ASCOLI 1-1

MILAN

Cudini 58

Shevchenko 63

Milan wanted the match abandoned due to a rain sodden pitch but the ref decided
as the ball bounced (in some areas at least) it was ok to play on. Under these conditions
goals were only likely from set pieces or long range and that's exactly what happened.
Quagliarella headed Foggia's free kick into the ground, Dida parried but Cudini

smashed in the rebound. The ball rolled away from Gilardino as he tried to turn onto
Pirlo's pass, Shevchenko collected and 20 yards from goal sent a firm shot bouncing
into the corner. Shevchenko should have won it for Milan but blazed over following
a goalmouth scramble.

Attendance : 23,000
Assists : n/a, Gilardino

INTER 3-0

TREVISO

Adriano 32, 68, 79

Inter created about 300 chances before taking the lead on the half hour on a counter
attack. Materazzi hit a monstrous long ball upto Adriano on the right flank, he brushed
aside Lorenzi and ran into the box before beating Handanovic at his near post with a
typically brutal shot. Adriano scored his second off a Stankovic cross and ten minutes
later Pizarro laid on his hat-trick goal with a great run through the Treviso defence.

Attendance : 51,542
Assists : Materazzi, Stankovic, Pizarro

PARMA 1-1

PALERMO

Bresciano 48

Terlizzi 36

In a very entertaining first half Terlizzi volleyed the visitors in front from a Corini free
kick. Morfeo came on at the start of the second half and had an immediate impact.
With the Palermo defence holding their line and anticipating a pass through the middle
he found Pasquale unmarked wide on the left, he fired the ball into the box and
Bresciano steered a right foot volley into the corner.

Attendance : 13,000
Assists : Corini (fk), Pasquale

REGGINA 0-3

ROMA

Mancini 30

De Rossi 46

Nonda 92

Mancini headed into the net following a goalmouth scramble. De Rossi doubled the
visitors advantage at the start of the second half when he threw himself at Totti's
wayward free kick. Totti dissected the Reggina defence with a beautiful toe-poke pass,
Nonda, on as a second half sub for the misfiring Montella, turned inside a defender
before smashing the ball into the net.

Attendance : 15,000
Assists : n/a, Totti (fk), Totti

SIENA 2-1

CAGLIARI

Chiesa 45 (Pen), 58

Esposito 9

Esposito gave Cagliari a shock lead (they failed to win away from home last season)
when he ran onto Swayze's through pass, held off two defenders and fired into the
corner. Siena were presented a gift of penalty when Chiesa fell (not dived) in the box.
In the second half he tried his luck from range and Carini let the ball slip through his
hands. Esposito came closest to equalising but his overhead kick was hacked off the
line. Chiesa and Esposito would make an excellent front two for someone in need of
goals, say like Newcastle for example.

Attendance : 8,000
Assists : Suazo, Chiesa (won pen), Vergassola

LIVORNO 2-1

LECCE

C Lucarelli 11

Pinardi 39 (Pen)

Palladino 48

Fittingly last season's top scorer, Lucarelli, who bizarrely may be headed to Spurs,
scored the first goal of the season. He touched the ball away from a defender as he
turned onto Centi's pass before crashing the ball into the corner. Pinardi equalised
from the spot. Palladino restored Livorno's lead after Lucarelli had caused chaos in
the box when holding up a long ball.

Attendance : 14,000
Assists : Centi, Diamoutene (won pen), Lucarelli

FIORENTINA 2-1

SAMPDORIA

Fiore 12

Jorgensen 74 (og)

Toni 30 (Pen)

This was the pick of the week on fixtures and didn't disappoint. Toni ran onto
Jorgensen's pass and hammered a low shot towards goal, Antonioli blocked the shot
but it popped up and Fiore headed into an empty net. Toni converted a penalty after
Castellini pulled him down in the box. The Fiorentina defence ball watched Samp
launch cross after cross into the box, had their forwards not misfired they could
have easily drawn level. Frey was beaten by Diana's scorching volley via a deflection
off Jorgensen.

Attendance : 35,854
Assists : n/a, Toni (won pen), n/a
