SERIE A ROUND 22

11 MARCH 2001

FOUR FOR DI VAIO

PARMA 4-0 BARI
Di Vaio 14, 32, 44, 67

Mboma flicked on a throw-in to Di Vaio who volleyed past Gillet. Di Vaio
scored a brilliant second, he intercepted Osmanovski's loose pass, dribbled
by two defenders and swept the ball past Gillet. Mboma missed a penalty.
Di Vaio completed his hat-trick with a stunning volley. Amoroso knocked a
cross into the box, Montano failed to connect, as Bellavista slid in to clear
the ball, Di Vaio pulled it back, Ballavista hit thin air and Di Vaio hit the
net.

I think Di Vaio is the first player to score four goals in a Round A league
match since Dejan Savicevic hit four against Torino in the 1994-1995 season.

Attendance : 16,872
Assists : Mboma, Micoud, Amoroso

BOLOGNA 2-0 LAZIO
Nervo 19
Signori 76

Signori tormented his former team throughout this match. He forced
Marchegiani into two great saves early on. Bologna were rewarded for their
pressure with Nervo's opener. Couto was sent off for smashing an elbow in
Cipriani's face. Signori must have spotted Marchegiani off his line as he
turned and instantly shot Maresca's pass into an empty net from 30yds.
Castroman should have been sent of for a criminal challenge on Signori. Other
than a save from a Mihajlovic free kick Pagliuca was rarely troubled.

Attendance : 29,000
Red Card : Couto 44
Assists : Maresca (x2)

INTER 2-0 VERONA
Vieri 45 (Pen)
Sukur 70

Sukur back heeled Zanetti's cross, Vieri hit the ball first and it rebounded
off a post. Vieri returned the favour with a great cross but Sukur lifted the
ball over the bar. Bonazzoli wasted two good chances for Verona. Vieri threw
himself over Ferron to win a penalty which he converted. Mazzola was sent
off bringing down Sukur as he ran through on goal. Inter had legitimate
claims for a penalty turned down when Ferron tripped Ferrante. Ferron gifted
Sukur a goal when he dropped an easy catch. Ferron almost tipped a Di Biagio
drive into his own net.

Attendance : 56,000
Red Card : Mazzola 54 (Verona)
Assist : Vieri

JUVENTUS 1-0 REGGINA
Tudor 31

Tudor headed in Zidane's free kick. Zidane had two decent efforts from outside
the box. Marrazina went close for Reggina when he headed against the
crossbar.

Attendance : 30,000
Assist : Zidane

LECCE 2-1 UDINESE
Ingesson 44 Sosa 40
Lucarelli 81 (Pen)

Two headed goals in a four minute spell, both virtually identical. Minutes
before Lecce's equaliser Sosa blew a great chance to further increase his
teams lead. Diaz wasted another chance when brilliantly put through by Sosa.
Tonetto won a penalty by using Jorgensen's shirt as leverage. Lucarelli
whacked the ball left of centre. Chimenti made a fantastic to save to deny
Margiotta and Udinese what would have been a well deserved point.

Attendance : 13,000
Assists : Diaz, Viali, Tonetto

PERUGIA 2-2 FIORENTINA
Di Loreto 23 Chiesa 56
Liverani 45 Lassissi 66

'The Italian Beckham' Liverani picked out Di Loreto for the opener. Vanoli
carried the ball out of defence, Saudati flattened him with a wild tackle, as
everyone waited for the ref to blow for a foul Liverani picked up the ball
and drilled a shot under Pierini's legs and inside the post. Early in the
second half a rarity, a dangerous Di Livio cross which Chiesa expertly
volleyed past Mazzantini. Toldo made a fantastic save from Saudati, Vryzas
headed the rebound over the bar. Lassissi headed in the equaliser. Toldo
saved Saudati's spot kick to give new coach Roberto 'Henry' Mancini a point.

Attendance : 12,000
Assists : Liverani, Di Livio, Pierini

ROMA 3-1 BRESCIA
Assuncao 21 Yllana 30
Montella 69, 89

Assuncao gave Roma the lead with an awesome free kick. Yllana headed Brescia
level. Montella almost decapitated Bonera when attempting an overhead kick,
the ball fell to Delvecchio but he shot straight at Castelazzi. He then tried to
back heel Cafu's cross but got the ball caught in his feet. Delvecchio screwed
up again when challenging for a long ball but Montella arrived to put Roma
back in front. Delvecchio saved the best for last. Totti stuck a ball over
the top, he went past the 'keeper and with an open goal at his mercy
pathetically lost his balance and stumbled out of touch. Montella killed off
Brescia with a blistering strike from a tight angle following good work by
Totti and Emerson.

With this performance alone Delvecchio wins the Donkey of the Season award.

Assist : Totti, Bachini, Emerson
Attendance : 6,000
Red Card : Petruzzi 72 (Brescia)

10 MARCH 2001

VICENZA 2-0 NAPOLI
Toni 55
Firmani 92

Moriero flashed a volley wide. Yeda hammered a shot against a post. Toni
arrived unmarked in the box to convert Sommese's cross. Firmani profited
from the same charitable defending to score a late second. This was a 'six
pointer'. Vicenza now move out of the bottom four for the first time in
months while Napoli slip back into the relegation zone.

Attendance : 15,000
Assists : Sommese, Esposito

ATALANTA 1-1 MILAN
Ganz 63 Lorenzi 24 (og)

Pelizzoli made a brilliant save from Bierhoff's header, the striker had
earlier missed a 100% with his feet. Lorenzi headed past his own 'keeper
while trying to cut out a cross. Rossi, in goal for the injured Abbiati, made
stunning saves from Christian Zenoni and Donati. Christian Zenoni also
struck a post. A defensive mistake gave Bierhoff an open goal but he shot
wide. Bellini made a penetrating run down the left wing, he skipped Chamot's
challenge only for Roque Junior to nail him but the ball bounced up into
the box and former Milan striker Ganz went airborne to smash an overhead kick
past Rossi. Fabulous goal. Chamot's insane back pass gave Ventola a clear run
on goal but Rossi made another fantastic save. Shevchenko missed a great
chance late on, playing alongside Bierhoff must be catching. Morfeo turned
peacemaker at the end of the match as Maldini an Boban got into a heated
argument. Nice to see Maldini finally show some emotion.

Attendance : 20,000
