Serie A Round 16

Balbo and Zamorano grab hat-tricks in 6 goals victories for Parma and Inter
respectively. Lazio's defeat of Fiorentina in the evening match leaves Parma
top on goal difference. Roma slip up away to Cagliari, Juve's league woes
continue with a draw at home to Bari and Milan need a late goal from Ziege
to rescue a point away to Empoli.

CAGLIARI 4-3 ROMA
Muzzi 2, 62 Delvecchio 27, 41
O'Neill 47, 89 Gautieri 79

Macellari's cross was dipping into goal before Chimenti clawed the ball out
to Muzzi who headed into an empty net. Delvecchio headed in Tommasi's
deflected cross. Delvecchio pounced on a rebound from Paulo Sergio's shot to
put Roma 2-1 up. A hospital pass of the highest level of treachery by Tommasi
was deservedly punished by O'Neill. Muzzi put Cagliari in-front, finishing easily
from a rude Cavezzi pass. Cagliari hit the post twice in succession. Quadrini
centred a cross for Gautieri's to score the equaliser. O'Neill won the match with
an easy header thanks to great work by Vasari. Only Roma could score 3 goals
away from home and still loose. Their defending was laughable and Cagliari
could have easily scored 8 goals.

EMPOLI 1-1 MILAN
Di Napoli 58 Ziege 83

Both teams had penalty appeals turned down, Empoli for a 'foul' by Albertini on
Di Napoli and Milan for a push by Baldini on Bierhoff. Guly smashed a shot against
the crossbar. Ganz appeared to have given Milan the lead when he scrambled a
shot over the goal-line from close range. The ref awarded a goal and then chalked
it off following a word with his linesman. The replays showed he made the right
decision. Di Napoli gave Empoli the lead with a superb curling shot from close
range. Ziege equalised from a goalmouth scramble.

Red Card : Ziege 84 (Milan)

INTER 6-2 VENEZIA
Ronaldo 3 (penalty), 72 Maniero 19, 90
Baggio 24
Zamorano 28, 40, 47

Ronaldo converted a penalty awarded for handball. Maniero equalised with a
fantastic volley. A one touch passing move between Simeone, Ronaldo and
Zamorano was finished off by Baggio. Zamorano helped himself to a hat-trick
thanks to Ronaldo and Baggio. Ronaldo scored from a quickly taken free kick and
Maniero was left with an easy finish from a rebound.

JUVENTUS 1-1 BARI
Davids 48 Andersson 76

Zidane was presented with the Golden Ball before the start of the match. Inzaghi
and Fonseca went close in the first half before Davids gave Juve the lead after
turning in Pessotto's cross. Peruzzi did one of his trademark rushes off his
goal-line and flattened Bressan in the box. Andersson converted the penalty.
Peruzzi has been getting away with this type of shit for far too long and he should
have been sent off. Inzaghi blew a glorious chance minutes later.

Attendance : 44,630

PERUGIA 1-3 UDINESE
Nakata 67 Pierini 21
							Matrecano 39 (og)
							Sosa 90

A fantastic Jorgensen free kick was headed in by Pierini, the pace and curl was
unreal. Amoroso's shot took a deflection off Matrecano. I was under the
impression that this season even if a shot was deflected the player who had the
initial shot would be credited with the goal. Nakata punished a slack clearance
from a corner with a fantastic left foot volley. Sosa made the game safe with a
great looping header from Giannichedda's free kick.

PIACENZA 3-6 PARMA
S Inzaghi 17, 75 (pen) Cristallini 13 (og)
Cristallini 56 Balbo 51, 63, 65
							Fuser 67
							Crespo 83

Boghossian's shot took a deflection off Cristallini on it's way to goal. Rastelli
turned Thuram inside out (and there's not many players who manage to do that)
and passed to Inzaghi for an easy finish. Balbo scored his first league goal thanks
to Chiesa's pass and a sorry attempt at goalkeeping from Fiore. Cristallini headed
Piacenza level from Stroppa's cross. Balbo once again benefited from Fiori's glue
like hands when his speculative shot slipped though the 'keepers fingers and he
completed his hat-trick thanks to a cross by Fuser. Fuser helped himself to a goal
with a piledriver from Veron's corner. Inzaghi won and converted a penalty.
Crespo scored Parma's sixth thanks to pressing by Veron. Needless to say an
awesome performance by Parma considering Piacenza's superb home record.
The Italian commentator called it a festival of goals.

SAMPDORIA 1-1 BOLOGNA
Palmieri 63 Signori 13

Signori blasted Bologna into the lead with a 35yd free kick. Samp ploughed
forward and Montella blew an unmissable chance, he ran onto a long ball, chipped
the ball over the advancing Antonioli and with an open goal begging for it he
headed wide. Palmieri gave Samp a deserved equaliser, cushioning a Franceschetti
pass off his chest and tapping the ball into goal. Paganin was harshly sent off for
what could loosely be termed an elbow. Lassissi was once again very impressive
but this time he didn't try to randomly maim the opposition players and gave a
composed display. I will be very surprised if Parma don't use him next season, he
seems the ideal replacement for Benarrivo. Lee Sharpe came on as a substitute
and played well, putting in a couple of decent crosses.

Red Card : Paganin 63 (Bologna)
Attendance : 18,000

VICENZA 1-0 SALERNITANA
Luiso 31

Luiso headed in Ambrosetti's free kick,

Attendance : 16,000

LAZIO 2-0 FIORENTINA
Vieri 65
Mihajlovic 89

Toldo saved from Salas and the Chilean later missed an open goal from a rebound.
Mancini had a header cleared off the line. Oliveira struck the post with a shot from
a tight angle, probably the only shot Fiorentina had on goal in the match. Salas
and Vieri combined for Lazio's first, Salas with a great back heal and Vieri with a
blistering finish from the edge of the box. Salas missed another great chance.
Padalino was sent off for a stupid lunge at Salas. Mihajlovic scored from the
resulting free kick, fabulous strike.

Red Card : Padalino 88 (Fiorentina)
