SERIE A ROUND 16

LAZIO HAMMER FIORENTINA

Lazio win their third successive match with a phenomenal display of counter
attacking. The top two, Roma and Juventus, also have easy victories. Atalanta
and their 20 year old goalkeeper stun Udinese with four first half goals.

28 JANUARY 2001

UDINESE 2-4 ATALANTA
Sottil 35 Ventola 2, 21
Gargo 76 Morfeo 4, 43

Berretta slipped when attempting to shoot, the ball fell to Ventola and for
once he didn't miss an open goal. Two minutes later Atalanta doubled their
lead. Donati sent the ball into the box, Turci came out, got nowhere and
Morfeo picked his spot. Pellizoli made two fine saves to keep out Sosa.
Atalanta went 0-3 up on the counter attack, Morfeo splitting the defence
with a perfect through pass and Ventola with an uncharacteristic cool finish.
Sosa finally beat Pellizoli with a powerful header. Pellizoli didn't crack
though and continued his heroics, saving powerful strikes from Sottil
and Gargo before Atalanta cruelly added a fourth again on the break, Morfeo
volleying in Damiano Zenoni's cross. Gargo pulled back another goal but
Pellizoli kept Udinese at bay.

A World Class performance from the 20 year old phenom Pelizzoli. Just to
show how ridiculous Round A match ratings are he was awarded a 7 by Rai,
Morfeo got 7.5. Pelizzoli deserved 9.

Assists : Donati, Morfeo, D Zenoni, Fiore (x2)

BRESCIA 1-1 MILAN
Hubner 48 Bierhoff 26

Albertini picked out Shevchenko with a brilliant cross, he headed the ball
down and Bierhoff converted at the far post. Castelazzi made a fantastic
point blank save from Shevchenko.

A treacherous mistake by Maldini early in the second half allowed Hubner in
for the equaliser. Coco cut out a cross with a back heel to Maldini, Maldini
then inexplicably hit a first time ball over the top towards his own goal,
Hubner ran through and beat Abbiati from a tight angle. Bad positioning by
Abbiati, terrible play by Maldini. Jose Mari did his usual miss an open goal
trick.

Attendance : 25,000
Assist : Shevchenko

FIORENTINA 1-4 LAZIO
Chiesa 81 (Pen) Nedved 33
							Crespo 57, 73
							Salas 85

Fiorentina dominated possession early on but fell behind to an awesome
right footed volley by Nedved. Salas, who made the first goal, gave Crespo
another perfect cross but he headed over. Another gift, donkey Stankovic sent
clean through by Poborsky but shot horribly wide. Fiorentina failed to
capitalise and Lazio made sure third time round, Crespo with a low shot
inside the post from Nedved's pass. Nuno Gomes headed against the post.
Crespo added a superb second, he ran onto Nedved's through pass, held off
several challenges from two players before again finding the inside of the
post. Crespo wasted two 100% chances to claim a hat-trick. Chiesa won and
converted a penalty. Salas deservedly got on the score sheet with a powerful
strike across goal.

Lazio's counter-attacking was World Class and defensively they were rock
solid. Nice to see Nedved back to his very best.

Attendance : 35,000
Assists : Salas, Nedved, Crespo, Chiesa

INTER 1-0 BARI
Vieri 39

Neqrouz was doing his best to give Inter a penalty as he blatantly pulled
Vieri's shirt in the box, Vieri stayed on his feet and hit the post for the
100th time in the past five games. An uncustomary mistake by Blanc gifted
Bari an open goal but Mazzarelli hit the crossbar. Following another horrible
miss Vieri scored the winner. Recoba's cross took a wicked deflected off
Serena and Vieri poked in at the far post. Both teams hit the woodwork from
free kicks. Gillet made a fantastic save from a Di Biagio special.

Inter finally overcome their Bari jinx though their arch nemesis, Masinga,
was on International duty!

Attendance : 58,000
Assist : Serena

JUVENTUS 4-0 VICENZA
Inzaghi 8, 42, 69
Davids 22

Van der Sar launched a ball upfield, Cardone and Dal Canto fell over while
attempting to clear allowing Inzaghi to round the 'keeper and tap into an
empty net. Montero almost deflected Zauli's shot past his own 'keeper. That
was as close as Vicenza got. Another long ball, another Juve goal, Montero
launched one to Inzaghi he centred and Davids arrived to score his first of
the season. Vicenza attempted to play offside unfortunately for them Tomas
made the last pass to Inzaghi, Sterchele flew out his box, Inzaghi rounded
him and again tapped into an empty net. Davids and Zidane combined to give
Inzaghi his hat-trick.

Attendance : 30,000
Assists : Inzaghi, Zidane

ROMA 3-0 NAPOLI
Delvecchio 18
Totti 39
Batistuta 84

Mondini (GK) came on for Mancini who looked to have pulled a hamstring. He
was hopelessly out of position on a cross allowing Delvecchio to head Roma
into the lead. Totti punished slack defending in the box to add a second.
Emerson made his long awaited debut mid-way through the second half and
set-up Totti for what should have been Roma's third. Batistuta got it late
on, heading in Cafu's cross.

Attendance : 61,000
Assists : Cafu (x2)

VERONA 0-2 PARMA
							Di Vaio 37, 58

Buffon made a good save from Bonazzoli (on loan from Parma). Di Vaio
knocked in a loose ball after Doardo parried Torrisi's header and a terrible
mistake by Seric gave him a second. Verona won a penalty at the second time
of trying but Mutu shot wide.

Attendance : 16,712

27 JANUARY 2001

LECCE 0-0 BOLOGNA

Lucarelli head Lecce's best chance but headed Tonetto's cross over the bar.
Bologna's best chance also came from a header, Cruz denied by a great save
from Chimenti.

REGGINA 0-2 PERUGIA
							Materazzi 20 (Pen)
							Liverani 38

Vryzas went up for a header, fell down, penalty. Materazzi sent Taibi the
wrong way. Cozza and Marrazina blew great chances. Liverani, sorely missed
last week against Juve, put Reggina out of their misery with a great free
kick. They had enough chances to win of course but Mazzantini was in goal
so you can guess what happened next. Saves from Morabito and a one handed
special on Bogdani's volley. Stovini was sent off for checking Liverani.

Red Card : Stovini 74 (Reggina)
Assists : Vryzas, ?
