Parola curled a free kick against the outside of a post, the ball ricocheted across the face of goal and Matri volleyed into an empty net. Parma were awarded a 64th minute penalty after Lopez aimed a kick at Morrone's ribs, catching the midfielder's arm as he jumped. Fortin made a fantastic save to deny Castellini. Cigarini turned onto a Morfeo pass and lobbed the ball into the box and Corradi took advantage of a botched offside trap to volley in the equaliser.

Mutu ran onto a Liverani through pass and tried to centre for Pazzini but Bellini sliced clear, sending the ball looping up into the air, as Atalanta goalkeeper Coppola jumped to punch Rivalta launched himself at the ball and headed towards his own net and in a moment of true charity Bellini sacrificed himself for his team-mate by getting the final touch. Doni equalised with a superb free kick before Vieri restored Fiorentina's lead with a bullet header from a Liverani set piece. Zampagna earned Atalanta a point with a remarkable goal. He was chasing down a long ball with a defender all over him, the ball took a wicked bounce, spinning away from the striker so he turned his back to goal, jumped in the air and hit a stunning overhead kick over Frey.

Maicon burst down the right play a one-two with tubby Brazilian, who literally fell flat on his face, Maicon intercepted as a defender tried to clear and knocked the ball to the back post for Crespo to score a first time tap-in. Ibrahimovic, a second half substitute for Crespo, released Cesar on the break, he waited for Catania goalkeeper Bizzarri to commit himself before shooting into the roof of the net.

Although Napoli dominated from the start they needed help from Sampdoria to take the lead. Castelazzi ran into the back of Bastrini when going for a long ball, leaving Zalayeta with an empty net. Napoli's second goal was a work of art. Lavezzi knocked on a deep crossfield pass to Hamsik with his shoulder, the Slovakian midfielder exchanged passes with Zalayeta and as he approached the box executed a Cryuff turn, taking him past an utterly defeated Sala, before toe poking the ball past the advancing Castelazzi.

Napoli are playing brilliant football at the moment but face a testing October with consecutive games against Inter (away), Roma (home), Juventus (home) and Fiorentina (away).

Dida failed to hold Bucchi's tame bouncing shot, Kaladze tried to whack the ball out of play but miscued leaving Maccarone to round Dida and tap into an empty net. Nesta volleyed in a late equaliser after Siena failed to clear a free kick. Frick was sent for chopping down Seedorf and deep into injury time the Dutchman almost stole the points but his free kick smashed against the underside of the crossbar.
