JUVENTUS 0-0

MILAN

Milan had more possession and the best (only chances). Shevchenko draw a
stunning point blank save from Buffon after good work by Pirlo and Serginho.
A poor first touch allowed Buffon to close down Inzaghi and the striker missed
an open goal, slipping as he tried to shoot following a mix-up between Buffon
and Zebina. Same story in the second half, another chance spurned because of a
poor first touch. Buffon saved from Gattuso and on the follow-up Milan had weak
penalty appeals turned down after Nesta's shot hit Emerson on the arm. Gattuso
was sent off for a second bookable offence on Nedved, who took a decent
kicking from several Milan players.

This was the most tedious match between the two clubs since that European Cup
final and I have no idea what on Earth Italian TV found to talk about and
analyse for an hour.

ASCOLI 3-2

ROMA

Quagliarella 20

Taddei 72

Paci 24

Comotto 74 (og)

Budan 42

Budan pressured De Rossi into losing a ball in his own half then passed wide to Fini,
two defenders failed to cut out his centre leaving youngster Quagliarella with a
tap-in. Foggia hit a devilish free kick to the back post and Paci profited from static
defending to head in Ascoli's second. Roma were giving the home side grief from set
pieces but they held firm and hit Roma on the break. Fini threaded a ball through to
Quagliarella who, having seen Curci stray off his line, hit a magnificent first time lob
upto Budan who headed into an empty net. Roma were creating a million chances and
Taddei eventually took one of the them, tapping in Alvarez's cross. Comotto sliced a
cross past his own 'keeper to set up a tense finish. Mancini missed an easy header
while Ascoli twice went close on the break.

Attendance : 22,000

EMPOLI 2-1

CHIEVO

Rigano 71

Brighi 82

Tavano 79

Having coped well with several first half crosses Chievo switched off late on and paid
the price. Busce, who is very good attacking full back, made both goals. Rigano barely
moved to head in his cross, Tavano controlled another on his chest before acrobatically
volleying into the bottom corner. Brighi scored with an incredible lob, no doubt helped
by the wind.

Attendance : 5,000
Assists : Busce, Busce, Semioli

LAZIO 3-1

REGGINA

Di Canio 25

Amoruso 70

Rocchi 35
Pandev 68

Lazio were playing some lovely slick football and given the ease in which they were
creating chances it was only a matter of time before they took one of them. Rocchi passed to
Zauri before heading for the box, Zauri played the ball into Liverani, Rocchi ran
onto his lay-off, held off a defender and pulled the ball back to Di Canio who scored
with an amazing first time toe poke. Pandev tried his luck from the edge of the box,
the ball took a deflection off Modesto, Di Canio plucked it out of the air and Rocchi
fired into the net. Pandev smashed in a third after Reggina failed to clear a cross.
Amoruso headed in a late consolation goal.

There were adverts for Benny Cricket on the hoardings. It's an adventure playground
for kids. Excellent.

Attendance : 10,000
Assists : Rocchi, Di Canio, Liverani, Mesto

MESSINA 2-1

LECCE

Rullo 26 (og)

Babu 42

Nanni 85

Although Rullo scored the own goal his 'keeper was entirely at fault for slapping the
ball against him when parrying a shot. Babu scored a fine equaliser. He picked up
a loose ball in midfield and went past two players before curling inside a post.
A mistake by Lecce's reserve goalkeeper Rosati (Benussi went off him a muscle injury)
cost Lecce a point. He committed the cardinal sin of forgetting to close his legs as
Nanni shot and how often has failing to close your legs gotten you into trouble?
Exactly.

PALERMO 2-0

UDINESE

Di Michele 52
Tedesco 64

Di Michele predictably scored against his former with a stunning free kick. Mutarelli
flicked on a free kick and Tedesco powered a header into the roof of the net. Agliardi
made a brilliant late save from Muntari.

Attendance : 25,792
Assists : Terlizzi (won fk), Mutarelli

PARMA 2-1

LIVORNO

Simplicio 37 (Pen)

Bakayoko 49 (Pen)

Bresciano 81

Marchionni's dive allowed Parma to take the lead from the penalty spot. Paparesta,
possibly realising he made a mistake, evened things up by giving Livorno a penalty
for 'handball'. Marchionni dropped a cross right onto the feet of the hopeless Corradi
and from the edge of the six yard box he managed to screw his show wide luckily for
him Bresciano arrived at the back post to slam the ball past Amelia.

Attendance : 11,000
