ATALANTA

Bresciano 18

Doni 14

Corini 45 Pen

Rivalta 31

Tissone 56

Doni headed Atalanta into the lead from Bernardini's cross. Amauri collected a
loose ball about 35 yards from goal, muscled his way down Atalanta's left and
fired a centre into the box which Bresciano met with a crisp first time strike.
Rivalta restored Atalanta's unlikely advantage when he scrambled in from a
corner. In between Corini's penalty 'Jimmy' Fontana made a string of fine saves
before Tissone caught him by surprise with a blistering shot from the edge of
the box.

Guidolin used to be criticised for being an overly defensive coach. I'm not sure
what he learned in France but he's clearly forgotten how to defend.

Attendance : 21,700
Assists : Bernardini, Amauri, Ventola, Di Michele (won pen), Doni

EMPOLI 1-2

FIORENTINA

Matteini 28

Mutu 67

Toni 77

Busce threaded a pass through to Matteini and he made Frey look like a fool with
a brilliant instant shot. Mutu equalised with a rare diving header and made the
winner with an exquisite first time volleyed pass, Toni slammed the ball into
the corner.

It's a shame Fiorentina aren't in Europe, despite his below par performances in
the World Cup I'm sure Toni would have made a mark in the competition as would
Mutu who has been off the charts this season.

Attendance : 11,700
Assists : Busce, Santana (fk), Mutu

INTER 2-1

CATANIA

Stankovic 29, 75

Mascara 16

Mascara stunned the champions with an astonishing goal. Standing wide on the
left flank he received the ball from a throw-in, as it bounced he flicked it up
in the air then struck a right foot volley sending the ball sailed through the
air before crashing down inside the top right corner of the net, similar to
Cole's goal against Sweden. While Catania's defenders were pre-occupied with
marking Adriano, Stankovic took advantage by heading in Figo's cross. Cruz, on
as a substitute for Adriano, blew a penalty after Minelli bundled him over with
a clumsy challenge but Stankovic sparred his and Inter's blushes by volleying a
loose ball through a ruck of players after Pantanelli punched out a corner.

Attendance : 45,000
Assists : Vargas (throw in), Figo, n/a

ASCOLI 0-2

LIVORNO

Danilevicius 24

Filippini 63

Filippini dribbled into the box and slipped a pass through to Danilevicius, en
mass the Ascoli defence stood still and appealed for offside as the Lithuanian
international scored. Filippini latched onto a half cleared corner to volley in
Livorno's second.

Attendance : 6,500
Red Card : Pasquale 70 (Livorno)

UDINESE

Paci 9 og

Iaquinta 12, 66

Muntari was involved in the first two goals. He scored via a deflection off Paci
and his free kick lead to the penalty. Udinese's coach was stretchered off at
half time with heart problems. Understandably his team struggled in the second
half though scored a third against the run of play. Muntari was sent off for
dissent.

Attendance : 13,000
Red Card : Muntari 74 (Udinese)
Assists : n/a, Obodo (won pen), Di Natale

SAMPDORIA 1-1

MILAN

Bonazzoli 69

Kaladze 84

Pieri swung a deep cross from the left flank into the box, Bonazzoli, standing
between Maldini and Nesta, wasn't challenged and connected with a firm header
into the corner. Brocchi hooked a half cleared corner back into the box and
Kaladze held off Del Vecchio to bundle in the equaliser.

Attendance : 28,000
Assists : Pieri, Gattuso

SIENA 3-1

MESSINA

Konko 45

Rigano 20 Pen

Frick 90

Cozza 93

Rigano converted a penalty, not sure if it was legit. Konko equalised following
a series of deflections from a free kick. 'Super Mario' Frick as the Italians
call him headed in the winner from Gastadello's brilliant cross and Cozza scored
a third from a rebound after Siena caught Messina on the break.

Attendance : 7,000
Assists : Rigano (won pen), n/a, Gastadello
