SERIE A ROUND 1

The Spectacle Returns

32 goals in 9 games and some truly exceptional goals on what is
'officially' the first day of the season.

6 NOVEMBER 2002

ATALANTA 1-3 MODENA
Dabo 89 Colucci 15
						Kamara 38
						Mauri 76

Colucci hit a superb dipping shot from 25yds to gave Modena the lead. Kamara
finished off a great move involving Colucci, Sculli and Albino with an outrageous
back heel volley. Albino blasted a volley against the underside of the crossbar
as the ball rebounded back into play, Mauri leapt up and hit an overhead kick
past Taibi. Pinardi rolled a free kick to his right and Dabo sent the ball ripping
into the top corner.

Four absolutely magnificent goals.

Attendance : 12,000
Assists : Albino, Pinardi (fk)

CHIEVO 3-0 PERUGIA
Legrottaglie 24
Della Morte 27
Corini 51 (Pen)

Legrottaglie scored with a ferocious header from Corini's wicked, wicked
corner. Della Morte added a second three minutes later following confusion
between Grosso and Milanese. Corini converted a soft penalty awarded for
a 'foul' on Cossato.

Chievo's second successive clean sheet! The flying donkeys have learned how
to defend?!?!??!

Attendance : 11,500
Assists : Corini (ck), Cossato (won pen)

EMPOLI 3-4 INTER
Di Natale 16 Crespo 5
Vannucchi 61 Zanetti J 11
Tavano 92 Recoba 50
						Adani 85

Atzoli's attempted clearance fell kindly for Crespo and he tapped in his second
league goal. Javier 'Albertini' Zanetti scored his first goal in over 2 years with
a brilliant left foot strike following a botched clearance from a corner.
Di Natale got Empoli back in the match with a fantastic goal, he ran in from
the left and drilled a low shot inside the post. Recoba put Inter 1-3 up with
a brilliant strike from 25yds. Vannucchi's stunning free kick once again got
Empoli within a goal of equalising but Adani made the points safe when he
headed in Recoba's corner. Tavano scrambled in a late consolation goal.

Attendance : 12,700
Assists : Cappellini, Zanetti, ?, Recoba (ck)

MILAN 1-0 UDINESE
Rivaldo 89

Rivaldo was credited with the winning goal though replays showed Sensini
headed the Brazilian's free kick past his own 'keeper. Inzaghi blew a penalty.
After the match Rai showed a statistic which seemed to indicate that Inzaghi
had more shots when playing without Shevchenko, at least that's what I think
it said:)

Attendance : 45,000

PARMA 4-3 BRESCIA
Ferrari 15 Appiah 13
Mutu 26 Baggio 24, 59 (pen)
Bonazzoli 52
Gilardino 74

Appiah latched onto a loose ball, turned inside Junior and hit an awesome lob
over Frey. Ferrari equalised when Miccilo dropped Mutu's free kick at his feet.
Baggio scored a rare headed goal from Seric's cross. Mutu equalised when
Miccilo once again parried a shot. Miccoli was totally at fault for Parma's third,
his indecision allowed Bonazzoli to volley home from close range. Tare won a
legit penalty! When Paolo Cannavaro grabbed a chunk of his shirt. Baggio
converted, 3-3. Guess what Miccilo did? That's right, he parried a shot straight
back to a Parma forward, as he got back on his feet Gilardino shot past him
and then he dived, what a prat.

Attendance : 15,000
Assists : Seric, Nakata, Tare (won pen)

PIACENZA 0-1 JUVENTUS
						Nedved 70

Nedved came on as a second half substitute and won the match with an
excellent first time strike from the edge of the box. Del Piero wasted two
glorious chances late on.

Attendance : 15,000
Assist : Zalayeta

REGGINA 0-3 LAZIO
						Pierini 17 (og)
						Stankovic 32
						Corradi 53

Fiore's speculative shot took a wicked deflection off Pierini giving his goalkeeper
no chance. Fiore hit a beautiful crossfield pass to Lopez he rolled the ball into
the box and Stankovic swept the ball into the corner. Corradi slid in Lazio's third
from Lopez' magnificent half volleyed cross.

Lopez is back to the from he showed for Valencia in the Champions League.
Fiore is also steadily improving game by game. Stankovic is borderline World
Class. Lazio are playing some absolutely superb football, light years ahead
of the long ball garbage that won them the title 3 years ago.

Attendance : 23,000
Assists : Lopez (x2)

ROMA 2-1 COMO
Delvecchio 18 Godeas 73
Totti 46

Delvecchio ran onto Tomas' hospital pass and poked the ball under Ferron.
Dellas should have walked for a shocking foul on Binotto which left the winger
with deep cuts and blood streaming from below the knee. Capello took Dellas
off before he could do more damage. Totti put Roma 2-0 up early in the second
half with a neat lob over Ferron from a great chipped Candela pass. Carbone
caught the pathetic clown Panucci dithering in possession on the by-line,
tackled him and centred for Godeas to stab past Pelizzoli.

Attendance : 50,000
Assists : Carbone, Candela

TORINO 2-1 BOLOGNA
Conticchio 4 Vanoil 34 (Pen)
Castellini 89

Conticchio tapped in after Lucarelli's shot came back off a post. Sommese
fouled Vanoli in the box and he converted the penalty to equalise. Castellini
hit a low volley through a ruck of players to move Toro off bottom place for
the first time this season.

Attendance : 10,000
Assists : Vanoil (won pen), Osmanovski
