SERIE A ROUND 28

4 April 2004

INTER 3-2 JUVENTUS
Martins 6 Kily Gonzalez 25 (og)
Vieri 45 (Pen) Di Vaio 93
Stankovic 47

Inter welcomed back serial fouler Materazzi, or Matrix as he is bizarrely known, after sitting out
a 2 month ban for punching defender Bruno Cirillo in the face. Martins was preferred to Adriano
in attack and rewarded his coach's faith with an early goal. Vieri played the ball into Stankovic
and Martins curled his centre over Buffon. Juve were level mid-way through the first half.
Trezeguet and Gamarra battled for the ball, Gamarra cleared as far as Camoranesi and Kily
Gonzalez headed his cross past Fontana. Apparently there was some controversy over Collina
awarding a penalty for a foul on Stankovic although I have no idea why as it was a clear penalty.
Vieri drilled the ball down the middle and Stankovic made it 3-1 two minutes in the second half.
Cordoba headed on a corner and Stankovic side footed past Buffon. Inter lost interest until
Montero was sent off for chopping down Martins. Martins, Materazzi and Javier Zanetti all
missed chances to add to Juve's humiliation. Collina blew for full time immediately after
Di Vaio headed in a free kick.

Attendance : 72,029
Assists : Stankovic, Stankovic (won pen), Cordoba, Birindelli (fk)
Red Card : Montero 61 (Juventus)

ANCONA 0-1 SAMPDORIA
							Bazzani 19

Bazzani sent Ancona into Serie B with a controversial goal mid-way through the first half.
He ran between two defenders and knocked the ball into the net with the top of his arm.
Completely blatant and how the linesman missed it remains a mystery. Ancona's goalkeeper
Marcon, who is Serie A quality unlike the rest of his team-mates, made a fantastic reaction
save from Bazzani and Pedone's spectacular half volley clipped the top of the crossbar.

Attendance : 10,200
Assist : Zenoni

BOLOGNA 2-2 REGGINA
Locatelli 43 Di Michele 8
Bellucci 67 Stellone 30

Di Michele looked offside when he lobbed Pagliuca. Stellone doubled the visitors
advantage when a magnificent left foot volley. Reggina should have been home and
dry but Belardi got Bologna back in the match with some sloppy handling. Belucci
hit the equaliser after good work by Signori and Tare.

Attendance : 21,000
Assists : Cozza, Di Michele, Tare

CHIEVO 0-2 PARMA
							Marchionni 31
							Gilardino 71

Gilardino split the Chievo defence with a pass inside to Marchionni and his first time shot
went in off a post. Frey maintained Parma's lead with some fine saves. Shortly after Gilardino
scored a scrappy second Baronio and Marchionni were sent off nothing really.

Attendance : 11,047
Assist : Gilardino
Red Cards : Baronio 73 (Chievo), Marchionni 73 (Parma)

EMPOLI 1-0 PERUGIA
Rocchi 64

Empoli were second best in this match but came away with the points thanks, once again,
to Rocchi. He waited for a long ball drop over his shoulder before drilling a low shot past
Kalac.

Attendance : 6,000
Assist : Belleri

LAZIO 5-2 SIENA
Cesar 4, 46, 49 Guigou 10
Fiore 29 Taddei 24
Corradi 78

Inzaghi caught Siena napping with a quickly taken free kick and Cesar blasted Lazio
into the lead. Guigou latched onto a loose ball to equalise and Taddei put Siena in front
following slack marking by Oddo. Siena's defence were no better and their failure to
deal with Lazio's set pieces restored the Biancocelesti's lead. Cesar completed what must
be an incredibly rare hat-trick for a defender when he volleyed in Fiore's cross and not
for the first time this season Siena conceded five, Corradi profiting from some truly awful
defending.

Attendance : 45,340
Assists : Inzaghi, Lazetic, Fiore

LECCE 0-3 ROMA
							Emerson 50
							Bovo 54 (og)
							Totti 94 (Pen)

Emerson headed in a corner and Bovo turned another D'Agostino set piece past his own 'keeper.
Totti smashed in a penalty after Cassano took a tumble in the box.

Attendance : 16,000
Assists : D'Agostino (ck), Cassano (won pen)

MODENA 1-1 MILAN
Amoruso 52 Tomasson 42

For the second consecutive week Inzaghi's abysmal finishing cost Milan three points against
lowly Modena. Tomasson put away a rebound after Zancope spilled Seedorf's shot. Amoruso
came off the bench to earn Modena a point. Errors by the normally dependable duo of Maldini
and Nesta allowed Kamara to drive into the box and his centre was too inviting even for a no
talent like Amoruso to miss. Ancelotti brought on Kaka' but for once Milan couldn't pull off
a strong finish.

Attendance : 19,000
Assist : Kamara

UDINESE 4-3 BRESCIA
Iaquinta 5, 30 Baggio 45 (fk)
Fava 15, 82 Di Biagio 46 (fk)
							Maniero 61

This crazy match started with Iaquinta shooting Fava's knockdown into the corner. Shortly after
Baggio had missed an open goal Fava doubled Udinese's lead when he headed in Pizarro's free
kick. Iaquinta exchanged passes with Jankulovski on the edge of the box before cutting inside
a defender and curling a low shot beyond De Sanctis. Baggio struck the inside of the post before
giving Brescia hope with a stunning free kick. Di Biagio pulled another goal back from a free kick
at the start of the second half. Both Brescia goalscorers combined for a stunning equaliser.
Baggio turned on Di Biagio's pass with a brilliant first time lobbed pass and, from an improbable
angle Maniero fired a volley into the net. Pizarro's brilliant long ball found Fava and he hit the
winner 10 minutes from time.

Attendance : 16,000
Assists : Fava, Pizarro (fk), Jankulovski, ? (won fk), (won fk) Baggio, Pizarro
