Rossettini flicked on a corner for the unmarked Ficagna volleyed in his first Serie A goal. Kharja wasted a glorious chance on the break, shooting wide from a tight angle with a team-mate unmarked in the centre of goal. Siena paid the price when Caserta, on as a 54th minute sub, headed in a Zanchetta free kick.

Seedorf got a lucky bounce off Lichtsteiner as he tried to flick a ball through to Borriello, he was first to the rebound and burst into the box before lashing a shot past Carrizo. Once again Milan's lack of pace at the back was exposed when Lazio broke from a defending a corner, Pandev threaded a pass through to Zarate and despite Kaladze's last ditch tackle he fired off a shot which beat a poorly positioned Abbiati at his near post. Pato and Kaka' went close before Zambrotta restored Milan's lead with a ridiculous shot from 35 yards. Pato made it 3-1 with a bullet header which Carrizo managed to let slip through his fingers. Kaka' tackled former team-mate Brocchi on the edge of the Lazio box, he turned, set the ball and from an almost standing position whipped a right foot shot inside Carrizo's post.
Ancelotti's job is safe for now but therein lies the problem. Over the past two seasons Milan have gone through several of these crisis's. The team have played poorly in the league and turned in a succession of bad performances. Just when the axe is about to fall Ancelotti saves his arse. Even in Europe the players look disinterested until the knockout stages when they suddenly come alive, well apart from last season.

Cavani let a Simplicio pass run across his body before hammering high into the roof of the net. Bovo scored an incredible second. Liverani touched back a free kick, the defender ran onto the ball and from about 35 yards hit an absolute crackerjack of a shot which whistled into the top left corner. Palermo cruised through the rest of the match and Milito took advantage to grab himself a consolation goal.

Despite the wretched conditions Samp continued to play on the deck and finally took a deserved lead early in the second half. Cassano played a one-two with Dossena as he ran into the box and centred for Franceschini to slide in from six yards. Pellissier pounced on a mistake in midfield and chased down a simple ball over the top, forced wide by a defender he rolled the ball across the box and Langella managed to roll goalkeeper Squizzi as he dived at his feet before passing into an empty net.

Pisano sliced a Mancini cross into his own net. Maicon scored a great second, collecting a pass from Vieira he ran at the Torino defence before letting rip with shot which crashed in off the underside of the crossbar. Mancini put Ibrahimovic clear on the break to add third. Chivu was back but got caught napping on a free kick and Abbruscato took advantage to score one of the many second half chances Torino created.

Panucci scored a rare goal with his feet when he tapped in at the back post after Reggina failed to clear a free kick. Aquilani ran unopposed from the half way line and as the Reggina defence backed off he let rip with a shot that rocketed into the top left corner. The two subs combined for Roma's third. Totti drew a great save from Campagnolo and Perrotta tapped in the rebound.
