Serie A Round 21

Lazio fail to make it 10 wins in a row but go top virtue of Fiorentina's loss
at Udinese. Juve record their best win of the season away at Piacenza. Roma
end their slump with victory over Sampdoria, Milan go to within two points of
top spot but Inter slip further away from the chasing pack going down away to
Perugia.

14 February 1999

BARI 0-0 VICENZA

Aurelio was sent off for scything challenge from behind on Zambrotta. Dicara
had a goal disallowed for pushing. Mancini pulled off several good saves to
deny Vicenza late in the game.

Red Card(s) : Aurelio 40 (Vicenza)
Attendance : 17,000

CAGLIARI 0-0 LAZIO

An insipid first half was followed by a marginally better second. Muzzi beat
Salas hands down in the diving contest but to be fair should have been
awarded a penalty when he was flattened by Marchegiani.

Attendance : 25,000

EMPOLI 2-3 SALERNITANA
Cerbone 31 Di Vaio 33, 68, 82
Bonomi 92 (penalty)

Cerbone headed in Di Napoli's free kick. Di Vaio raced away to score his first
after Bisoli horribly mis-controlled a long ball. Sereni pulled off an unreal save
from Di Vaio's volley. Di Vaio made it 2-0 with a well taken goal, controlling
Rossi's cross off his chest and firing past Sereni. In a truly bizarre incident
Del Gross was standing next to the linesman and then hit the deck clutching his
face. Di Vaio completed his hat-trick as the Empoli defence stood still appealing
for offside. Empoli were awarded a penalty when Monaco headed a cross out for
a corner and if that doesn't make sense neither does Monaco's dive after the ref
love tapped him as his dismissed Monaco's complaints, I've seen it all now, players
feigning injury after contact with officials. What's next? A penalty being awarded
for a dive by a linesman? No that doesn't make sense but then neither did this
game. Bonomi converted the penalty. If Di Vaio took half his chances he would
have scored 6 goals. Don't pass up the opportunity to watch this game just
remember to switch off your brain.

Attendance : 6,716

MILAN 2-1 VENEZIA
Guly 39 Tuta 70
Ganz 53

Ziege was substituted early in the first half, he either lost his contact lenses or
was suffering from blurred vision. Sala headed on Leonardo's corner and Guly
poked in from close range. Ganz headed in Ba's fabulous cross. Tuta headed in
Volpi's free kick. Abbiati spilled what should have been a routine cross but,
fortunately for Milan, Maniero's overhead kick sailed over the post. Bilica was
sent off for a nothing challenge on Bierhoff. Ba cleared off the line as Milan hung
on for the win. Bierhoff was throwing himself to the floor whenever a Venezia
player was close, sad that a player as big as Bierhoff is such a fanny (pussy to
you Americans).

Red Card(s) : Bilica 80 (Venezia)
Attendance : 50,000

PERUGIA 2-1 INTER
Kaviedes 16 Djorkaeff 95 (pen)
Rapajic 78

Kaviedes poked in from Rapajic's free kick. Olive was sent off for a clumsy
challenge on Djorkaeff. Inter piled forward but Mazzantini (ex-Inter?) pulled
off several impossible saves to deny Simeone and Djorkaeff twice each, his
shorts were so tight I'm surprised he could move at all but maybe that's his
secret? Kaviedes blew two glorious chances as Perugia tore through Inter's
offside trap but Rapajic scored a deserved second when played through by
Colonnello. Ventola threw himself to the ground in the box, Djorkaeff
converted the penalty. If Inter play offside on the half way line next week
against Lazio they'll get murdered.

Red Card(s) : Olive 57 (Perugia)
Attendance : 25,000

PIACENZA 0-2 JUVENTUS
							Manighetti 45 (og)
							Birindelli 96

Mirkovic's shot deflected off Manighetti for Juve's first. Birindelli scored
Juve's second thanks to a fantastic pass from Deschamps. Juve created the
best chances and looked impressive.

Attendance : 18,000

ROMA 3-1 SAMPDORIA
Fabio Junior 10 Lassissi 15
Paulo Sergio 84, 88

Fabio Junior scored his first goal for Roma from a great pass by Alenichev.
Lassissi also scored his first goal in Serie A, latching onto a pathetic
clearance by Candela from a corner and slamming in from close range.
Ferron went off injured after a cynical late challenge from Di Francesco.
Lassissi cleared Totti's shot off his goal-line. Paulo Sergio came on in
place of Delvecchio who seems to miss more chances each week and won the
game for Roma turning in Cafu's cross and then profiting from Tomassi's
shot.

Attendance : 52,715

UDINESE 1-0 FIORENTINA
Sosa 80

Capello was sat next to Checci Gori in the stands. Fiorentina started
brightly but began to crumble as the match wore on, Toldo keeping them in the
game with a string of brilliant saves, one save from Amoroso in the second
half was so damn good it looks even better every time you watch it. Turci
pulled off a brilliant save from Padalino's header. Locatelli stole the ball
off Repka and played a couple of one-two's with Sosa who smashed the ball
high and handsome past Toldo. Cois was sent off for a late challenge on
Locatelli.

Red Card(s) : Cois 87 (Fiorentina)
Attendance : 25,000

PARMA 1-1 BOLOGNA
Stanic 91 Kolyvanov 23

A fantastic cross from Fontolan was chested down and smashed past Buffon by
Kolyvanov although Cannavaro should have cleared. Parma peppered Bologna's
goal and eventually broke through when Stanic headed in Chiesa's free kick,
minutes earlier Marocchi blew the best chance of the match when set up by
Binotto. Not sure why Veron was sent off.

Red Card(s) : Veron 92 (Parma)
