EMPOLI 3 (Pozzi 47, Giovinco 82, Vannucchi 91 Pen)
PALERMO 1 (Cavani 39)

Cavani gave Palermo the lead against the run of play thanks to an absolute gift from Empoli goalkeeper Balli. He ran 20 yards out of his area to clear a longball only he miss-kicked and passed straight to Cavani and the Uruguayan sent a lob sailing over his head into an empty net. Pozzi equalised with a superb header. Caserta was shown a harsh second yellow card and Empoli took full advantage. Juventus owned Giovinco, one of the best young prospects in Serie A, latched onto a clearance from the edge of the box and bounced a volley into the bottom corner. He took his shirt off to celebrate and in his excitement team-mate Pozzi pulled down his shorts exposing his hairy arse before quickly pulling them back up again. Would it have killed him to wait until full time? Vannucchi made the most of Rinaudo's poorly timed challenge to win a penalty and beat Jimmy with a low shot.

Attendance : 8,000
Red Card : Caserta 74 (Palermo)
Assists : n/a, Giacomazzi, n/a, Vannucchi (won pen)

MILAN 1 (Kaka' 48 Pen)
CATANIA 1 (Martinez 25)

Ancelotti rested Jankulovski and Oddo (in the first half) ahead of Milan's Champions League match with Celtic and their replaced showed why they have no business wearing the shirt. Mascara played in Spinesi who tried to round Kalac but was blocked by the 'keeper, the bone idle Cafu didn't bother closing him down allowing him time to measure a cross to the back post and Martinez easily got above Favalli to head Catania into the lead. The ref gave Milan a get out of jail penalty when Edusei handled in the box though it was more ball to hand then hand to ball. Kaka' converted and the only interesting things of note during the rest of the match were an argument/discussion between Seedorf and Kaka' moaning to Ancelotti as the players headed into the dressing room.

Attendance : 50,000
Assists : Spinesi, n/a

NAPOLI 1 (Domizzi 52 Pen)
GENOA 2 (Cannavaro 12 og, Sculli 89)

Paolo Cannavaro turned Leon's centre into his own net. Napoli were awarded a penalty when Lavezzi was sandwiched by two players in the box. Domizzi sent Scarpi the wrong way. Scarpi made fantastic saves from Hamsik and Lavezzi at the other Napoli's goalkeeper Gianello appeared to think Sculli's header was going wide so he didn't both saving it with disastrous results - it hit the back of the net.

Attendance : 24,700
Assists : n/a, Lavezzi (won pen), Borriello

REGGINA 1 (Cozza 8)
LAZIO 1 (Kolarov 73)

Lazio's 21 year old Serbian defender Aleksander Kolarov was the key protagonist in this match. His sloppy clearance was intercepted by Vigiani and Amoruso's clever lay off was finished emphatically by Cozza. Lazio must have been distracted by their upcoming match with Real Madrid because they were bloody awful but escaped with a point thanks to a sensational goal. Kolarov let rip with an unstoppable left foot shot from 35 yards which tore into the net.

Attendance : 12,000
Red Card : Modesto 92 (Reggina)
Assists : Amoruso, Ledesma

SAMPDORIA 3 (Bellucci 4, Sammarco 57, Cassano 83)
ATALANTA 0

Bellucci expertly timed his run onto Montella's through pass as the Atalanta defence stood waiting for offside before slotting into the corner. Cassano was standing in an offside position as fellow substitute Sammarco collected from Montella, Atalanta's defence pushed up as Sammarco ran into the box and shot past Coppola. Atalanta hit the post for a second time before completing a hat-trick of failed offside traps to allow Cassano in for his first goal of the season. He stripped to his underpants at full time and was either clearly excited or had stuffed his pants with socks.

Attendance : 18,000
Assists : Montella, Montella, Volpi

UDINESE 2 (Quagliarella 78, Zapata 92)
PARMA 1 (Corradi 72)

Parma took an ill deserved lead with a superb move. Castellini made a 50 yard run down the left flank, played a one-two with Matteini and pulled the ball back for Corradi to slam a first time shot past Handanovic. Couto and Pavarini ran into each other when trying to cut out a cross and Quagliarella tapped in to finally open his account for the season. Pavarini appeared to injure himself in the collision as he was substituted three minutes later and his replacement, midget Bucci, jumped for a cross and missed allowing Zapata to volley in the winner on his 21st birthday.

Attendance : 13,000
Assists : Castellini, n/a, Di Natale

29 September 2007

ROMA 1 (Perrotta 53)
INTER 4 (Ibrahimovic 29, Crespo 57, Cruz 60, Cordoba 68)

Mancini should have given Roma the lead but shot straight at Julio Cesar after he parried a Totti free kick. Maxwell split the Roma defence with a great through ball, Doni rushed off his line and blocked from Cesar, the ball looped in the air and as Ibrahimovic's header was about to drop into an empty net Giuly punched the ball clear. IDIOT. Ibrahimovic converted the penalty. Inter lost Ibrahimovic and Dacourt to injuries in the second half and within two minutes Roma were level. Pizarro tackled Maxwell as he ran across his own box and the alert Perrotta quickly made space to shoot past Julio Cesar. Doni ruined a fantastic one touch passing move with a point blank save from Cambiasso but Crespo, on for Ibrahimovic, volleyed in the rebound. Cruz caught Doni by surprise with a speculative shot. The massed ranks of the Roma defence watched helplessly as Figo hung a cross to the back post and the unmarked Cordoba headed in Inter's fourth.

Aquilani and Perrotta are doubts for Old Trafford and while a 7-1 repeat is unlikely it's hard to see Roma winning, not with these tactics.

Attendance : 52,000
Red Card : Giuly 28 (Roma)
Assists : n/a, Pizarro, n/a, Figo, Figo

LIVORNO 0
FIORENTINA 3 (Osvaldo 45, Osvaldo 67, Rezaei 69 og)

21 year old Osvaldo, a low key summer signing from Atalanta, was given a rare start as Prandelli opted to rest Mutu for the UEFA Cup. Santana hit a deep cross from one edge of the box to the other and the Argentinean striker jumped in the air and connected with a deft right foot volley sending the ball looping over Amelia. Pazzini made the most of a stupid foul to earn Loviso a harsh red card. From the edge of the box Santana chipped the ball over Livorno captain Galante, Osvaldo bounced the ball off his chest before volleying over Amelia. Santana sealed Fiorentina's first win at Livorno in 75 years with a shot that took a wicked deflection off Rezaei.

Attendance : 9,000
Red Card : Loviso 63 (Livorno)
