio tried to maim Salas in the box, his penalty was superbly saved. Stankovic
was sent off for no reason whatsoever, I think the ref was supposed to send off
Negro. Pancaro had a goal disallowed as he headed in from a corner despite having
his shirt tugged, yes it's another of those decisions that make no sense. Mihajlovic
whacked in a free kick.

Red Card(s) : Stankovic 82
