SERIE A ROUND 2

CHEIVO TOP!

9 SEPTEMBER 2001

MILAN 5-2 FIORENTINA
Shevchenko 16, 52 Chiesa 18, 58
Laursen 40
Inzaghi 46
Serginho 76

Kaladze floated a cross into the box, Inzaghi back heeled to Shevchenko who
couldn't believe his luck when Pierini left him the ball, 1-0. Chiesa equalised
minutes later with an evil free kick. Milan regained the lead from a Serginho
corner - Nuno Gomes' attempted clearance fell to Laursen who adjusted
himself brilliantly to volley past Taglialatela. In first half injury time
another treacherous mistake by Pierini allowed Inzaghi to open his Milan
account.

Shevchenko volleyed his 51st league goal for Milan early in the second half,
from Sergino's corner. Chiesa scored a fantastic second. Standing about 40yds
from goal he passed to Nuno Gomes and made a run into the box. Gomes
returned the ball with a back heel, Chiesa flicked the ball up, cut inside
Laursen and shot inside the post. Shevchenko and Serginho used their illegal
pace to tear Fiorentina apart on the counter attack, Shevchenko blasted a
cross into the box but Donati volleyed against the post. Shevchenko stole the
ball of Rossitto in midfield and passed to Serginho, his first touch took him
too far into the box so he just blasted the ball at goal and Taglialatela
couldn't keep it out.

Attendance : 55,000
Assists : Inzaghi, Chiesa, Nuno Gomes, Serginho, Shevchenko

ATALANTA 0-2 JUVENTUS
							Del Piero 8
							Trezeguet 83

Del Piero ran from the half way line, played a one-two with Tacchinardi and
pushed the ball into the bottom corner. Salas brilliantly held the ball up on the
edge of the box and passed to Tacchinardi who has developed quite an
exceptional first touch - as evidenced by his beautiful cross into Trezeguet.
Trezegol finished off the move with a deft volley.

Attendance : 26,000
Assists : Tacchinardi (x2)

CHIEVO 2-0 BOLOGNA
Corradi 14
Cossato 85

Chivo mainted their 100% record(!) with another stunning victory. Corradi turned
Eriberto's centre past Pagliuca and also headed against the post. Cossato scored
with a spectacular diving header from Corini's free kick. The home side hit the
post twice in quick sucession at the end fo the match.

Chievo should provide a tough test for Juve in next week's top of the table clash.
A lot of the team's play is based on hulking, monstrous crosses from deep
positions and Juve's main weakness is in the air.

Attendance : 9,825
Assists : Eriberto, Corini

PARMA 2-2 INTER
Milosevic 27 Materazzi 10
Bonazzoli 85 Ventola 29

Materazzi headed in Seedorf's free kick. An awesome pass from Almeyda
set Di Vaio clear of Inter's defence and big Sav tapped in his centre. Kallon
chested down Gergatos' 50yd free kick, Ventola just absolutely screwed
Djetou with a brilliant flick over his head and squeezed the ball into the bottom
corner, in off the post. Toldo made a phenomenal save to deny Bonazzoli
following an awesome one touch passing move between Almeyda, Di Vaio
and Junior. Toldo then came out for Junior's corner, missed, and Bonazzoli
tapped into an empty net. Bloody great match.

Attendance : 27,000
Assists : Seedorf, Di Vaio, Kallon, Junior

PIACENZA 1-2 LECCE
Gautieri 44 Giacomazzi 67, 86

Matuzalem knocked a free kick into Gautieri who, with his back to goal, left his
marker for dead with a superb flick, headed the ball down before lifted it over
the advancing Chimenti. Super goal. Giacomazzi pounced on a deflection off
Tosto to equalise. Vugrinc and Tonetto combined to set-up Giacomazzi for
the winner.

Springsteen looks totally lost without Baggio.

Attendance : 8,000
Assists : Matuzalem, Tonetto

TORINO 1-3 BRESCIA
Lucarelli 30 Tare 9, 68
							Baggio 89 pen

Tare saw off Torino with two clinical pieces of finishing. He pulled down Diana's
cross and rifled the ball into the bottom corner. Lucarelli levelled on the half
hour with a bullet header from Maspero's corner. Seconds after Castelazzi had
denied Pingu with a spectacular save Tare restored Brescia's lead this time
with a left foot strike. Tare is now Serie A's top scorer! Baggio converted a
penalty (which he won by running into Galante). Pingu blew a penalty at the
other end, smashing the ball against the inside of the post. BTW click on
Pingu's name whenever it appears in a review (website only).

Attendance : 7,322
Assists : Diana, Maspero, A Filipini, Baggio

VENEZIA 0-1 VERONA
							Salvetti 66

Verona were rewarded for their domination mid-way through the second half.
As Venezia attempted to spring the offside trap after defending a corner
Oddo played the ball back into the box, substitute Salvetti took a touch and
shot into the bottom corner.

Attendance : 9,133
Assist : Oddo

8 SEPTEMBER 2001

ROMA 1-1 UDINESE
Tommasi 41 Muzzi 92

This was similar to Roma's last match i.e. crap. One of last season's unsung
heros, Tommasi, gave Roma the lead when he slid in at the far post to
convert Guigou's delightful cross. Turci made two excellent saves to frustrate
a lethargic Batsituta. Deep into injury time Udinese won a corner and as Muzzi
attacked the ball it took a deflection off Candela into the net.

Assist : Guigou

PERUGIA 0-0 LAZIO

Peruzzi was lucky not to be sent off for making one of his trademark idiotic
rushes off his line and flattening Vryzas. No card, no penalty. Brilliant saves
from both keepers in a match bereft of chances ensured this ended goal-less.
