Serie A Round 11

29 November 1998

Parma annihilate a surprisingly poor Milan. A predictably dramatic Rome derby
sees both teams share the spoils in a 6 goal thriller. Juve's woes continue as they
crash 3-0 away to Bologna. Inter need a late goal from Zanetti to see off
Salernitana and Nakata scores two great goals for Perugia.

BARI 0-0 FIORENTINA

Bari tested Toldo more than Fiorentina tested Mancini. Surprisingly lacklustre
performances by Batistuta and Edmundo.

Attendance : 26,000

BOLOGNA 3-0 JUVENTUS
Paramatti 3
Signori 8
Fontolan 28

Paramatti headed Bologna's first from Signori's free kick. Minutes later a
treacherous pass by Tudor was punished by Signori, a pass far to heinous to be
classified as a hospital pass. Fontolan robbed old man Ferrara, Juve's apparent
rock in defence, swapped passes with Andersson and beat Peruzzi with ease.
Juve improved, if that's the correct term, in the second half but the damage was
done.

Attendance : 36,335
Red Card(s) : Mirkovic 89 (Juventus)

INTER 2-1 SALERNITANA
Simeone 76 Di Michele 43
Zanetti 94

Di Michele stole the ball off Winter and chipped the advancing Pagliuca.
Salernitana blew several great chances before taking the lead. Zamorano had a
goal disallowed for offside. Inter had another goal disallowed before Simeone
headed them level from Baggio's corner. Zanetti won the game with a great shot
from outside the box.

Attendance : 53,000

EMPOLI 1-0 VICENZA
Carparelli 31

Zalayeta passed to Carparelli who turned in the box and fired his shot past Brivio.
Otero was sent off for elbowing Baldini.

Attendance : 14,247
Red Card(s) : Otero 53 (Vicenza)

PARMA 4-0 MILAN
Chiesa 25
Crespo 36, 60
Boghossian 92

Chiesa pounced on a rebound from Dino Baggio's shot to put Parma ahead. Crespo
poked Parma further ahead thanks to great work by Veron and Chiesa and the
same players combined for Parma's third, a header by Crespo. Maldini was
substituted at the start of the second half with a probable broken nose after
Boghossian kicked him in the face when challenging for a high ball. Fuser set-up
Boghossian for another ridiculously easy goal. Had it not been for Rossi's heroics
and, to a lesser extent, Sala, Parma could have won by at least 6-0.

Milan started brightly but after Chiesa put Parma in the lead they seemed to loose
all confidence, surprising given how well they have performed recently. I cannot
understand why Ambrosini didn't start the game given Parma's powerful midfield
Milan needed someone to do the dirty work. Albertini gave another miserable
performance as did Bierhoff who's confidence has plummeted following a barren
spell. Helveg has been a massive flop and continues to turn in Albertini levels of
totally ineffective and worthless play. Milan desperately need another proven
goalscorer as back-up for Bierhoff.

Attendance : 27,000

PERUGIA 2-0 PIACENZA
Nakata 20, 50

Nakata's first was an overhead kick, everything about the goal smacked of pure
class from Rapaic's beautiful chipped pass to Nakata's stealth like movement to
loose his markers and meet the ball. Awesome, awesome, awesome goal.
Nakata's second was a great team goal, Ze Maria picked out Rapaic with a great
long diagonal pass, he charged into the box and squared the ball for the onrushing
Nakata to strike first time into an empty net. I will be amazed if Nakata and
Rapaic are still at Perugia next season.

Attendance : 15,000
Red Card(s) : Mazzola 58

UDINESE 2-1 CAGLIARI
Bachini 32 De Patre 87
Amoroso 65

A scary moment early in the match as it seemed as if Grassadonia stopped
breathing after a collision with Locatelli. The players and medical staff were
quick to react and got him breathing again. Needless to say he was taken to
hospital. Poggi almost scored one the goals of the season, a flicked pass by Gargo
was headed on by Amoroso and Poggi nearly snapped the bar with a stunning
volley, Gargo met the rebound, it deflected off a Cagliari player and Bachini was
on hand to slam the ball in the net. Muzzi missed an open goal after running onto
a deflection off the ref. Amoroso punished horrid marking from Locatelli's free
kick to send Udinese further ahead. De Patre scored late on for Cagliari and Muzzi
was denied an equaliser by Turci.

Attendance : 18,000

VENEZIA 0-0 SAMPDORIA

Pedone blew an open goal following great work by the mysterious Tutta. Pecchia
struck the crossbar from a free kick, Pedone had a goal disallowed for offside.
Ortega was anonymous.

Attendance : 9,391
Red Card(s) : Ficini 28 (Venezia)

LAZIO 3-3 ROMA
Mancini 28, 56 Delvecchio 25
Salas 68 (Pen) Di Francesco 78
							Totti 81

Roma started brightly and it was no surprise when they took the lead through
Delvecchio, Wome putting him though with a superb defence splitting pass.
Mancini scored twice thanks to trademark Mihajlovic passes, the first a long pass
finishing off with a sweet shot and the second a nice back heel flick from a free
kick. Petruzzi was sent off for what I can only assume was his second bookable
offence, a body check on Salas. Salas won and converted a penalty. A pathetic
attempted clearance by Nedved was punished by Di Francesco and Totti rescued
Roma with a tap-in thanks to Delvecchio's persistence. Delvecchio then had a goal
disallowed for offside.

Red Card(s) : Petruzzi 64 (Roma)
